Dipset’s King Tut Busted With Cocaine In Teddy Bear

Police in Northern New Jersey arrested Dipset Affiliate King Tut, after police stopped his car and found cocaine hidden inside of a teddy bear.

King Tut, born Darnell Brittingham and his promoter, Brandon Buckley, were stopped on Route 1 south, for tailgating and driving with illegally tinted windows in New Jersey.

When an officer approached the 2005 white Toyota Camry around 9:30 PM last night (February 11), he noticed the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle.

A search of the car uncovered multiple bags of marijuana, a half ounce of cocaine inside the teddy bear and various drug paraphernalia, including a digital scale and a number of small plastic bags.

King Tut, 23 and Buckley, 22, were charged with manufacturing and intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both are being held at the Bergen County Jail, with King Tut’s bail being $25,000, while Buckley’s is $15,000 bail.

DJ Quik: Straight Outta CPT

David “DJ Quik” Blake is

considered one of the rap game’s most talented

music producers by fans worldwide. As an artist, he was first introduced to us on his early 90’s

release Quik Is The Name and became

one of the main pillars that the West Coast rap scene was built upon with

tracks like “Born and Raised in Compton” and “Tonite.”

DJ Quik followed up the success of

his solo release with other highly acclaimed albums such as Way 2 Fonky, Safe & Sound, and Rhythm-al-ism, which saw him defend the city of

Compton, endure a beef with fellow hometown rapper MC Eiht and even declare

himself not a gangster on 1998’s “You’z A Ganxta.”

The new millennium brought the release of Quik’s

fifth album, Balance & Options,

which was led by the party jam “Pitchin On A Party.” After

the release of Balance & Options,

DJ Quik felt the pain of tragedy as his friend and protégé’ Mausberg was

murdered in the streets of Compton. This issue was addressed on the song “50

Ways” off of his sixth release, Under The

Influence.

After his seventh release, Trauma, Legal troubles caught up with DJ Quik and he ended up

serving several months in jail for allegedly pulling a gun during a family

dispute. Released from jail, Quik teamed up with his old friend AMG to form The

Fixxers and the two prepared their group album, Midnight Life. The group disbanded after the album was leaked

online however Quik kept himself busy by mixing and producing for Snoop Dogg’s

album Ego Trippin’

Now back in the game, DJ Quik has teamed with West Coast

veteran Kurupt for a duo album called Blaqkout

to be released this spring. The producer/artist recently invited AllHipHop.com

out to his monthly showcase “Quik’s Groove” which is held at the end of every

month at The Key Club in West Hollywood, to talk about his new moves and what

the future holds for him.

AllHipHop.com:

Your fans haven’t heard from you in a while. Tell everybody what you’ve been up

to these past few years?

DJ Quik: I’ve

been producing. For the last year I’ve been working with Snoop Dogg and Teddy

Riley. Last summer me and Kurupt went in the studio and did an album together.

We are about to put that out through Universal/Fontana. It’s called Blaqkout and we are ready to drop it on

the world.

Do I Love Her (feat. Suga Free) – DJ Quik

AllHipHop.com:

What made you decide to do this collaboration with Kurupt as your first move

back since your Trauma album?

DJ Quik: My first

move before I do a solo album? I guess because I am getting out of the artist

thing, for me. I could easily just do records for myself but it isn’t fun if I

don’t at least try to unite and unify the West Coast since we are having so

much downtime and not in tune with Atlanta music. That’s all

I’ve been hearing, stuff like, “You guys need to do some crunk music,” or

whatever. We can’t do that! I tried to do that with AMG [as The Fixxers] and

that sh**t got mixed reviews. So I can’t please

everybody. I am just about me now. If people like it, then cool. If they don’t,

then f**k ‘em!

Can U Werk Witdat – The Fixxers

AllHipHop.com:

What was it like working with Kurupt for this new Blaqkout album? Was the chemistry there?

DJ Quik: Kurupt

is magic. He’s always been a dope lyricist but it’s been hard to get him with

people that will take him seriously and write records with him and for him

– as opposed to just giving him a beat. You can give him a beat and he’ll

bust over a beat because he’s a freestyle artist but we tailor-made this record

to his style and my style. It’s a mixture of his Philadelphia style and my

Compton style and we did a record that just made f**kin’ sense. It goes over

smooth. It’s like a shot of Patron, ya dig?

