FAMU Students Protest Gucci Mane; Rapper To Miss Concert

Legal challenges have forced Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane to drop a highly anticipated performance at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) next weekend.

The controversial rapper was slated to headline the “Gucci Mane and Friends” concert, during FAMU’s homecoming on October 24.

According to sources, Gucci Mane was not allowed to travel to the concert due to the conditions of his house arrest.

He will appear in court next Monday (October 26) to answer allegations that he violated the terms of his probation.

Gucci Mane will be replaced by Plies, who is featured on a new track with Gucci titled “Wasted.”

They performed the track during the taping for The 2009 BET Hip-Hop Awards.

During the taping, host and comedian Mike Epps made continual references to Gucci Mane, joking that the rapper war a diamond studded ankle monitor.

Other performers on the bill for FAMU’s homecoming concert include Lil Webbie, Hurricane Chris, Ice Berg and Midget Mack from VH1’s reality show I Love New York.

Some students that attend FAMU voiced their dissatisfaction with Gucci Mane headlining the concert prior to the legal setback, which is preventing him from attending.

A meeting will take place tomorrow at 7:00 PM between FAMU students and alumni, to discuss future concerts and its participants.

The news comes as Gucci is scheduled to travel to Greensboro, North Carolina this weekend, where he will give a performance at North Carolina A&T University.

Last week, A&T officially dropped all backing for an upcoming homecoming concert featuring Gucci Mane after students protested his appearance.

Royce Da 5’9, Slum Village Headline Benefit Concert For Hex Murda

On Saturday, October 17, Detroit’s Hip-Hop community will come together to celebrate, honor and support one of their own.

Artists including Royce Da 5’9, Slum Village and Trick Trick are set to perform at the legendary St. Andrews Hall in a benefit concert billed the “F*ckin ‘Get Better Bro’ Benefit.”

Proceeds for the event, being held from 9pm to 2am, will go to Detroit mainstay Hex Murda to assist with medical bills and other expenses his family has incurred since the writer, manager and business man suffered a massive stroke last month.

“Hex is the bridge between a lot of different families,” said Royce Da 5’9. “He’s the reason why a lot of different families are not fighting with each other.”

News of Hex Murda’s condition spread quietly among friends and supports on Twitter, when the hashtag #weloveuhex began appearing in tweets, just hours after the outspoken Detroit elder statement had been joking online about the MTV Video Music Awards.

However, out of respect for his family’s privacy, details were not revealed until days later. Today, Hex Murda, who is a regular columinst for AllHipHop.com, remains hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of an area hospital.

Born Eugene Howell, Hex, who currently manages producer Black Milk and rapper Guilty Simpson, is considered one of the most important behind the scenes power brokers in the Detroit Hip-Hop community.

“He’s one of the reasons why Detroit is one unified front,” Royce continued. “That’s a big deal to us. So the whole city’s gonna rally behind him in a major way and do whatever we gotta do financially, physically, whatever we gotta do.”

The “F*cking Get Better Bro’ Benefit for Hex Murda will also feature performances by Black Milk, Guilty Simpson, Paradime, Fatt Father & Marv Won as the Fatt Killahz, Phat Kat, Danny Brown and DJ House Shoes.

Every person admitted to the venue will be required to pay the $10 cover. St. Andrew’s Hall is located at 431 E. Congress in Detroit.

AllHipHop ChartWatch: Platinum Sales & Bricks

The top 10 this week has the same amount of Hip Hop that it had on it last week.  Jay-Z’s eleventh studio album, The Blueprint 3, holds the number five

spot.  This week the Marcy MC managed to

move up one spot in the rank and sell another 64,000 copies of his latest disc.I

know she’s not totally Hip Hop but you can’t deny that the music has a heavy

influence on her albums.  Mariah Carey is

right behind Jay-Z with her 12th studio album, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel

She sells 53,000 copies of The Dream and Tricky Stewart produced disc

but takes a drop from the third spot to sixth.

