(AllHipHop News) The ailing real estate economy has caught up to R&B singer Alicia Keys and her husband Swizz Beatz, who are attempting to sell Keys’ Syosset, New York mansion. Keys, who put the 2.2. acre, six-bedroom mansion on the market for $3.5 million in June, has been forced to chop down the selling price to $2.99 million after just six months. The singer is attempting to sell the gated mansion, which comes with an elegant in-ground pool, marble floors, spiral staircases, for the new $14 million Manhattan penthouse she shares with her superstar producer/husband, Swizz Beatz.A number of other famous entertainers have been impacted by the real estate market. In August, Hip-Hop mogul Russell Simmons slashed the price of his Saddlebrook, New Jersey mansion from $23 million to $13 million. In February, rapper Eve, put her Hollywood Hills mansion up for sale, while Kanye West recently put his Hollywood Hills, California mansion on the market for $3.99 million. In July, Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz reportedly purchased Lenny Kravitz’ former Manhattan penthouse for $14 million, over $5 million less than the original asking price of $19.5 million dollars.

(AllHipHop News) Although Rick Ross received no Grammy nominations, the Miami rapper holds no ill will towards the RIAA.
The rapper, whose Teflon Don hit gold sales, told MTV News that he’s pleased with the accomplishments this year and congratulated his peers.
“Everybody that was nominated this year for the Grammys, I congratulate them, and I feel like everyone deserve it,” Ross said. “As far as me, I feel like it’s just something else for me to work towards, you know, if that’s something that I’m really, really trying to achieve.”
He continued, “Other than that, I had a wonderful year and I really couldn’t ask for no more.”
Ross hit the streets in a major way with big records like “B.M.F.” and “MC Hammer” along with commercial songs such as “Aston Martin Music.” He’s also received numerous other artistic accolades.
1982 (Statik Selektah and Termanology): FreEPRating: 7.5 / 10
After originally only being available after proof of purchase, Statik Selektah and Termanology have decided to let loose the 1982 Free EP for Hip-Hop fans to enjoy. Featuring nine original tracks, this additional project feels just as strong as the original 1982 album, with strong verses from Termanology and high-quality features from Mac Miller, Reks, Chace Infinite, and more. Combined together with solid production from Statik Selektah and original concepts for most of the tracks, theres nothing negative to say about this offering to the fans, and inversely it should garner even more interest for their underrated collaboration thats out now.
Jay Rock: Black FridayRating: 7/10
Jay Rock released his newest offering, Black Friday, on its corresponding date after Thanksgiving. Excluding the semi-original title, the mixtape redeems itself as Jay Rock handles each track relatively well lyrically, regardless of whether or not his content is original. The production matches his aggressive flow throughout the project, and the features from Kendrick Lamar, Trae Tha Truth, and Ab-Soul (among others) all help to round out Black Friday. Even though towards the middle of the tape the content begins to thin, Jay Rock redeems himself towards the close of the project, most notably on the Kush freestyle thats thrown on at the end as a bonus.
The Interlude LP – Rating: 8/10
Lastly, but definitely not the least, the Kid Daytona has released his LRG-sponsored project, The Interlude LP, which is inspired by several intros and interludes from various artists like Kanye West, Nas, Dr. Dre, and Pete Rock & CL Smooth. Kid Daytonas pieced together a project that flows shockingly well, especially considering the original premise of taking from several other projects to make one. The concept is extremely original, and the content within it makes it all fit together with high efficiency. Daytonas lyrics are potent throughout, but shine brightest on mid-tempo to slow-tempo songs such as On The Hill and On My Way Home due to his delivery. Powered by production from 9th Wonder, 6th Sense, and Bink, The Interlude LP is a well-done project that stands out lyrically and deserves more attention than its getting right now.

In the new issue of The Source magazine, Rick Ross talks about the allegations he left the Soul Train awards because he was mad Eminem won over him. Here is a partial transcript.
The word coming from the show was they you were upset Eminem beat you in the Song Of the Year category and you stormed out.
Not at all. Ive been going to award shows for a long time and Ive never had a problem with who won. Im happy Im recognized. We were in the trailer, going over these particular [performance] issues [with the sows producer]. Out of respect, we came back out there to give them a reaction to the nomination. They gave the award to Eminem. I applauded. Big Record. That wasnt the issue. Like I said, the things we requested werent met. It had nothing to do with Chrisette Michele. It may have had to do with me not knowing the other 50 people that were onstage at [rehearsal] and we doing my record.
Have you talked to Chrisette?
I havent spoken to Chrisette Michele or her team. but I didnt speak to her to [invite her to] the show either. It was something maybe the label set up. [But] her choice of words were ugly. Denouncing Hip-Hop, that aint cool. Using ugly words could give off the wrong impression. That could make your hat look ugly to me now. That could make your haircut look ugly to me now. Hopefully if we win a Grammy, shell come out and accept it withy our boy. Give me a kiss on the cheek.

