Funk Legend George Clinton Accuses Black Eyed Peas Of Stealing Song

Attorneys for Funk legend George Clinton has filed a multi-million dollar copyright infringement lawsuit over a remix group’s 2003 hit song “Shut Up.” Lawyers for Clinton filed the lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Central District of California, on December 10th. The lawsuit accuses BEP stole portions of Clinton’s classic #1 funk single “(Not Just) Knee Deep” and incorporated into the “Shut Up” remix without permission. Clinton, who currently resides in Florida, owns the copyrights to the song in question, which is taken from his 1979 album Uncle Jam Wants You by Funkadelic. The lawsuit claims BEP cashed in on his hard work, by releasing the remixes on vinyl, in digital formats and on DVD’s (Live From Sydney to Vegas). Additionally, “Shut Up” was released on the group’s#### album Elephunk, which has sold over 8.5 million copies worldwide, according to the complaint. To make matters worse, in 2009, producers associated with BEP contacted Clinton about licensing a sample of “(Not Just) Knee Deep,” before Clinton was aware the group had already sampled the song. In the ensuing battle to clear the sample, someone is accused of actually forging George Clinton’s signature. The funk legend maintains he did not sign any contracts, nor did he agree to any terms or receive compensation. Additionally, the group went ahead and released the remix on the deluxe version of The E.N.D. without the R&B pioneer’s consent. “(Not Just) Knee Deep” has been legally sampled by a variety of Hip-Hop artists throughout the years. Group’s like De La Soul, ABove The Law, MC Hammer, Snoop Dogg, Tupac and The Geto Boys have incorporated the song into their tracks.

Lil Wayne’s Name Comes Up In $250 Million Heroin Bust

Rapper Lil Wayne cannot do any drugs or liquor as part of the terms of his three-year probation for drug and gun possession in Arizona, but that has not deterred drug dealers from naming deadly narcotics after him.The superstar rapper’s name was associated with a $250 million drug bust that yielded 500 bricks of heroin. Newark Police offers found the bricks of the drug hidden in a side panel of an SUV with the bricks and the packets of the drug packaged for sale under the name “Lil Wayne.” A police dog was called in to search the SUV and the dog helped find a sophisticated special compartment shut by a latch with a special motor, custom designed to deal the drugs. “The driver had no driver’s license. We at that point we decided to call for a narcotics dog. conducted a sniff test and sure enough right away, on the exterior of the vehicle, he had a positive reaction. This might pose a danger to the distributor himself, depending on the level he’s on. Whether he’s a mid level or lower level or he’s actually the main guy, somebody’s losing money right now.”

Update: Ja Rule Gets Two Years In Jail Over Gun Charge

(AllHipHop News) Ja Rule’s pleaded guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon over a July 2007 gun possession charge in Manhattan, New York and will serve two years in prison when he is sentenced in February.  The rapper reached the plea deal today (December 13th) in Manhattan State Supreme Court, over a July 23rd, 2007 incident, after police stopped his $250,000 Maybach for speeding after a concert at the Beacon Theater. Police also found that the registration on the pricey vehicle was suspended and had no insurance.According to the Associated Press, the smell of marijuana gave police a reason to search the vehicle. Ja Rule was arrested when a.40 caliber semiautomatic handgun in the rear driver’s side door was found. Ja Rule faced up to four years in prison under New York’s tough anti-gun laws, which have sidelined other stars, like Lil Wayne, rapper Prodigy and NFL star Plaxico Burress. Lil Wayne was recently released from Rikers Island after serving 8 months in prison for being arrested for gun possession on the exact same night as Ja Rule. NFL star Plaxico Burress received two years for sneaking a gun into a nightclub which accidentally went off and wounded him in the leg in 2009.

AllHipHop in Japan PT 1: The Red Bull BC ONE Competition

It has been well documented that worldwide hip-hop has made its leaps and bounds to reach all areas of the globe.  Seen not only in emceeing, DJing, graffiti and break-dancing, but, in the cultural habits of clothing and its use in language, Hip-Hop has become a unwavering part of society.  Built on what started in the streets of the Bronx in New York and Watts in Los Angeles, to what has long thrived in the streets Paris, Tokyo and London, Hip-Hop is here to stay.