Moving

above the top ten we have The Black Eyed Peas at the 23rd position.  Their latest album The E.N.D continues to

move units selling 25,000 copies this week.

Next

we come to Drake at the 30th spot with his mixtape-turned-album So Far Gone.  This is a rerelease of the mixtape released

almost a year earlier and containing five out of the original 18 songs. This

week Drake “Drizzy” Rogers manages to sell 19,000 more copies of the EP.  So far the Canadian MC has managed to sell a

little over 140,000 copies of an album that was already released and has less

than half the original songs.  If that’s

any indication of how his debut album will sell then it looks like

CashMoney/YoungMoney will have a good year.

            Kid

Cudi falls from 32 to 48 but still manages to sell 12,000 copies of his debut Man On The Moon: The End Of Day.  So far the G.O.O.D Music artist has sold over 150,000 copies of his first disc and has been pretty competitive on the charts. Fat Joe and Ghostface sold under 10,000 units. of Ghostface Killah’s Ghostdini: The Wizard Of Poetry In The Emerald City pushed 7,200. 73. Fat Joe Jealous Ones Still Envy 2 sold 8,300

Let’s

move on to “Dropping” and see if any of the artists are going to help Jay and

Mariah hold it down for Hip Hop next week.

Dropping

This Week

We

have a lot of duo and compilation albums coming from some well respected

individuals in Hip Hop this week.

First up in “Dropping” we

have members from a well known group that has worked with artist like Tupac,

Notorious B.I.G, Swizz Beatz, and Mariah Carey.

Bone-Ified appears to be mainly Bizzy Bone and Layzie Bone of Bone

Thugs-N-Harmony.  The new album, Thug Smoke Out, features the duo plus

two songs by Krayzie Bone.  I’m not sure

if this is official or not but I’m sure someone in the comment section will let

me know.  Any BTNH fans out there?

Next

up we have another duo consisting of Del Tha Funkee Homosapien & Tame

One.  The West Coast MC and the New

Jersey native get together to release Parallel

Uni-Verses.  Tame One has been a part

of the Artifacts and The Weathermen while Del has worked with everyone from Ice

Cube to the Gorillaz.  This album should

definitely be a display in lyricism from two well respected underground MC’s.

Keeping it underground we come

to D.I.T.C which is short for Diggin’ In The Crates.  The 90’s crew consisted of Showbiz & A.G. (Andre the Giant), Lord Finesse, Diamond D, Fat Joe, O.C., Buckwild, and the late great Big L.  Each one of these individuals has separately

gone on to achieve success in the rap game in some form or another, but in the nineties

they displayed their serious lyrical skill as a group.  Those that aren’t in the know

and want to hear some

of their favorite MC’s earlier works may want to pick up Rare and Unreleased, Vol.

II or Rare

Breaks: Stack Two.

Here’s another underground group

that had its debut in the nineties and has been making lyrical music ever

since.  People Under the Stairs returns

with their seventh studio album, Carried

Away.  The Los Angeles duo rap over hard

hitting underground production which should please any Hip Hop head…if you’re

into that sort of thing.  P.U.T.S is

usually a consistent group so you may want to give this album a shot.

R.A the Rugged Man has been

rapping since the mid nineties and is now releasing Legendary Classics, vol. 1

The Long Island MC is also an accomplished writer, contributing to books

and magazines directed at the Hip Hop audience.

This album is a collection of…legendary classics.  Get a sense of history and pick up a copy.

Moving back to the present we have

DJ Khaled and E-Class who drop DJ Khaled

and E-Class Present From the 305

The album features Billy Blue, Red Eyezz, Bizzle, Piccalo (ya’ll

remember when Tupac played Piccalo in that episode of A Different World?  This is

only the second time in life I have seen someone named Piccalo), and Flo Rida.  This should be a typical DJ Khaled/Florida

affair so if you’re into the sound then pick it up.