These guys are not playing! Late last week, Jay-Z and Beyonce flew into Australia for the U2 tour that he is on. Well, that move is big unto itself. But, here is the catch according to sources of mine. Kanye went as well and he and Jigga Man went into the studio over there to finish up their highly anticipated album “The Throne.” I heard they also went out to the Crown Casino, whatever that means.
DUCK DOWN RECORDS’ LATEST SIGNEES?
I am hearing some interesting news. Duck Down records may be having three more signees to their label. They are reportedly about to announce the signing of Peedi Crak and Freeway, according to my sources! I think this is a great look as long as they can give the guys the proper push. There is one more artist that will reportedly sign as well. I won’t reveal that one at this time. As you know, Black Rob recently signed with them in a one off album deal. ALICIA KEYS IS STILL DEAD!
Uh oh! This may not have worked. Basically, the whole celebrities is dead thing was a protest in order to raise money for AIDS awareness. They were gunning for $1 million. The only thing is, they haven’t come even close to raising that million. So, Alicia and the family cannot get back on Twitter or Facebook until WE donate enough money to bring them back to life. As of this writing, fans have donated $290k. I think Swizz Beatz is going to be the first to break the deal and resurrect himself. He seems to love Twitter too much. LOL!

Hampton was the Black Panther Party leader that was killed by police while in his bed. It is widely regarded as an assassination. I’m sure most people won’t watch, but below is a full documentary on this called “The Murder of Fred Hampton.”

(AllHipHop News) Hip-Hop star Jay-Z called out former President George Bush Jr. in a new interview with the Associated Press about his new book, Decoded. In a new interview with the AP’s Nekesa Mumbi Moody, Jay-Z commented on Kanye West’s infamous statement that “George Bush doesn’t care about black people” during a live, nationwide telethon for Hurricane Katrina survivors in 2005. West called out George Bush Jr. for his slow reaction to the crisis, which obliterated the city of New Orleans in what has been deemed America’s worst natural disaster in the history of the country. Recently, Kanye West backed away from the comments, after George Bush Jr. labeled the incident the lowest point in his administration in his new book Decision Points. That didn’t sit well with Jay-Z, who dismissed George Bush’s comments during the interview and stood by Kanye West’s original assessment. “I 100 percent agreed with the comments that he made, because again … it felt like it was being done to black people,” Jay-Z told the Associated Press. “Like all you saw on the news was black people with help signs and all this stuff, and then you have this picture of the commander in chief, who we all rely on, just flying by.”Bush finally replied to West’s infamous remarks during a promotional for Decision Points, which is the former Presidents memoirs that were released on November 9th.”My record was strong I felt when it came to race relations and giving people a chance. And it was a disgusting moment,” President Bush told reporters. Kanye West backed away from the comments when President Bush made it known that he didn’t appreciate the stinging criticism, which helped spark a national debate over the Bush administration’s reaction to Hurricane Katrina. “I didn’t have the grounds to call him a racist,” an apologetic Kanye West said. “I believe that in a situation of high emotion like that we as human beings don’t always choose the right words.”But Jay-Z, who helped introduce Kanye West to the world via Roc-A-Fella Records, shot down the former Commander-in-Chief, for allowing the rapper’s original comments to irk him to that level.”Just the fact that he thinks that the worst thing that happened to him is Kanye saying something about him. Like, what? That alone shows you where his mind is. Are you kidding me?” Jay-Z said. To read the full interview click here.

(AllHipHop News) Rap star 50 Cent has landed a spot on the first upcoming posthumous CD Michael from legendary entertainer Michael Jackson, which is a 10-song album due in stores on December 14th. 50 Cent is featured on the song “Monster,” which he has dubbed a “2010 version of ‘Thriller,’ during an interview on Michael Jackson’s official website, MJJackson.com. According to 50 Cent, he missed the opportunity to work with Michael Jackson in the studio, although he did have the chance to speak to the legendary singer before he died on June 25, 2009. “I didn’t have the opportunity to physically be in Michael Jackson’s presence,” 50 Cent said in the interview. “My DJ, Whoo Kid, he had the opportunity to actually meet Mike, because he was interested in working with me and he said that he had something he wanted me to actually hear, a song he created.”The track “Monster” was produced by R&B vet Teddy Riley, who has crafted memorable hits for Michael Jackson like “Remember the Time,” “Jam” and “In The Closet.” “I missed an opportunity to be on a record not just with a great artist, but a legend,” 50 Cent said. “So I wanted more, and I made adjustments to my cadence so I don’t sound like I sound on music that people have previously heard from me, because I’m adjusting to the production.”

Redman presents Reggie is the seventh solo album by Redman and the album is a departure from the hardcore, rugged and raw style of old and presumably is an album by Reggie Noble – the guy behind the rap persona. So, based on past interviews, this is the character Redman offering fans a dose of who he really is at this point. But, in an age of characters, do we want a legend to give us himself? Lets find out.
Intro
Excellent into to Reggie. As a long-running fan of Redman, this was exactly what I wanted to hear. A song that made me what to hear more.
Thats Where I B
POW! Out of the gate, Reggie lets it be known Redman is still around. He is skillful, lyrical and in the hood. Thats what Thats Where I B represents as Red runs down all the places that he lurks. Nice record that features the infamous DJ Kool. The song serves as an excellent way for the 40-year-old to lay the smack down on those that may be confused about who he is.