AllHipHop.com: So

when is the album coming out?

DJ Quik: April 28th.

We are getting the samples cleared and then it will be ready to go.

AllHipHop.com:

What’s next for you after this Blaqkout album?

DJ Quik: My own

album! I am going to go ahead and do DJ Quik. That’s going to come around

Christmas time. We are going to go do the Blaqkout Tour and have fun during the

summer. We are going to wild out on stage.

AllHipHop.com:

You are working with Snoop Dogg and Teddy Riley as a production unit. What are

you guys working on?

DJ Quik: Snoop

started this company called QDT. We produce records and write songs for other

cats that don’t have access to great producers or songwriters. We are trying to

be a medium between them and the record company. Teddy has been writing for The

Pussycat Dolls and other people at Interscope. Snoop has been writing for some

of his groups, and I’ve been storing tracks for them when it’s time to go

full-fledged with it.

DJ Quik “Tonite”

Video

AllHipHop.com: Are

there any artists that you are working with to put out right now?

DJ Quik: My band,

The O Boyz. They come from Oakland, California. They are really talented kids

that really get it in. The drummer is Q, the keyboardist is Lynette, the

guitarist is Greg, and the bass player is Marcus. These guys really love music.

They are young but they were born in to music so it’s real easy for them to

play whatever we do.

AllHipHop.com:

Are they signed to the label that you have with Universal/Fontana?

DJ Quik: I am

actually going to get them their own deal. Signing somebody is not always the

best option. People go around saying, “I signed so-and-so” and then they to go

and get a release because nothing happens. I am going to keep the group free

but they know that my loyalties lie with them. I am going to do what is best

for them, even if that means letting them sign with somebody else.

DJ Quik “Pitchin

On a Party” Video

AllHipHop.com:

You stated earlier about the West Coast having downtime right now…

DJ Quik:

Everybody says it’s dormant even

though Dr. Dre, Eminem and 50 Cent have a number one song on the radio right

now. People are still like, “Y’all need to do Atlanta music! Do Atlanta music!”

AllHipHop.com:

Who are some young artists from the West Coast that DJ Quik would tell the rest

of the world to look out for?

DJ Quik: Problem,

a young cat from Compton, is dope. Jay Rock is blowing up right now. He’s

signed to Warner Bros. and he has this collaboration song with Lil Wayne and

Will.I.Am called “All My Life.” Bad Lucc from Watts is funky. Those are my

favorite three right now that are up-in-coming from

the West Coast.

AllHipHop.com: As

a veteran, what is your take on the music industry right now?

DJ Quik: I’m

watching it in charts and graphs. Record sales are down 40% over the last three

years and it’s a steady progression downward. It’s on life support. Our

industry is about to be over. I’m about to do a career change soon because I

need to keep my standards of living up. I can’t do music for welfare fees.

Truth Hurts f/ Rakim “Addictive”

Video (Produced by DJ Quik)

AllHipHop.com:

What are you going to do then?

DJ Quik: I am

going to do whatever I want to do. I have options. I can act. I can do whatever

I want – I’m good. I’m not afraid. This is just machismo that’s talking

because of the alcohol that I’m drinking right now. I’m pretty confident that

that I can have fun. I have such a great support group. Who wouldn’t want to

have people like Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Xzibit and more of your other

favorite rappers to have your back? I even have actors like Chris Rock and Tony

Rock – these people have my back. If I want to do a song with someone, I

can just call them. Will Smith, whoever – I have connections. I’m good.

AllHipHop.com:

You seem to be in a happier place right now. I remember a few years back, you

had a vibe of bitterness about you. I even saw you walk off stage cursing out

the soundman and other people at a Powerhouse concert.