You may know him as Lil’

Sci’ but on this album he goes by John Robinson.  Sometime last year he made an album that was

entirely produce by MF Doom and now he returns with J. Rawls, an underground

producer best known for his work on Mos

Def and Talib Kweli are Blackstar

Together Rawls and Robinson are known as Jay Are (get it….J Rawls and J

Robinson…J Are…I like stuff like that..moving on) and are releasing a new album

The 1960’s Jazz Revolution Again.  The duo summarizes the album

as “an education of the past that is relevant to

our present times, while giving ode to a period that flourished in political

activism, progressive social movements, and cultural creativity.”  It’s always nice to see creative projects

like this so if you get a chance give it a listen.

Ruff Dog entertainment gets a mention this week for having

a….I believe I call it an interesting…album cover.  The

Package.  That’s it for them.

That’s it for Dropping This Week.  They are selling cd’s for five dollars at

places like Wal Mart and on Itunes.

That’s bootleg prices.  Go pick up

an album or two.

Em On DJ Hero: “Even the Biggest Fan Has Something New”

Fans of Jay-Z and Eminem fans will have the option of picking up a special Renegade version of the game when Activision’s newest music-play simulation game DJ Hero hits stores.

The special edition will include the standard game, a premium Renegade turntable controller and a hard shell turntable carrying case that converts into a performance-ready DJ stand.

But most exciting for fans of Hov and Em is the special 2-CD DJ Hero Renegade album, available exclusively as part of the game pack.

While neither disc features the track from Jay-Z’s 2001 Black Album from which DJ Hero Renegade Edition draws its name, the Jay-Z Disc features singles from each of his eleven solo releases, including “Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem),” “Izzo (H.O.V.A),” and “Roc Boys (And the Winner Is…).”

The 12-track disc also features “Jigga My N***a” from the 1999’s Ruff Ryder compilation Ryde or Die band Jay-Z’s hometown anthem “Brooklyn Go Hard” featuring Santigold. The DJ Hero Renegade album’s Jay-Z disc is the Roc Nation founder’s first “best of” CD. In selecting the music for his half of the project, Eminem took a bit of a different approach.

Of the twelve cuts included on the Eminem disc, only half have been previously released as part of an album: “Soldier” and “Say What You Say” from The Eminem Show, his first release under Shady Records; “Lose Yourself” and “Rabbit Run” from 2002’s 8 Mile soundtrack; the title track from Eminem Presents: The Re-Up, featuring 50 Cent; and “Lady” from Obie Trice’s 2003 debut Cheers.

“The tracks we put on this disc are mostly overlooked or rarer favorites of mine from all different parts of my career,” he explains. “I also put a brand new, unheard song on there so even the biggest fan has something new.”

Em will debut the new song “Taking My Ball,” this Friday (October 16) at 6:00pm on the All Out Show on his Sirius XM Radio channel, Shade45.

In May, Eminem announced that he would also release new tracks available as downloadable content for DJ Hero players before the end of the year.

“Jay-Z and Eminem are two of the biggest selling artists of the last decade and have influenced music, arts, entertainment, fashion and technology around the world,” commented Guitar Hero president and CEO Dan Rosensweig. “Their involvement with the game, especially the Renegade Edition and DJ Hero Renegade album, shows their commitment to being on the bleeding edge of entertainment.”

VH1 Celebrates Def Jam’s 25th

For the third consecutive year, actor/comedian Tracy Morgan served as the host of the sixth annual VH1 Hip-Hop Honors, which aired last night. The annual celebration was held at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) Howard Gilman Opera House in Brooklyn, New York last month. This year’s highly anticipated show celebrated the 25th anniversary of Def Jam Records, the imprint which most would say catapulted Hip-Hop.

Tons of celebrities came out to pay respect to Def Jam including Public

Enemy, Warren G, Kid Rock, Chris Rock, Eminem, Rick Ross, Fabolous,

Ludacris, DMX, Mary J. Blige, Redman, The Roots, Method Man, ONYXWale, KRS-One, the Gym Class Heroes’ Travis McCoy, Kid Rock, Jimmy Fallon, film/video director Brett Ratner, Trey Songz, Ja Rule and Scarface, among others.