Def Jammable
The funk is thick and the flow is free flowing. Def Jammable is a nice departure from Redmans signature flow. While it is funky as week-old collard green, it sounds fresh, unlike funktified ventures from the past (think Erick Sermon and Dr. Dre). Great song to back up the intro and Thats Where I B.
Full Nelson featuring Ready Roc, Runt Dawg and Saukrates
Full Nelson slips Reggie into the run of the mill from the moment the hook comes in. Autotune? Most of the music world has dumped the tool, but Reggie uses it as an anchor. Unfortunately, Ready Roc, Runt Dawg, Saukrates and Reggie can do little to salvage this one.
Lift It Up
Lift it up is a full-sounding song with a mighty powerful beat. Redman sounds laid back on the song, as he has thus far in Reggie. On the song he said, You Kat Stacking Me, going through the phone on me. Every so often you get an old school vibe with references to Stellas Got Her Grove Back and being from the 9-zero. But, it also speaks from the point of view of a grown man that happens to indulge in some of the same thinks the kiddies do.
All I Do featuring Faith Evans
Reggie has some success as he drops bars over plush, R&B production with Faith Evans crooning in the background. Sound lame? Nope. Another refreshing change of pace like Lemme Get 2. The song is a definitive statement of how the 20-year veteran is in love with music and how it has sustained him for such a period of time. MJ, I hope hes hearing this song, Reggie proclaims in a segment devoted to the King of Pop.
Lemme Get 2
At first the song, Lemme Get 2 sounds lame, but soon, it is evident that Reggie scores again. Lemme Get 2 is a welcomed moment of introspection from Reggie and friend Saukrates. I love traveling and seeing people / showing the ignorant my color skin is equal, he says. The hook has a bit to be desired, but overall enjoyable.
Mic , Lights , Camera , Action
Its time like this when we need change, n***a, Reggie says at the beginning of Mic , Lights, Camera , Action. Why Reggie is still talking about “change” when the election is over, is baffling. But, perhaps he is talking to Redman and letting him know that hes taking over. The only other rationale is that the material is old and just got taken off the shelf. Theres a reference to the year 2009, which makes it apparent that a lot of this material has been on the shelf for sometime..
Cheerz
Walked in, look cool / I flow like the pen got Red Bull, Reggie drops. The New Jerz vet and Ready Roc get together and lyrically beat down a slow dragging organ. This is Reggie Nobels definitive proclamation that he is a growing veteran, a true man of respect. Me stopping anytime, I think not, he proclaims in the final moments of Cheerz. Wondering what Redman thinks.
Rockin With Da Best
Oddly, the song that appears to be the strangest, works the best. Rap legend Kool Moe Dee plays shotgun on Rockin With Da Best as Redman re-appears again, rhyming over an ominous, dark beat. The song is fairly reminiscent of Redmans work on Dare Iz A Darkside, his second album from 1994. This is my favorite song on the album.
Lite 1 Witcha Boi
One for the smokers, Lite 1 Witcha Boi is a coming together of three titans Method Man, Redman and Bun B. The results are lovely for the fan. The cosmos comes down to the Earth a bit, or maybe these guys actually go up. Nevertheless, Redmans core base and new fans will be able to appreciate this one. Reggie may feel a way about it since Redman is definitely saying some things never change. Puff. Puff. Pass.
When The Lights Go Off featuring Poo Bear
When The Lights Go Off is ambitious. It sounds like a very big record by producer King David. The problem is it sounds like the Gilla House team was aiming for a big record and therefore, When The Lights Go Off comes off very forced.
Tiger Crane Style
Tiger Crane Style makes for a solid ending to Redman Presents Reggie. The record offers Redman in his traditional element of beats and rhymes. If I carry two cannons, no time to pull out / I bust out the side of my jeans like Bruce Banner, he spits. After a lot of songs that feature Reggie, this song is a welcomed change of pace and a fitting ending.
THE CONCLUSION
Redman presents Reggie is an uneven album. There are times when Redman seems to want people to bear witness to his evolution (Reggie Nobel) and others where he seems rooted in the glory of the past. The album is bookmarked by quality songs, but the songs that seem to highlight Reggie (the other side of Redman) are generally muddled by mediocre material. Those looking for the Redman of Muddy Waters, Dare, or Whut! Thee Album fame are certain to be a bit disappointed. Those days are gone. However, the upside is for a newer generation unattached to those classics will bear witness to a vet that still has his legs under him and a wicked jumper. The main issue is, we, the super fans, are looking for monster dunks and 360 slams. Prayerfully, Redman will come back with out Reggie alone when he releases the anticipated Muddy Waters II. “Def Jammable” [Official Video]

Its 8pm in Los Angeles and Jeremih and 50 Cent have just made it into production for the video “Down On Me, the latest and hottest collaboration from the young R&B singer and the G-Unit general. AllHipHop.com caught up with the Chicago-native to get the latest on his new album and recent success.