DJ Quik: Oh you

were there? Yes I was bitter. I had just lost Mausberg and I got in to a bad

crash on my motorcycle. I had a hole in my hip! Who can go through all of that

and just be like, “Throw your hands in the air!” My hip is bleeding and my

favorite rapper and best friend is dead – still warm in his casket. How

can you do all of that with a straight face? It was a bad time for me to be out

in public. I was bitter, so I took a break and the industry moved on without me

– It is what it is. Because I am a forward thinker, I went and did some

new creative music. You can’t f**k with me dog! I am a Pro-Tools guru. I buy

all of the latest plug-ins, equipment and technology. I’m a nerd with that! I’m

going to spend my last dollar on that stuff. If someone asks me, “What are you

going to do with the last money that you have in the industry? Are you going to

buy stocks and bonds or equipment?” I’ll be like, “N***a, I’m going right to West

L.A. Music to buy the new hottest sh*t and that sh*t is going to make me ten

times the money that I spent on it.” Thank God for my knowledge. I’m a genius

and it’s the best thing ever.

DJ Quik “Born & Raised in

Compton” Video

AllHipHop.com:

What ended up happening to The Fixxers group that you had with AMG?

DJ Quik: I love

AMG to death but it got hectic because it was such a good situation and some

people that have been living real badly for years to getting a deal with

Interscope – it might’ve been too much for them to handle. People were coming

in and being leeches to us – too much bad influence was infiltrating the

situation. There was this guy that took our CD and posted it online under my

name and Myspace. I would never do that! First off, it’s the intellectual

property of Interscope. You don’t do that! That’s just retarded. This guy did

it just to get money and he ended up becoming a substance abuser and a

crack-head. His name is Hudson Baxter. He’s a cluck-head running around with

Bobby Brown right now trying to be security. He’s on borrowed time. I’m not

going to do anything to him because I don’t want to go back to jail – but

f**k him in his motherf**kin’ booty-hole – he’s a b***h!

50 Cent Stalks DJ Khaled’s Mother In Video Threat

50 Cent’s personal attacks took an ominous and unprecedented turn last night (February 11) when the mogul released a voyeuristic clip of DJ Khaled’s mother.

The video, entitled “A Psychic Told Me,” begins with 50 writing a poem boasting of damaging Khaled’s property and knowing his mother’s whereabouts.

“Your tires got stabbed out,” 50 states. “Now you know I know where you be…I know where your momma house at, now look you can see…I know where your momma work at, now look at her sleep.”

The video shows a property residence and mailbox number late at night.

Also shown is a sleeping woman, alleged to be Khaled’s mother, while unidentified members of 50 Cent’s entourage hover around her flashing thisis50.com t-shirts.

In addition, the cameraman records photos of Khaled’s family that are visible on the office desk. 50 ends the piece by warning “I’m not the kinda ni**a you should f**k with B, I’m special. I have less compassion than the average human being.”

With that, gunshots ring out in the background.

While the feud is primarily between Rick Ross and 50, the G Unit CEO has repeatedly accused Khaled of instructing Ross to go after him.

Although 50 and Ross have exchanged diss records, both have put considerably more efforts into attacks outside of battle records, such as carton clips, legal documents, and websites.

Because of invasion of privacy issues, it is possible 50 Cent’s viral clip may open up legal ramifications.

At press time, DJ Khaled could not be reached for comment.

“I have less compassion than the average human being.”

50 Cent has gone off the deep end in the beef game. It almost seems like he is trying to overtake the drame surrounding Chris Brown and Rihanna. He writes a poem to DJ Khaled and he basically pays a visit to dude’s mother at a laundry mat or something.

The Bomb Squad To Play Legendary Webster Hall

The seminal Bomb Squad production team will bring their influential sound to New York City’s famous Webster Hall on March 19.

Currently comprised of brothers Hank and Keith Shocklee, the original 5 member Bomb Squad is responsible for many of Hip-Hop culture’s most memorable songs and albums in the late 80s and early 90s.

The team constructed the sample-heavy foundations of the classic Public Enemy LP’s Yo! Bum Rush the Show, It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back, and Fear of a Black Planet.

Also, the group heavily contributed to Ice Cube’s landmark gangsta rap debut, AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted, and his critically acclaimed EP Kill At Will.

In evaluating today’s music scene, Squad member Hank Schocklee feels Hip-Hop can still be used to inspire positive change in its listeners.