In

front of a packed house and with DJ Jazzy Jeff on the one’s and two’s

Black Thought of the Roots and Eminem opened up the show with a tribute

to LL Cool J performing his hit “Rock the Bells.” In 1984 LL Cool J

became Def Jam’s flagship artist. He was the first rap artist to

accrue ten platinum-plus selling albums.

During

the course of evening video interviews of the pioneers of Def Jam were

broadcast featuring the likes of Russell Simmons, Rick Rubin, Lyor Cohen, Kevin Liles and

Julie Greenwald, who told stories reflecting on the label

since its inception.

Other

performances of the night included Scarface with “Guess Who’s Back” and Ludacris hit

the stage performing “Southern Hospitality,” representing for Def Jam

South. Redman and Method Man performed “Da Rockwilder,” Foxy Brown

made an appearance performing “I’ll Be Good” with Fabolous, who replaced Jay-Z.

The

Def Jam legacy transcends through many generations, and the new

generation of Hip-Hop and R&B also came out to pay homage. “Def Jam

has created legends, not only stars and superstars, but legends. I

would definitely say this award or honor is very well deserved and I’m

honored to be here,” Trey Songz told AllHipHop.com, who performed Nate Dogg’s part on

“Regulate” alongside rapper Warren G.

Rapper

Wale performed Kanye West‘s “Touch the sky” and he also reflected on

the importance of Def Jam. “First of all Krush Groove is one of my

favorite movies of all time, it’s synonymous with Hip-Hop. You got to

respect the company that’s for the artist, for the culture. They

haven’t bastardized the culture at all so you got to respect that,” he said.

Birthed

by Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin in 1984, Def Jam Records continues to

be a major player in the Hip-Hop industry today with a roster that

currently includes Young Jeezy, The Dream, Fabolous, and Ace Hood to

name a few.LL Cool J, Jay-Z and Kanye West were among some of artists that was noticeably missing from Def Jam’s 25th Honors celebration.

Jam Master Jay Documentary Added to New 50 Cent Album and Movie

50 Cent’s official return to music will highlight more than the rapper’s way on the mic.

AllHipHop.com has learned a new documentary on the late Jam Master Jay will be included with the rapper’s highly-anticipated album and accompanying DVD, both titled Before I Self Destruct.

The second DVD, titled Two Turntables and A Microphone: the Life and Death of Jam Master Jay, will offer a look inside the world of the Run DMC member, who was regarded as a mentor and friend of 50 Cent.

The G-Unit leader, who served as the executive producer of the 85-minute documentary, appears in the film along with rap moguls Russell Simmons and Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, among others.

Prior to his death, Jam Master Jay played an important role 50 Cent’s career.

The turntablist provided the rapper with his first taste of the music industry by signing him to JMJ Records in the late 1990s.

The signing ultimately paved the way for 50 Cent’s first official recording was an appearance on a 1998 album from the group Onyx that was produced by Jam Master Jay.

The pair continued to work together as Jam Master Jay produced 50 Cent’s first album, which was unreleased.

The addition of Two Turntables and A Microphone comes as fans await the release of Before I Self Destruct.

The rapper’s fourth studio effort follows 2007’s Curtis album, which spawned the Top 40 hits “I Get Money,” “Ayo Technology” and “Straight to the Bank.”

For his newest project, 50 Cent re-enlists the talents of Dr. Dre and Eminem, who also contributed to his official debut, Get Rich or Die Tryin.’

Evidence of the musical direction of Before I Self Destruct can be found on the Dr. Dre-produced single “OK, You’re Right” and “Baby by Me,” produced by Polow da Don.

Although Before I Self Destruct reintroduces 50 Cent’s musical persona to fans, the rapper will also showcase his acting ability with the Before I Self Destruct.