In the first part of our series to bring you hip-hop coverage from across the globe, AllHipHop traveled to Tokyo, Japan to cover the Red Bull BC One competition, a break-dancing competition, where sixteen B-Boys from around the world rocked Yoyogi Stadium along side Big Daddy Kane and Rahzel.   Set in the heart of Tokyo, the dancers provided a breathtaking show in which the Brazilian power mover Neguin from the Tsunami All Stars crew was ultimately deemed ‘The One’ – Red Bull BC One 2010 Champion.

The B-Boys had to convince five judges– among them two-time champion Lilou, the legendary Ken Swift, and Red Bull BC One veteran Roxrite. The dancers brought their A-game and many battles were very tight making it a tough night on the judges who had the arduous task of deciphering the complexities of each performance. After battles in Biel, Berlin, Sao Paulo, Capetown, Paris and New York, the level of the competition reached an all-time high in this seventh edition in Tokyo. A round stage formed the center of the pulsating grandstand. In the final 1-on-1 battle of the night, it was Brazil’’s Neguin vs. “The Flying Dutchman” Just Do It. Both had wowed the crowd and won over the judges with the intensity and style they displayed throughout the night’s bracketed battles. In that final round, Neguin’’s advanced technicality and awe-inspiring performance

One champion. The stage was filled with talented dancers from around the world and every battle had its own storyline and dramatic peaks. For the Americans, it was a little bittersweet. “I didn’’t expect to go out in the first round,” Thesis said. “1-on-1 battles are a lot harder. It’s a lot more about strategy. You’re not gonna dance how you want to dance all the time.” New York b-boy Gravity of the Dynamic Rockers was overcome by the Venezuelan– Lil G after a fierce battle in the first round. The third American, Luigi, battled his way to the semi-finals where he was matched against Just Do It from The Netherlands. It was arguably one of the tightest battles of the night. In the end Luigi had to give way, without any hard feelings saying “I am super happy to be here. The crowd was great!”

Japan has a lively Hip Hop scene with its epicenter in the 30-million-people-capital of Tokyo. Between temples and gambling halls skyscrapers and karaoke bars, geishas and sumo wrestlers, this year’s Red Bull BC One ranks as an event unmatched. As crew competitions have grown more popular over the last decade, this competition goes back to the roots of 1-on-1 battles showcasing individual performance.Red Bull BC One Tokyo was a historical happening for hip hop culture, as it combined its foundational figures and roots with the some of hottest acts of today.

In 1983, director Charlie Ahearn brought the film and cast of Wild Style to Japan which marked the birth of the Japanese Hip Hop scene. Last night, Ahern returned to Tokyo to attend Red Bull BC One and witness the evolution of the scene. Ken Swift, a teenager back then and a member of the world famous Rock Steady Crew had starred in Wild Style and last night, sat on the Red Bull BC One judging panel.

For Ken Swift, this year’s winner is justified. He said ““Neguin is an amazing entertainer and very consistent.”” Neguin himself thinks that versatility and authenticity have helped him win the competition. The sources of his inspiration he claims to be endless. “Everything I see, I can dance. If I see a bird flying I can dance it too.” Human Beatbox – Rahzel served as emcee for the night, guiding the crowd through an audio/visual showcase. More than 3.000 people got up from their seats when New Yorker Rap-legend Big Daddy Kane started rhyming, performing “”Ain’t No Half Steppin”’” and “”Set it Off”,”  while Japanese DJ Mar cut the beats all night. The vibe reached a climax as all 16 competing B-Boys entered the stage to pay their respects to their audience with a freestyle session.

“The Japanese fans were inspiring,” Neguin emphasized after his victory. Holding his trophy and hugging his final opponent, Neguin shouted ““We are all winners. We dance for life!””

DIPSET AND DR. DRE IN THE STUDIO

I really wonder what makes Dr. Dre tick. There are a number of rappers that he doesn’t work with like his homey Dr. Dre and others that kinda sit on the shelf. And then there are others that he’s apparently excited to work with. From sources that I am close with, Dre. is really into working with the Diplomats and the two forces are actively working on the big time reunion album. Very strange to me, but I think its a good think for the game. I guess we’ll see what it do when it does what its going to be. LOL!