Jeremih: Hey, what’s going on Jaiden?
AllHipHop.com: What’s up bro, what’s good with ya?
Jeremih: Just chillin, chillin dog. Just touched down in L.A.
AllHipHop.com: I heard you were gonna be busy after the Soul Train Awards, but I aint know you would be getting it in like this?
Jeremih: Yeah man, I’m not complaining though.
AllHipHop.com: No doubt, success is definitely a blessing. I gotta tell you, its been a highly successful year for you bro.
Jeremih: Oh yes, this is definitely a phenomenal year man.
AllHipHop.com: So let’s skip this year and rewind back to last year, so I’m hearing this song all over Atlanta, every radio station, in the malls, and even at the red lights; everyone was bumping ” Birthday Sex. I was like who in the heck is this cat that is tearing up the airwaves like this?
Jeremih: (Laughs)
AllHipHop.com: I’m like who is Jeremih? I found out, but people were calling you Jeremiah, and that’s not how you pronounce your name.
Jeremih: Yeah, a lot of people have mispronounced it. Its actually Jeremih (je ruh my).
AllHipHop.com: Cool, so now that we have that straight, allow me to congratulate you on your debut success. And I have to ask you, were you nervous at all about the your new project?
Jeremih: Nah, you know the first project was very well received and the people, especially the ladies, supported me heavily. So this time around I’m anticipating even more support from newer fans who are here, by way of my current fans. But I wasn’t nervous at all, you know music is what I do. I live it, breathe it; music is me. I actually look at it from the perspective of me being able to do what I love to do and simultaneously, financially support myself. So I wasn’t nervous if anything I’m more so excited to be able to give my fans a new experience on this album and glad that the world gets to hear my music and share in my experiences.
AllHipHop.com: Ok, so how do the experiences differ from that of your first LP?
Jeremih: Well, its been an incredible year dawg, you know? One minute I’m making beats, and the next I’m hearing my songs in the club. I’m traveling all over the world meeting new people and doing things that I never knew I’d be doing. So it has been an amazing transition and its all because God allowed people to feel me; so I’m actually dedicating this new LP to my fans. My way of musically saying, Thank You.
AllHipHop.com: Man, I knew there was something different about you when you made your debut on 106th and Park. I was like, Ok cool, right? And the lights come on and you were rocking out with the piano and I was like, (Applause), this is true entertainment.
Jeremih: Thank you dawg, I have been playing the piano since I can remember, and I was glad that the world could see what makes me different, the thing that makes the distinguishment between an artist and a musician. I’m so comfortable playing the piano and I know my fans could understand why I have the tattoos on my right arm. I try to incorporate the piano into as many of my shows as I can.
AllHipHop.com: Absolutely, in this day and age, were accustomed to an era that manufactures clone type artists that have no uniqueness; so to experience an artist such as yourself, definitely sets you apart. So let’s jump into right now-you have the joint I Like ” with my fellow Atlantaien Ludacris that was well received, and of course, the bangin new hit “Down On Me” that made its way to the coveted number 4 spot on Itunes.
Jeremih: Yes, things are definitely great right now, you know Ludacris and 50 Cent are artists that I grew up wanting to work with, so to now have hit records with them is awesome dawg! Especially considering the fact that I didn’t have any features on my first album, it was all me, and I think I speak for all artists when I say its nothing like walking into a club, or in your car, and hearing your music, and of course songs that you have with artists that you aspired to work with.
AllHipHop.com: That can be a little mind blowing.
Jeremih: Yeah, you know when its meant to be, that’s how it works. I was just excited to work with another musician that I both respected and admired. I had no idea that we’d be making a hit song.AllHipHop.com: That’s official right there though homie. So I have been hearing that your musical brand is so hot right now- 50 and Luda aren’t the only collabs you have right now? The word is that calls are pouring in from everywhere?
Jeremih: Yeah, it is a blessing and it feels great to still be a relatively new artist and have people responding and reaching out. So yeah, I have the Keenan Cahill joint, and then a joint ” Don’t Deserve You ” with Lloyd Banks that were actually performing together on a few dates. Yo, when I tell you that joint is hot- I’m saying if I heard the song and it wasn’t me on it, I would still be banging it( ha,ha).
AllHipHop.com: So how did you and Lloyd connect?
Jeremih: How Lloyd and I hooked up was crazy, I was in New York, met Lloyd that morning and that night I was in the studio recording.
AllHipHop.com: Wow,talk about making it happen.
Jeremih: Yes sir, that’s how we riding dawg.
AllHipHop.com: Bet. I can dig it. So things are blazing right now, the second LP is burning up. What can we expect from this album more so that was different from the Jeremih we first met?
Jeremih: Honestly, a lot of growth, as I said before. I just have so many more experiences that I speak about, being that I have so many new things in my life. For instance, I have a songs that are reminiscent of different club and show experiences, just a lot of new experiences.
AllHipHop.com: Bet. I’m definitely grabbing about 50 copies to give away at Christmas.
Jeremih: Ha,Ha. Thanks Dawg
AllHipHop.com: Most definitely welcome. So I know you gotta bounce in a little bit. Can we get into the video for a second?