The original 90-minute film, which 50 Cent wrote, directed and starred, centers on an inner city youth raised by a hardworking single mother.

When his dream of becoming a basketball player fails to materialize, the young boy finds himself employed in a supermarket. After his mother is tragically gunned down, Clarence (played by 50 Cent) is consumed by revenge and takes up a life of crime in order to support his younger brother.

The Before I Self Destruct movie marks 50 Cent’s directorial debut. It is the latest in a string of films featuring the entertainer, who has appeared the semi-autobiographical feature Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ as well as Righteous Kill with big screen legends.

Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. In recent years, 50 Cent has found success in various business ventures surrounding literature, video games, clothing, footwear, beverages, personal care products, automotive and books.

The rapper’s latest page turner, The 50th Law, recently landed on the New York Times’ best sellers list. 50 Cent’s Before I Self Destruct album and movie is slated to hit stores November 23.

The DVD for Two Turntables And A Microphone: The Life And Death Of Jam Master Jay will be available with the release and first DVD for a limited time.

Wednesday Fashion Feature: Trend Alert – Double Denim

Whether you like it or not, one trend that is hot on the runways and streets this season is double denim.

Along with acid wash and bleach splattered denim, its another one from the seemingly never ending 80s.

William Rast Fall 2009

This trend definitely seems to be difficult to digest for many.

One blog, Fashionising.com, called it “a trend that shouldn’t”. One of the reasons they stated “you shouldn’t” is because it is dull. They referred to William Rast‘s collection fall 2009 collection, where denim jackets match up with the jeans of the same shade.

It seems the way to do it this time around is by combining clashing shades of denim – check it out:

Hip-Hop Rumors: Is Jay-Z Mad At VH1? Drakes New Girl? Slaughterhouse’s Real Sales!

DISCLAIMER:

All content within this section is pure rumor and generally have no factual info outside of what the streets have whispered in our ear. Read on.

THE DAILY TWO SENSE

Check out the new blog from Erick Sermon of EPMD, where he talks about the VH1 Hip-Hop Honors!

Email me your rumors, sightings and various stuff you may be hearing.

JAY-Z MAD AT VH1?

I have a source and that source knows what they are talking about. They are talking about Jay-Z and his relationship to VH1. That source tells me that Jay-Z has a bone to pick with VH1 for some reason or another. They didn’t know the actual reason. But, whatever the reason, Jay-Z refuses to do anything with them. I was under the impression that it was an issue with Def Jam or something, but it is not. Anyway, this scorn caused Jay to basically pull all of his talented cohorts like Kanye, Rihanna and Memphis Bleek! I mean, nobody from Roc-A-Fella was even there! That’s crazy!

SLAUGHTERHOUSE SALES…WHAT HAPPENED?

There have been so rumors surrounding the whole Slaugherhouse project. Remember how disappointed the internet was and how Hip-Hop was totally down on itself, because SH moved under 20,000 units? This is an example of what I was saying about Jay-Z and those damn numbers. Numbers can give a false impression. Why? From what I understand, 1) Slaughterhouse was selling through about 80% of all copies of their album were SHIPPED. 2) From what un understand, a lot of the album sold were actually promo copies and those won’t actually register with SoundScan. God willing they got the money from those sales.

DRAKE DATING CLASSY?

First I had to ask myself, “WTF is a CLASSY?” Did Drizzy go back to school? NO. I got a rumor that Drake is dating this girl:

So, here is the rest of the rumor from a female source of mind that saw this with her own two eyes.

So I’m in orlando a couple days ago shopping at Polo in the premiere shops and who do I see together??… Classy from Real Chance of love 2 and Drake along wit a kid. She looked amazing..looks way better than how she does on tv. So they’re shopping and the funniest thing happens. A Polo employee walks up to Classy and askes her if she watches the show cuz she looks like classy but better and while she denies it the kid that’s with them says “mom just tell him”…smh the lil boy looks like both drake and classy so that had me thinkin. Another crazy thing that happened was the Polo employee ask her for an autograph and did not pay drake any attention..I mean did he not know who drake was?? He was just looking at clothes with the kid and on top of that they didn’t even buy s###. DIDDY SAYS WHITNEY DISSED BOBBY!