RIHANNA IS SINGLE AGAIN!

Looks like that stuff about Matt Kemp hollering at another girl[s] is on the up and up. It would seem that RiRi is back on the market again. That scene with the girls was the straw that broke the camels humpback. They sare saying old boy was a bit pissy that she may have had a thing with Drake. Who cares. As long as Ri Ri is single, nothing else matters. Not that any of us has a shot.

CHER TURNS HER SWAG ON!

Heck, I thought when they talked about Cher and Eminem, I thought they were talking about the Cher from Sonny and Cher. But, it wasn’t. It is a new chick that is only 16. Here she is doing Soulja Boy’s “Turn My Swag On.”

Good luck to her, but I think they should have let her do a song with the old Cher. LOL!

MILEY CYRUS MEETS NICKI MINAJ…SORTA

Miley Cyrus is quickly turning into the new teen-turned-tragedy. The chick has already been naked in the past couple of weeks and now she’s getting high. In a video that has been getting squashed all over the net shows Miley rapping to Nicki Minaj’s verse on “Bottoms Up.” This is how she celebrated turning 18, from what I have been seeing. But, here is the catch – Miley wasn’t doing anything illegal. Apparently, she had a bong that was full of a natural herb called salvia which is totally legal. Salvia makes people have psychedelic episodes though. One of Miley’s friends either got ganked or totally sold the film. WELL, that has nothing to do with Nicki Minaj, but when I started writing this, I thought the video would be available.

Guess what I found?

I also realized this is a couple days old.

Arrest Warrant Issued For Yo Gotti Over Violent Shooting

(AllHipHop News) Memphis police have already arrested three people in connection with a Thanksgiving weekend shooting, but are now seeking popular rapper Yo Gotti in connection with a violent altercation. According to WREG Channel 3, Yo Gotti and an associate, OG Boo Dirty, were involved in a verbal altercation on November 29th when a third man intervened. OG Boo Dirty allegedly struck the man, resulting in a shooting that ended with six people being shot and wounded, including an off-duty security guard who was standing near the scene of the fight. The rapper has not surrendered to police as of press time, because he is out of town traveling on business. “He just wanted his fans and the public to know that…he doesn’t condone that type of behavior, and that again, he plans to deal with the charges that have been filed against him,” Yo Gotti’s lawyer Art Horne said. “Once he comes back and deals with the allegations, I think his name will be cleared.”Eleven warrants have been issued in connection with the shooting, with three of the men involved in custody on charges of aggravated riot.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Wiz Khalifa Dating Chris Brown’s EX? Eminem & Cher? Nicki Celebrates Birfday!

EMINEM AND CHER – THE DUET?

I think this rumor will be old before I even get to post it. But, from what I have gathered, Cher is performing on the finale of X-Factor and they have some duets lined up wit her. I know for a fact, she rocked with Will. I. Am of the BEP’s. But they are also so stating over there in the UK that Eminem is also going to be doing a duet with Cher. The mere idea has given everybody the willies. But Simon Cowell is a persuasive man. XFactor insiders say the show needs this big boom. I don’t think they got it, but I hope they do.  Rumor has it, Will. I. Am wore high heels. I gotta see this madness to believe it.

WIZ KHALIFA AND NATALIE NUNN

I don’t know who this girl is, but apparently she was on a show called “Girls Behaving Badly” and dated Chris Brown at some point. Now she’s on to the next one in Wiz Khalifa.

SIGNS THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END

According to Fox, there is a sign that cannot be denied. A nun stole close to a million from a NYC college and got caught from the feds. Peep the report.

(FOX)–A Catholic nun broke one of the Ten Commandments by embezzling $850,000 from a suburban New York City college and gambling it away in Atlantic City, according to federal prosecutors.

As chief financial officer at Iona College in New Rochelle, N.Y. from 1999 to 2009, Sister Marie Thornton, 62, bet her six-figure income and school money away during frequent trips to Atlantic City, federal prosecutors said.