Jeremih: Yeah, I’m actually in L.A. with 50, preparing to shoot the video for the single “Down On Me. I actually just made it to L.A. to get prepped you know.
AllHipHop.com: Now, I know youre shooting a video. Didn’t you have something on YouTube for the single?
Jeremih: Yeah, we had a video that did crazy hits on YouTube, so many hits. 50 was like, Yoooo (ha,ha). But that a teaser that we created exclusively for the fans. Being that the response was so huge, the video that were shooting now is the official video for the single.
AllHipHop.com: Well again, thanks for taking time to sit down and giving us the happs on what’s new with you and your new project.
Jeremih: Anytime bro.
AllHipHop.com: Oh yeah, also you have a wonderful supportive team behind you, from your management to PR. So ya’ll keep grinding and doing the damn thing, cause ya’ll are definitely doing it. Much Success and blessings to you bro.
Jeremih: Thanks Dawg!

Over the Thanksgiving Holiday something very disturbing took place Homeland Security along with ICE (Immigration & Customs Enforcement) , the Department of Justice and the National Intellectual Property Rights Co-ordinating Center seized over 80 websites including popular Hip Hop websites RapGodfathers.com, dajaz1.com, Onsmash.com. These Hip Hop sites were accused of copyright violations, which is crazy, because these sites were popular because they mostly worked with artists to promote their work and help establish a buzz. and
Was there anything on those sites in violation of copyright law? The nature of any music site as robust as the ones mentioned you will inevitably find material. It might come in the form of someone posting a song on a message board, or a video clip from a concert with back ground music. It might be a link to a third-party site which was the case with the aforementioned sites where folks could find material. My experience over the years oftentimes its the artists themselves coming to sites asking for their material to be posted while the labels which also own part of the copyright objects.
In most cases if a site wasnt blowing things up too much, most industry folks didnt trip. in talking with label heads they note that in most cases if a song or material was being highlighted prematurely or jeopardizing upcoming promotions a letter, email would be sent out or a phone call made asking for the files or links to be removed. Most sites comply without too much fanfare. Its the way things have been done for years. Its the symbiotic relationship that has long existed with record labels and media.
Its important to note this practice of labels asking media outlets to stop playing or highlighting material has been around long before the internet. Working at a major radio station and several large music outlets, the name of the game was for us to get material way ahead of its release date. Sometimes we managed to get a hold of a press copy of a song given to magazines months in advance. Other times it was someone inside the label leaking us a songcease and decease playing their material. Many of these stations including ours would post those letters up on the wall and even frame them. It was a source of pride and demonstrated your ability to have impact. which we would play for a couple of days only to get a letter from the record labels lawyers ordering us to
Granted the internet and us being in a digital world has allowed for unlimited copies of material to be distributed and there has definitely been rough patches with digital media and record labels, but at the end of the day all this boils down to relationships and the rule of thumb has been-know the people who run the sites and ask them to remove anything that was causing problems.
In the case of these Hip Hop sites, no warning was given. Not only that, but the entire websites were seized. In some cases were talking about hundreds of thousands of message board postings, articles etc. This wasnt a shut down of a website. It was the shut down of a community and no matter how one feels about copyright law and how vigorously it should be enforced shut downs without due process should be disturbing to every last one of us.
What should be even more disturbing is how those shut downs took place. Who in Homeland Security was up on Onsmash.com enough to sit down and make a sound decision to shut down the site and seize its domain? How did they know the sites were in violation of any copyright? Was it the word of copyright owner? Did DHS check to get the other side of the story? Did the owners get arrested? Had they been fined or in trouble for any of this in the past?
Let me paint out a couple of scenarios that folks should consider before people start puffing out their chest and acting all righteous about websites breaking the law. First as mentioned earlier take down notices should be given thus allowing one the opportunity to straighten anything out. Thats first and foremost.
Second, oftentimes you have artists and even promotional folks at labels that will come along and give you material and a greenlight. I could show you at least half a dozen emails that Ive gotten in the past two weeks with folks asking how I can get material on my site. two have offered to pay. What many of us who do this work have discovered is that what the promo guys and the artists want may not always be in lockstep with what the lawyers or the trade organization for major labels (note I said labels not artists-remember that) the RIAA is pushing. The relationship with the artists and labels are fluid and informal while the relationship with the RIAA and lawyers for the label may be strictly by the book and to the letter of the law. One often has no idea what the other is doing. End game mass confusion.
The RIAA has railed against copyright infringement before there was an internet. They were mad about cassette tapes, then DATs, then CDS and now the web. This powerful lobbying group has always been a presence up on Capital Hill pushing for laws that would protect the interests and intellectual property rights of MAJOR record labels. They definitely been up on the hill pushing and many say help right some of these new copyright laws, which leaves one wondering are they pointing out offending websites to Homeland Security?