Diddy says that he won’t get married, because of Whitney and Bobby…and crack. SMH…poor Cassie. I see where this is headed!

CHINO XL DISSES EVERYBODY AGAIN!

50 CENT VS. RIHANNA??

Looks like November 23 is going to be fun…50 Cent and Rihanna both plan to release highly anticipated albums that Monday.  This will be Rihanna’s first album since the Chris Brown incident.  Drake and Justin TImberlake are amongst some of the people rumored to have helped her this go around.  She has been out in Europe shooting for the album and was spotted in NYC the other day having dinner with Jay-Z, maybe getting some game time advice from the ex-boss???  50 on the other hand has kept us waiting all year for Before I Self Destruct and it’s finally ready.  He will be releasing the album along with a fictional hustler movie of the same title and another DVD, a documentary about his late mentor and hip hop icon Jam Master Jay.  Does this mean Detox is on deck???

When it comes to basketball, the NBA 2K series is tops.

For the last couple of seasons 2K has reigned king with little contest. Now celebrating its tenth anniversary, 2K Sports upgrades its core gameplay in an attempt of absolute dominance. While NBA 2K10 comes close to perfection, it is hampered by some nagging problems that hold it back from true greatness.

What has previously kept 2K atop the totem pole is its on court experience and this year’s installment doesn’t disappoint. First off the graphics are exceptional. The player models are realistic with ballers looking like the splitting image of their real life counterparts.

Even smaller details like visible sweat stains on jerseys and tattoo accuracy are covered. Superstar signatures are also nicely represented here from Shaquille’s awkward free throw launch to Lebron James’ pre-game talcum powder handclap shower.

Sonically the game is well rounded with chants of MVP bound to be heard when a star player has a great night. The beautiful presentation is heightened with what could be the best play by play in any sports title thus far.

Announcers Kevin Harlan and Clark Kellogg adjust their commentary depending on how your season unfolds. So if your team stunk it up the previous night, you’ll hear about it in your next game.

After the ball is tipped you get a true look at how impressive this game plays. The action is fluid from jump shot form to guys swimming around picks. Offensively this series has been pumped up with the addition of more plays and on the fly coaching. Previous complaints of an arcade feel have been addressed with the addition of a stamina bar; quelling any rampant abuse of fast breaks sprints.

A new feature that is sure to take engross the gaming community is the My Player mode.  My Player lets users create their own baller to any specifications. After building a player, you join the NBA summer league in hopes of getting picked up by a team. If not you get shipped to the development league where you can grow your player’s skills while waiting for that call from your agent. It’s not an easy mode but very rewarding once you really start to excel.

Unfortunately unacceptable technical issues do arise throughout regular gameplay. While the informational pop-up menus detailing up to date season stats add great depth to the game, they sometimes take way too long to disappear making it difficult to navigate throughout the court. Framerate also plays culprit with some noticeable slowdown during some high traffic breaks. Furthermore, the A.I. presents some wacky computer behavior with a great deal of backcourt violations, and bad time clock management.

All things considered though 2K10 is still impressive. This simulation presents the closest basketball experience without lacing up your hi-tops.

Erick Sermon’s Blog: The VH1 Hip-Hop Honors!

I do this for Hip Hop!

VH1 Hip Hop Honors celebrates 25 years

of Def Jam

I have yet to be officially invited to

the VH1 Hip Hop Honors. Yes, I know many of you are sitting there with

your mouths open and a cloud with a question mark over your heads wondering

how such an incredible oversight like this could ever happen, 5 years

in a row. Although I say that with a pompous amount of sarcasm I still

believe that EPMD is synonymous with Hip Hop- am I alone on this? Yet

the two times we’ve been included in this occasion, which is supposed

to honor those who have made great contributions to Hip Hop culture,

it has been at the request of other artists or by some strange turn

of events. This year, I spoke with a VH1 producer from the show who

told me that he “found a spot for me.” At the time, this remark

didn’t bother me that much because it was buffered with the rundown

of all the great people involved and a rumor that I had said I didn’t

want to be a part of the festivities. Of course no executives contacted

me directly to establish if this were true or not- so they took me off

the original schedule because of this so-called “rumor” they heard.