Thornton was arrested Thursday and pleaded not guilty in federal court in Manhattan. She was released without posting bail.

Sources confirmed to MyFoxNY that a former Iona basketball coach has said that Sister Marie definitely had a gambling problem.

Students, who pay $28,000 a year for tuition, shook their heads at the thought of a nun violating one of the holy Ten Commandments.

The indictment charges she turned in fake bills and used her college credit card to steal money.

DJ Premier: New Gang Starr Album And DVD In The Works

 (AllHipHop News)

DJ Premier is putting together a new Gang Starr album with his late rap partner Keith “Guru” Elam.

The celebrated DJ said that he’s assembled music and Guru verses from all over the world and it enabled the posthumous album to be made.

“There are guys in Europe who say that they have seven or eight,” he told XXLmag.com. “It’s songs he did with them and they never finished it and they said I can have them. They reached out and were like, As long as you’re doing it. You can have the vocals. They are all brand new, from like a year and a half ago. I listened to them and I’ll make them s#### sound like we were together. Well, we will be together because spiritually, he’s with me for the rest of my life.”

Preemo also said there will be a DVD with exclusive archival footage of Gang Starr, a group that got its start in the 80’s.

“I have footage from the very first show we ever performed,” he revealed. “It was Ice-T, Queen Latifah and Monie Love. She was in the bathroom nervous trying to remember her rhymes for ‘Ladies First.’ Special Ed told her it would be ok and then Monie Love killed it. It was us, Tribe, Latifah and then Ice-T. Ice T introduced me to a DAT machine. I was like, ‘Wow.’ This was 1989. I have that tape.”

“I’m putting together a Gang Starr DVD because I’ve been filming since 1989,” he continued. “I did all the filming until 1993. Then I started bringing guys with me. I have hundreds and hundreds of tapes of me and Guru arguing in the airport. Him and Shug fighting. Guru tried fighting everyone. Now, you look at it and it’s like, Damn, I miss that.”

Amir Khan: Crossover Ambition

Who doesn’t want to be a superstar? It’s a dream that’s in every boxer’s mind, a plateau that most will never get close to. 24 year old Amir Khan is one of the select few who may just get there. Trained by Freddie Roach, a champion in a loaded division, and a fighter who can call Manny Pacquiao a regular sparring partner, Khan has used 2010 as an announcement of his intent to conquer America. Part one was successful, when he shut the mouth of Paulie Malignaggi this past May.

Part two comes this Saturday (December 11), when Khan defends his WBA junior welterweight title against dangerous slugger Marcos Maidana. Khan is without question the better technical fighter. But so was Victor Ortiz, who Maidana beat down and made quit. And in Khan’s case, he was also the “better fighter” when he suffered his only defeat, a surprise 2008 1st round KO to another limited power-puncher in Breidis Prescott.

Thus, December 11 offers many possibilities to Amir Khan. One is gaining the respect or dismissal of American fight fans. Another is dispelling or verifying the question of whether he has a suspect chin. Is Amir Khan one of the future torch-bearers for boxing?

AllHipHop.com: How has the fan reception been since you’ve arrived in Las Vegas?

Amir Khan: It’s really good, everywhere we went people are talking about the fight. On the Strip you’re seeing pictures of yourself up in the lights. The boxing hotel (Mandalay Bay) where the fight’s going to be should have a huge turn out there. It’s big enough for the biggest young fighter from Britain to come and defend the title in Las Vegas. Everyone has been doing a great job.

AllHipHop.com: From your viewpoint, what is the biggest difference you see between UK and U.S. fight fans?

Khan: It’s different in the UK because you have non-boxing fans who know who you are. When people come to UK fights, they might not care if you win or lose. They just want to see you perform and others in the event. Here the boxing fans are really passionate and want to see a good night of boxing. That’s why this fight is going to be so good, because he (Maidana) is coming to win, and I have a good style myself.

AllHipHop.com: The big debate going into this fight is whether your chin can hold up to Maidana’s power. But considering you’re a solid puncher, do you have your own questions about Maidana’s ability to take your punch?