Thats not a far-fetched notion and should have all concerned. Corporations sitting along side law enforcement to protect whose interest? All of our interests or just theirs? Are the police and law enforcement following the dictates of corporations at everyone elses expense. At the end of the day thats called Fascism.
days after this photo was taken, editor Jason Chen got a vist from REACT
We saw blatant display of this earlier this year when a task force consisting of several police agencies called (REACT) Californias Rapid Enforcement Allied Computer Team went banging on the door of Gizmodo editor Jason Chen entered his house and took his computers to see if he was behind the leaking of Apples next-gen i-phones. The task force claimed they were investigating to see if a law was violated.
Initially some clapped and felt the police were doing their job, until it was discovered that Apple sat on the board that oversaw the new task force that took Chens computers. Did the police do this because of Apples initial complaints or because they sat on the board?
Fast forward to a troubling news story a few weeks ago here in the Bay Area where a young man had a computer stolen from his office. He had a tracking chip inside that took a picture of the thief, however local police did not immediately follow-up with an investigation. The man resorted to taking his story to local news stations and even then there was no action. Talk about an imbalance of power and influence.
We did an interview earlier this week with Peter Eackersly of Electronic Frontier Foundation which has been in the forefront of protecting internet freedoms. He noted that what took place was far reaching and will continue to be so, because now the US is shutting down sites overseas. he also noted that what took place here without due process appeared to be the first step in the government with the assistance of corporate interests seeing how far they can go before they get push back.
While following these cases keep a close eye on the types of steps and reaches made around the Wikileak saga. Whatever the government is allowed to get away with is gonna set a precedent. Thus far weve seen shut down attacks and seizures take place. Even more disturbing has been American companies like Amazon taking down the Wikileak cables. They officially say it was because of terms of service violations, but most experts are noting they got pressured.
Senator Joe Lieberman has been threatening websites without due process
To show you just how far the government is going, look what Senator Joe Lieberman just did. He threatened a Seattle-based company called Tableau to take down information that was legal and not classified, but reported on and issued charts about who and what countries were discussing Wikileaks.. His actions prompted a scorching response from commentator Glenn Greenwald.
Those are the benign, purely legal documents that have now been removed from the Internet in response to Joe Liebermans demands and implied threats. Hes on some kind of warped mission where hes literally running around single-handedly dictating what political content can and cannot be on the Internet, issuing broad-based threats to all companies that is causing suppression of political information.
You can read the story HERE
Today its Wikileaks being taken down which one might accept it because arguments can made about sensitive material being revealed and national security at stake could be argued. But what happens tomorrow when its you or me, because we represent competition or hold political beliefs that arent agreed upon? What happens when its you or me and the justification is that weve always allowed government to take down websites without a day and court, why complain now?
During our interview with Eackersly he noted that it was important for artists and others in the Hip Hop community to stand up, be aware of what transpired and come to the aid of those Hip Hop websites and communities that were shut down especially if they meant something to you.
After our interview Eackersly wanted to know the type of support the seized websites were getting. In his mind, he knew such large outlets would have throngs of artists ready to go to war for them. I think he was a bit surprised to see that more of us were talking about Lil Kim vs Nicki Minaj then the undue processed seizure of music websites. Even sadder is that many have callousesly moved onto other sites as if the shut downs of Onsmash and RapGodfathers was no big deal and was just another day in the life. Mark my words not understanding this and being dismissive will come back to haunt folks.
Understand this.. the seizure of websites without due process, corporate interests lobbying and then writing laws that allow them to be the police and t personally enforce, the battle over net neutrality is all about concentrating power in the hands of a few. This is about controlling the flow of information and being a gate keeper in the communications arena. Its the first step in moving a democracy toward a dictatorship. The next step is getting a population to endure fianacial upheavels and hardships.
The internet was the most democratizing tool weve had in a long time and now those who hate having to share and be accountable are trying to shut things down. Its a power grab of the highest order. Dont ever get used to being oppressed..Itll be your undoing for years to come..Stay alert be ready, because they coming for you next.

Lastly after printing this I just got wind of a story Democracy Now just ran
The U.S. State Department has imposed an order barring employees from reading the leaked WikiLeaks cables. State Department staffers have been told not to read cables because they were classified and subject to security clearances. The State Departments WikiLeaks censorship has even been extended to university students. An email to students at Columbia Universitys School of International and Public Affairs says: The documents released during the past few months through Wikileaks are still considered classified documents. [The State Department] recommends that you DO NOT post links to these documents nor make comments on social media sites such as Facebook or through Twitter. Engaging in these activities would call into question your ability to deal with confidential information, which is part of most positions with the federal government.
I dont need no help my n**** / I can do bad on my own / and I dont need no company little mama / stop ringing my cellular phone / when I be down and out nobody want to come and kick it / Im a Nobody until I can shine / so when my money is long / I dont need nobody to visit / leave me lonely like you did last time -Z-Ro
There is a difference between being alone and being lonely. Loneliness is selfish; it demands everything. Both menacing and rigorous, loneliness stalks its prey. Its shadow consumes and smothers. Loneliness is diseased thought; whereas, being alone is most often a calculated decision. The saying goes, no man is an island. Well, there are many peninsulas. Why be alone? There are countless answers like, to preserve sanity, or perhaps it is a self-defense mechanism. Whatever the reason, many choose to be alone.