“When I set out to create Public Enemy over 20 years ago it was just an experiment to see if music could raise the consciousness,” Shocklee explained to AllHipHop.com. “Now looking back I think most can agree that music is the most powerful form of communication and for me as a producer it’s always been a question of what you choose to do with that power. In 2009 I’ve got a lot of sh*t off my chest. I’ve been in the dungeon with my brother Keith and a ridiculous amount of technology so hold on to your seats, it’s about to get ugly.”

The Bomb Squad promises to debut new tracks at the Webster Hall show, which will subsequently be released on their forthcoming new album.

The March 19 performance is set to begin at 9PM, with doors opening at 8PM.

Knockout Nation: Calzaghe Retires! Darchinyan Breaks Arce, Margarito Hearing, HBO B.A.D. 2/14, Ingemar Johansson

Darychinyan Scores Dominant 11th Round TKO For over 3 years, Vic Darchinyan has promised to destroy Jorge Arce.

On Saturday (February 7), he delivered. In front of a mostly pro-Mexican crowd, unified super flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan (32-1-1, 26 KOs) retained his crown with a brutal TKO corner stoppage of Jorge Arce (51-5-1, 39 KOs). Round 1 immediately showed the fight pattern that would be Arce’s downfall. Darchinyan kept the fight in ring center and mostly at mid-range.

Here, the much slower and lunging Arce was abused via sharp counter straight lefts and stinging uppercuts. Vic’s awkward punching angles confused Arce, who returned to his corner already cut by his right eye courtesy of the numerous bombs. In the 2nd, Darchinyan continued to bounce Arce around the ring with counter lefts. The repeated bombs made the normally aggressive Arce tentative to apply pressure.

At mid-range, the colorful Mexican remained a sitting duck and was stunned by a hard right jab, straight left combo to close out another dominant Darchinyan round. By the 3rd, Arce seemed to have finally found a rhythm. After starting off by absorbing more abuse from Darchinyan’s left hand, Arce broke through with several hard body shots followed a wild overhand hook to Vic’s head. The champion was briefly wobbled and stunned by the assault, causing a brief brawl to break out. However, the unified champ responded well via a neck snapping left uppercut and hook to the body, which backed off the game challenger.

Arce continued to apply pressure despite the danger of Darchinyan’s vicious counters. An errant left hook to the head wobbled Vic, who fired back with an uppercut to the solar plexus. Arce bravely tried to weather the storm to remain inside, but was badly hurt by another huge left uppercut. By the sixth, Arce still had not found a chance to mount a sustained offense on the inside, and continued to be dismantled on the outside with power shots. Darchinyan started the stanza with another powerful straight left that snapped back Arce’s head. Now a open book, the champion unleashed several counter right hooks and a lead uppercut. The near whitewash round was ended with another punishing straight left to Arce’s face.

For the next 3 rounds, Darchinyan continued the same merciless pounding of Arce, who could do nothing but show off a phenomenal chin as shot after shot rained in. Even when he appeared on the verge of going down, Arce would gamely hold on or charge forward to smother Darchinyan’ s debilitating offense. At the start of the 11th, a visibly dejected Arce was bleeding from cuts over his right eye, his ear, and one on the back of his head.

Seeking to close the show, Darchinyan strafed the hopeless challenger to the body with left hooks. Amazingly, Arce stubbornly continued coming forward despite receiving frightening 3 and 4 punch head-snapping combinations that staggered him around the ring. Now, there were audible murmurings from the crowd on if the outmatched Mexican could survive another beating in the final round. Before the 11th, the ringside physician took several looks at the battered Arce and decided the challenger had enough. With the emphatic win, Vic Darchinyan continues his rampage through the best of his division.

“He surprised me. I didn’t expect him to fight like he did. He’s tough and a good fighter,” Darchinyan admitted about the rival he’s disparaged for the last 3 years. “He proved to me that he was tough and a good fighter. I hit him with some good shots and he kept fighting back. I would have liked to have knocked him out cold. If the fight goes on, maybe I knock him out. But it’s ok the way it ended.”