But that’s beside the point. I did this for Def Jam. I did this for

Hip Hop.

The show was set off with a non- Def

Jam artist, Eminem who did an amazing job performing LL Cool J’s

“Rock the Bells.” He set the bar for the performance levels

for the night. Most of us were able to keep up but unfortunately the

energy wavered as the evening progressed. I heard Jay was overseas and

L was in Cali taping NCIS so I understand they had prior obligations

but it would’ve been hot if they made it. All the executives from

Lyor Cohen to Rick Rubin to Russell Simmons were in attendance.

Def Jam was instrumental in both L and Jay’s careers so a celebration

to their 25 years of success didn’t feel right without them.

I’m still waiting for the day when

EPMD gets their respect! LOL! Yes, folks I know my internet acronyms.

Here’s my recap below

MVP: Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons

sitting Indian style reminiscing over the heydays of Def Jam

Best Performance:

Ludacris “Throw them Bowz”

Best Song Choice:

Redman and Method Man “Tha Rockwilder”

Best Rendition/Likeness:

Eminem “Rock the Bells”

Best Reunion: DMX and Ja Rule

peace-ing up before the night was through

WTF? of the Night:

Method Man and Mary J. Blige performed “All I Need”- one of Def

Jam’s biggest records and arguable one of the most popular Hip Hop

songs of all time. Shockingly after their set, the crowd reaction was

strangely delayed leaving an awkward silence with a few delayed claps

bellowing through the theater. I could actually hear people in the audience

asking “yo, where’s Jay-Z at?” and I was backstage!

Should’ve Beens:

Besides the obvious LL Cool J and Jay-Z not being there- the Beastie

Boys were missing, Slick Rick, 3rd Bass, Nice & Smooth,

Jadakiss…

Should’ve Dones: DMX should

have performed “What’s My Name?” Ja Rule should have started with

“Holla” and went into “Always On Time.” Scarface should’ve

rocked the crowd with “My Minds Playing Tricks on Me.” EPMD should

have had more time…LMAO

Signing off,

NFL Week 5 Wrap-up: T.O. for G.M?

This past weekend in the NFL was instrumental in giving us a glimpse into who are the potential teams to be reckoned with this season. Josh McDaniels and his undefeated Denver Broncos pulled out a gutty victory against his mentor Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots for starters. The student hardly ever beats the teacher the first time around. But thanks to Denver’s solid defense and the leadership of their QB, Kyle Orton, which lead his team on two scoring drives of over 90 yards, Josh pulled out his ‘Tiger Woods Fist Pump’ to a ecstatic home crowd.

Dear Brandon Marshall, if you really wanted to be traded from the now undefeated Broncos, all you had to do was pull a Braylon. It was simple. You could have gotten into an altercation with one of Carmello Anthony’s camp, being that you are in Denver, the way that Braylon “allegedly” brought work to one of Lebron James’ friends. Braylon Edwards was traded to the “Let’s Here It for” New York Jets the same week.

In the Jets loss last night to Mark Anthony’s Miami Dolphins, Braylon played huge under the bright lights with five catches for 64 yards and a touchdown. Braylon is known for playing big on Monday Nights. I wonder if it is because of the lighting. Makes it a lot better to see the ball, doesn’t it?