AllHipHop.com: Describe going from being a listener to becoming an actual lyricist. What album made you want to start writing and getting your message out to the public?
Z-Ro: Really, to tell you the truth, I had always wrote poems and stuffpoetrybefore music. But, what really made me want to rap is the Beastie Boys (Licensed to Ill). That was the first record that my people ever bought for me. My aunt, she bought me that s*** when I was still like in, sixth grade. It was back when I was just writing poetry. I was like, these dudes is acting a gaddam fool on this CD and having fun. And then I realized that they doing this for fun, but they getting paid. Im like, no s***, you can do this and get money? So, I started playing with it a little bit. You know, [theyre] probably the ones that just put it on my mind.
But, what really made me want to go professional with it was my man Point Blanks record Prone to Bad Dreams. I just heard a whole bunch of crazy s*** on there. I was like how the f*** can somebody think this demented and twisted? But the s*** interested me. The s*** he was saying on that b####, I was like, Man, that n**** crazy! I got to be part of this. You can just get on the m####****ing mic and say what you want, and m####****s are gonna pay you for it. Thats probably the one that put the key in my back.
I Hate U B*tch
AllHipHop.com: Do you have the words to describe the feeling that you get when youre actually on stage doing what you do and the crowd is loving it?
Z-Ro: It gives me chill bumps like a m####****a. You go out there to go to work. Its a shock to see so many m####****as quoting the s*** that you just might have just said playing around. You may have just said some s*** off the top of your head and these people are living on every word. If you tell these people to jump, theyll all jump up. You get chill bumps; the s*** gives you the chills! I aint trying to be blasphemous or anything like that; but, youll feel like, I really got a power. It will trip you out. Youre just human. But to be one m####****a controlling the multitude; its a feeling of power.
AllHipHop.com: Words hold power. Is there a verse or an album, that each time you listen to it, it transports you back to the time when you wrote it?
Z-Ro: Damn near every song is like that; because, every song comes from something else. It comes from a time in life or a particular situation. But, I would probably have to say, every time I hear I Hate U B####
AllHipHop.com: [laughs] Damn.
Z-Ro: In my mind, I go back to the b####. That will pop up before anything else pops up.
If you get robbed, or some s*** happens to youokays*** happens in the street everyday. But, when that happens to you at the crib, that is going to be in the forefront of your head until you leave this m####****a. You might have got shot before, but how this particular companion did you, might stick out more in your mind than a m####****a who caught you at the stoplight and robbed you for your car. You expect that from a m####****a you dont know. But, from a m####****a that sleeps six inches away from you, you wouldnt expect that type of s***. Any song that I done did about a femalewhere I was going off on a femalethose songs take me back to those particular times every time I hear those songs. To mebefore any of the drank songs, the getting shot songs, the gangsta songsthe companionship songs are the most adamant.
Pimp On (Screw remix)
AllHipHop.com: Upon your first introduction to DJ Screw, what was your impression of him as a man and as a musician? How did your perception of him evolve as you got to know him better?
Z-Ro: My first perception was, This man can get me out of the ghetto. Thats your first perception with anybody thats got a place of power. Youre thinking that they can put they hands on your career, and do something to help you get promoted. It was on some business s*** at first. A friend of mine, Grady, he used to always tell me, B####, you need to get up in Screws house. Im telling you as soon as you get there thats gon be it. As soon you get in Screw house your career is gonna really start! For me not really being a people person, I didnt want to be in nobodys face. I aint like m####****as up in my face. But, you know, the s*** happened.
We met. I did a show and [DJ Screws] brother Al D called him The s*** that was a trip about it was, I actually had already met Screw just on a business venture. My first record I did with Fisher Boys, Look What You Did to Me, I had a song on there called Pimp On. We did a remix to Pimp On and we got Screw to come to the studio. He came through. He got on the remix, did some s*** talking and did a little mixing on it. So, I had already met him business-wise. So nowfast-forward to his brother introducing mehis brother was like, This m####****a got something on the mic. So, I started f***ing with the man. Im just thinking that Im going to be on the mic all the time, makin nothing but Screw tapes.
After you become an acquaintance, you go to [being] a friend. And it was like, F*** this rapping all the time! He used to always tell me real positive s*** like, Man, your career aint never gonna be s*** if you dont get rid of your attitude. Your career aint never gonna be s*** if you dont put this pistol down. All the drugs and s*** I was on, he was like, Man, you aint gonna do nothing but use all your m####****ing money to buy these drugs and these pistols. So, its going to be for nothing. That really turned into being a mantra after awhile. My perception went from, this is my ticket out this ghetto to this is my ticket to being a man.
AllHipHop.com: Damn, thats profound.
Z-Ro: Yeah, so thats what that was.
AllHipHop.com: Which came first, you becoming part of S.U.C. (Screwed Up Click / Soldiers United for Cash), or you and Trae forming A.B.N. (A**holes By Nature)?