While Darchinyan stated he would like to avenge his lone defeat to Nonito Donaire, his promoter Gary Shaw stated he would like to match his fighter against Fernando Montiel, or possibly Rafael Marquez or Israel Vazquez. For Jorge Arce, at press time the brave fighter has been hospitalized as a precautionary measure since he had trouble breathing and walking after the fight.

On the undercard, rising lightweight Antonio DeMarco (21-1-1, 15 KOs) broke down the tough Kid Diamond, aka Almazbek Raiymkulov, (27-2-1, 15 KOs) in a 9 round shootout. Diamond quit after suffering a broken nose and deep cuts in his mouth.

Joe Calzaghe Retires Undefeated

Light heavyweight champ Joe Calzaghe has ended the rumors on whether he would take the challenge of breaking Rocky Marciano’s record. This past weekend, the Welshman announced his retirement from professional boxing with an unblemished record of 46-0, 32 KOs. The Pride of Wales leaves the ring as a champion who reigned for over 10 years in the super-middleweight division.

After enduring criticisms for his lack of elite competition over the course of his career, Calzaghe finally started proving the naysayers wrong in 2006 with a master-class win over then heir apparent Jeff Lacy. From there, Calzaghe went on to rack up more legacy wins against undefeated Mikkel Kessler, Bernard Hopkins, and Roy Jones, Jr. Before the retirement, Calzaghe had one last potential challenger in Chad Dawson. Although the fight would be a great test and legacy enhancer for the Welshman, Calzaghe likely passed on it due to Dawson’s low-profile outside of hardcore fans.

Even without Dawson and a few missed fights for various reasons (Sven Ottke, Glen Johnson, Steve Collins), Calzaghe has more than proven his ability as an all-time great and as the most accomplished super-middleweight in boxing history. However, let’s not rule out Calzaghe-Dawson yet. Pending a spectacular showing from Bad Chad in his rematch with Antonio Tarver next month, Calzaghe may just have a change of heart.

Margarito Judgment Day Set for February 10

This Tuesday (February 10) Antonio Margarito and his trainer Javier Capetillo will face the California State Athletic Commission to answer charges of allegedly trying to use “plaster-like” material in the hand wraps for the January 28 bout against Shane Mosley. Both were immediately suspended following Margarito’s TKO loss, and the commission declined to comment further on the matter while the wraps were tested. Speculations from some sources have claimed that the testing will confirm that the wraps were used at least 15 times in previous bouts. If Margarito and Capetillo are found guilty, they should both be banned from boxing for life, in addition to facing criminal charges. In a sport that already requires fighters to endure inhuman punishment that will stay will them the rest of their lives, actions like this should not be accepted in any form or fashion. To date, Margarito maintains his innocence.

HBO Boxing After Dark February 14

This Saturday HBO is featuring a loaded tripleheader card for boxing fanatics. Lightweight champion Nate Campbell (32-5-1, 25 KOs) will defend his crown against the relatively unknown but dangerous Ali Funeka (30-1-2, 25 KOs). Funeka, who is freakishly tall (6’1) for a lightweight, will provide a good test for Campbell. Young destroyer Alfredo Angulo (14-0, 11 KOs) is still waiting for a confirmed opponent after Ricardo Mayorga pulled out last week over money issues. While it’s always fun to see Mayorga take a beating, Angulo should still be able to beat whomever HBO can scrap up for a last minute sub. At press time, the network rejected attempts to bring in Ishe Smith and has settled on Danny Perez (34-5, 17 KOs). Kermit Cintron (30-2, 27 KOs) seeks to make a name in the junior middleweight division when he faces fast-handed puncher Sergio Martinez (44-1-1, 24 KOs) for the WBC interim title. The card is set to begin at 10PM eastern time on February 14.

Throwback Fighter of the Week: Ingemar “Ingo” Johansson (1932-2009)

Affectionately known in his native Sweden as “Ingo,” Ingemar Johansson was one of the better heavyweight punchers of the late 50s and early 60s. Johansson began his career on a tear, racking up 14 knockouts in his first 21 bouts. Among those knockout victims were Top 10 contenders Henry Cooper and slickster Eddie Machen. This earned Johansson his first title shot against then champion Floyd Patterson in 1959. In a shocking upset, Johansson bombed out the champion with his lethal right hand in the 3rd.