Khan: Exactly. A lot of people talk about his style, but I don’t think he’ll be able to take my power. We’re going to let him go into this fight thinking it’s going to be easy. When he gets caught and hit, he’s going to think twice about his tactics. It’s going to break him down. We’re going to beat this guy, and any mistakes we’re going to capitalize on. One thing they’re forgetting is the power we have.

AllHipHop.com: Freddie Roach has already talked about you facing Floyd Mayweather at 147 pounds. Does that mean your days at junior welterweight are numbered?

Khan: Well I want to unify this division. I already have one world title, and I want to another couple [belts]. The way my body’s feeling, I’m sure I’ll move to 147 in the next 12 months. I’ll be nice and strong, and fit in the division quite well.

AllHipHop.com: To unify, the winner of Devon Alexander vs. Timothy Bradley will be your target. Who do you favor in that fight and why?

Khan: I think Bradley is going to win with experience. I think he’s the better boxer and fighter. I think Devon is going to get pushed into the deep end. When Bradley does that, I think Devon will have problems.

AllHipHop.com: Style-wise, do you think Bradley would be the tougher assignment for you?

Khan: I think both of them are even to be honest with you. I’ll just fight both of them after this fight.

AllHipHop.com: A lot of people don’t come back from a devastating loss like you experienced with Breidis Prescott. How were you able to not let that completely derail your career?

Khan: It’s up to the individual fighter. I knew I made a mistake, and it made me a better and more focused fighter. It was a blessing in disguise. I think if I won, I wouldn’t be in this position. It showed me what not do and that’s how I bounced back stronger.

AllHipHop.com: In your last fight, Paulie Malignaggi used a lot of trash talk, even referring to you as a “con” that was trying to get over on the fans. Were you surprised that he gained so much respect for you after the fight?

Khan: I’m sure this fight will be the same thing. With my style, it changes people’s views. The way Malignaggi got beaten, it made him realize that look, he didn’t just get beat, he got gutted.

AllHipHop.com: In early 2009 there was talk about you facing Ricky Hatton. That would have been a potential passing of the torch match. How close was it to happening?

Khan: The fight could happen in the future. It’s a fight people wanted to see. One, me and Ricky are very good friends. And two it’s a big UK fight, with two British champions. He was never on my radar because we are such good friends. But I know if the fight ever did happen, I know it would be the biggest fight in Britain for a long, long time. We’ll go with the flow. He’s retired now, but in boxing anything can happen. If it makes sense financially, I’m sure we’ll both take it.

AllHipHop.com: You are a prizefighter, so business cannot be neglected. But for you what is more important, your lasting legacy as a boxer, or how much money you can make in your career?

Khan: Legacy, that’s what the people look at more, how you come across. How you proved people wrong and the big fights. The legacy I want, the money comes with that. It’ll stand out a lot more.

AllHipHop.com: You know the perception of Muslims and Islam here in the West. Do you feel pressure to be an ambassador now that you’re starting to get crossover attention?

Khan: Not at all. I’m happy to be ambassador, and I want to show young Muslims what’s possible when they see what Amir Khan’s doing. I respect my religion, and my religion keeps me grounded. It keeps me humble.

AllHipHop.com: What are the biggest benefits you’ve had from sparring regularly with Manny Pacquiao?

Khan: Manny is a great fighter. He’s got speed, power, and training with Freddie Roach, he’s got everything a fighter wants to be. So if you can do well against Pacquiao, you’ll go into fights against someone like Marcos Maidana, it gives you a confidence boost because he’s not on the same level as Manny. It’s a greater push towards the fight.

AllHipHop.com: You’re still very young in your career, but who would you cite as your toughest fight to date?

Khan: I think my toughest fight was Andriy Kotelnik, the fighter who beat Marcos Maidana. I hit him with all the big shots; he took them, and kept coming forward. It shows how good he is recently when he had a controversial loss to Devon Alexander. I thought he beat Devon Alexander. He never stopped [with me], he was like a machine.

AllHipHop.com: Thanks for making time and best of luck this Saturday.

Khan: Thank you very much buddy and take care.