Z-Ro: It was S.U.C. Really, I got to say it like how it really go. First and foremost, you know, it was the Killa Klan. You know, with Street Military, and Bam and Klondike Kat, all them cats. And then out of that came the H.P.C. (Hog Pen Clique) with K-Rino and Point Blank, and Ganksta NIP and all them cats. Really, Killa Klan and S.P.C. (South Park Coalition) are like, damn near one, and the hood Im from MO City (Missouri City, TX). Lil Flea from Street Military, hes from the same hood, and he was vouching for me and he started bringing me around, as did Dope-Es brother from Terrorists; he started bringing me around S.P.C. at the same time I was going around the Killa Klan. So, that came first and foremost.
At the time I came in with them their careers and s*** was still booming. It really wasnt time for a n**** to do too too much with them. So, I was down with them, but the first person to really put me on some s*** and give me some money for it was Screw. So, you know, Id do a song with Street Military, Id do a song with Bamor whoever it may beand it was just for the sake of doing songs. It wasnt no money. When youre sleeping outside and s***, you dont want to play no favorites. You want to go to where you can get you some money in your pocket
Screw was on some s*** like, come freestyle on this beat and before I leave that man house Id have like $400 dollars. Four hundred dollars was a whole lot of money to me back then. I was tripping like, gaddam, what I got to do for this s***? He was like, You done did it already. So, yeah, it was S.U.C. I actually got named to be in the Screwed Up Click, right around the time that me and Trae and them, and Doug when we had our first beef. I wasnt even f***ing with Trae and them, and they wasnt f***ing with me at the time that he [DJ Screw] put me in the S.U.C.
AllHipHop.com: Around what year was your first beef with Trae; whyd yall get into it?
Z-Ro: Well, s***, it aint never really been no beef; so, I really cant say beef. Well the first, Id say, falling out, was whenever Big Moes City of Syrup record came out. Big Moe put out City of Syrup I was ghostwriting for Moe and D-Gotti was ghostwriting for Moe. That time was when our first misunderstanding came about. I want to say was around 00 or 99; like right around that time when Screw was going into the ground and s***.
AllHipHop.com: They say that blood is thicker than water. Along with your cousin, Trae, yall formed A.B.N.; how do you prevent the business/creative relationship from negatively affecting the family relationship that you have with Trae?
Z-Ro: Well s***, obviously we didnt. Because, the Gods honest truth is, we are not related at all. Aint none of us [are]. Doug is not my brother, Trae is not my cousin, and you know; but, JayTon and Trae are really brothers. But I mean, you know, wasnt none of us in the Guerilla Maab immediately related, or in the first A.B.N. So, I really look at it like it really couldnt be no real love there to be fam; because, if it really was, then it would have probably ended up being on some different s***. When we did come together to do a record, wed come together to do a record and just stay cool long enough to get a record out, and then its back to, you know, f*** him, f*** me.
Rain
AllHipHop.com: Right now, theres no plan for future collaborations?
Z-Ro: I dont know what he would have in mind. But as far as that goes, thats a closed chapter in my life thatll never be reopened. Well, you know, Im focusing on Z-Ros career. Im not real crazy about doing too many records with muthaf***as other than Z-Ro, unless Farris tells me otherwise, or some s*** like that. Nah, thats some s*** that got too personal. Theres no bad blood between us now; but, were both going to hold a grudge until we take our last breath. There are two things in my life that Im positive about. Number one is I will die one day. And, no, I will never do music with Trae again.
AllHipHop.com: Never is a long time.
Z-Ro: Yeah, its a long time; but, bulls*** been happening for a long time. At the end of the day I can really say 75% of the bulls*** didnt come from him or me. I just probably, you know, woke up a littler earlier than he woke up. It comes a time in your life where you got to stop listening to what the next man is saying. Because, ultimately Trae is a force and Z-Ro is a force. We are hurricanes in this s***; all these other rap n****s are like drizzle storms.
For us to be together is they worst muthaf***ing fear. They really loathe and despise the fact that if Ro and Trae get together, theyre dead again. So, these muthaf***as in our ears; they love when were focused on beefing and not making good music. They love it so they can slide in right beneath the both of us and try to take that position from us. But you know, if we really got the talent muthaf***as cant take the following that we got. The both of us, we got like a cult following. Add A.B.N. together, s###, thats all his fans and all my fans. S***, thats like a multitude.
These muthaf***as fear that. They fear the togetherness. So, theyll come around me like, Say, man, Ro, I heard that n**** Trae said f*** you, he the king of the ghetto. And then go around him and be like, Say, Trae, I heard that n**** Ro say f### you! He the king of the streets. And nan one of us said none of that s***. Its these muthaf***as delivering the messages thats trying to break the whole situation down, simply so they can eat. Basically, what it is, Im selling crack, hes selling crack and these muthaf***as selling some bulls*** crack, and they want to come through and drop dimes on us. Get us to go to jail and get us to kill each other. So when you look up the next month these muthaf***as living in our houses selling the same crack. Thats what all this s*** is about. I just peeped the s*** before he peeped it. Thats why I showed some humility in the situation and I backed all the way off the s***.
Aint no such thing as friends only associates. – Z-Ro.