Embarrassingly, Patterson was dropped 6 times in the round before the merciful stoppage. A year later, an uncharacteristically aggressive and angry Patterson enacted revenge on Ingo. This time, Patterson knocked the new champion cold with a memorable leaping left hook. The classic KO punch left Johansson out cold for 15 minutes, his left leg visibly twitching on film. Determined to regain the title, Johansson sought the sparring help of a then 18 year-old, loudmouth upstart named Cassius Clay. Clay’s help didn’t pay dividends in the deciding 1961 rubbermatch of the trilogy. Visibly out of shape, Johansson was still able to secure 2 knockdowns in the 1st round. But Patterson weathered the early storm and scored his own knockdown with his signature left hook.

Without the stamina to keep up his punch output, Johansson succumbed to Patterson’s combinations in the 6th. Johansson would fight 2 more years, winning all 3 of his fights, before retiring in 1963. He became a close friend of Floyd Patterson, and the two men would visit twice a year in each other’s native country. The former champ went on to remain active with boxing promotion, conventions, marathon running, and several Swedish films. By the late 90s, complications from Alzheimer’s and dementia confined the former champ from most of his extracurricular activities. On January 30, 2009, he died from pneumonia. Ingemar Johansson is a member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame, with a final record of 26-2, 17 KOs.

Does The Economy Have It Too Hot For “Ice?”

With the economy spiraling out of control, and unemployment rising at an alarming rate, people are tightening their belts everywhere to be wiser with their money.

The more well off are not immune to these times as most recently illustrated by the Bernie Madoff scandal which involved literally hundreds of rich and well off people being taken on a ponzi-fueled ride to financial crisis. One would think that Hip-Hop, which often reflects the world around it would also be affected.

In recent months we’ve seen a rise in chain snatchings and rappers being accosted, with Soulja Boy Tellem and Yung Berg being the most famous examples but not the only victims. In these trying times you wonder will we finally see the death of bling?

From the first golden era with legends like Slick Rick and Eric B. to the shiny suit era of Jesus pieces that “even got rocks in the beards and mustaches and “rocks on the stage looking like blue laser,” onto the Ca$h Money era of “Bling Bling” rappers have always rocked ostentatious and at times almost offensively decadent pieces of jewelry even during the hardest hitting economic times.

As recession becomes possible depression, how has that affected the bling? We asked Chris Hernandez (Jacob The Jeweler is presently indisposed), Director of Marketing at ItsHot.com for his observations regarding the current ice market.

AllHipHop.com: What are the current trends in jewelry buying? Between rappers and your regular customers, how has the market moved recently?

Chris Hernandez (ItsHot.com): In general even with sales and prices slashing, retail Jewelry sales are declining but the direct pricing market remains strong. When money is tight good customer service can make a difference in retaining your regular buyers.

AllHipHop.com: But what about the big pieces, like the Ghostface eagle bracelet, or the Terror squad iced out pendant? Have you seen a decline in the sale of the ridiculous pieces?

Ghostface: The Eagle Has Landed

Chris Hernandez (ItsHot.com): Surprisingly, large piece purchase sales remain about the same, but the consumer is more demanding that they get exactly what they want. They are paying more attention to what they are buying. There have been rumors on the streets that some of these chains are made with industrial diamonds and less than stellar quality materials, not to throw anyone under the bus. They are paying more attention to the quality now.

AllHipHop.com: Has the decline in sales involved moving to smaller pieces or just to less buying altogether?

Chris Hernandez (ItsHot.com): There are more purchases, but our average ticket price is down slightly. We’ve seen expansion into the less than $500 market.

AllHipHop.com: What do you see as the future trending in hip hop related jewelry?

Slick Rick: Ice King

Chris Hernandez (ItsHot.com): We see classier designs using better quality diamonds. No more pieces with a thousand wack gems that look crazy. Tight, well designed construction withwell-chosen jewels.Paul Wall: Still Smiling

Pharrell: Ice Ice, Baby!

Lil’ Wayne: What’s A Goon To A Goblin?LL Cool J: 4-Fingered Rings