I understand that the player I am about to talk about is playing under relative obscurity and most likely under a self-inflicted gag order, but we need the old Terrell Owens back. If not us, the Bills need him back. And not for his on the field production either. Let me be the FIRST to say that I believe Terrell Owens would make a great General Manager. T.O. knows the game and he knows what it takes to win. A few years ago when he supposedly through Donovan McNabb under the bus by saying that the Eagles have a better chance of winning the Superbowl with Favre 4.0, you ask the Minnesota Vikings if they feel the same way about Favre 4.0. As for Donovan, an ex-Eagle stated that the starting QB was so sick during the Superbowl that another player had to step in and call the play.

Dallas fans, Terrell told you what was going on with your team and the QB that he shed a few tears for, Tony “Oh No” Romo. He told you not to blame Jessica Simpson for your QB’s efforts on the field. Terrell also told you that Tony was out there winging the ball to his Witten whether he was open or not. Terrell wasn’t going off on the sidelines just to hear himself speak. He knew something then that people are just beginning to find out now.

And Dallas, you are 3-2, with all of your wins coming to teams that haven’t won a game. A win is a win, but this spells a possible miss of the playoffs if “America’s Team” can’t turn around their fortunes. You tell me how Jerry Jones is going to feel when the only spectacle that graced his new stadium in the first year started with Jonas, and ended with Bros.

Buffalo, you are 1-4 with a list of season-ending injuries, an offensive line that is well, offensive and a star wide receiver with slimmed chances of catching a pass because of your offensive line. Let T.O. loose, not literally, just his mouth piece.

And to round up this wrap-up, the Tennessee Titans are 0-5. Tennessee, you were just stomping on towels and talking smack last season, and now, unless you go on an 11 game winning streak, you’ll have to throw one of those towels for the season. Next up, you will face a vengeful Patriots team. New England has played an undefeated team every week up to this point, and they just signed Junior Seau out of his Favre-like retirement. However, a win could be just what the Titan’s need to go on an epic streak. We’ll see what you got this weekend.

I need to hear from my NFL loyalists. How do you feel your team is holding up, and do you feel that your team is playoff bound?

More Weirdoes In Hip-Hop Please

I’m sure there are quite a few people that are going to disagree with me on this, but I am going all out.

There is a very big issue with Hip-Hop.

Not enough weirdos in the game to sustain the voyeurs and the Hip-Hop head itching for something that doesn’t look like it walked off the block.

We have enough “block stars” in rap to last us for the next million years or so. And, there is nothing inherently wrong with a rapper from the streets – nothing at all. Unless that rapper’s mind remains stuck on the block.

I’m not going to name names, but there are some highly skillful rap artists that have lost relevance like Cross Colours after gangsta rap. These rappers sound good, but after 5 or 10 years of saying the same thing, they no longer matter. They went the way of the dinosaurs.

Back to the weirdos.

I love weirdos and I am a self-proclaimed weirdo myself.

Weirdos are creative in a way that defies all convention and logic.

We study weirdos.

We look at weirdos.

We p### and poke at weirdos.

We cut them up to see what makes them tick.

We love weirdos.

We hate weirdos.

Why are we still talking about Andre 3000? I mean, seriously. Andre is a weirdo! The guy used to wear there craziest clothing and say the illest things and we miss it. Admit it. You miss the weirdo named Andre 3000. In theory, rappers have come and goes and come back and we’re still putting Andre in our Top 5 Dead or Alive. You favorite thug rapper emcee killer loves Three Stacks.

Lil’ Wayne has proclaimed himself the “Greatest Rapper Alive” for quite some time, but that’s not why we are enthralled by him. Wayne has been a marginal rapper since the 90’s. And, he cranked out a near-classic album on Carter II, but did that make him a superstar? NO. It wasn’t until Wayne turned into a weirdo did people (HIp-Hop and others) truly care about Lil Wayne. Even the whole kissing Baby was mystifying to people. I don’t see Hip-Hop – which is supposedly so homophobic – giving Wayne the heave-ho after that. Why? Dude is a freakin’ weirdo that you really can’t fully comprehend and therefore, he’s something to entertain you at no end.

That is what is all boils down too: entertainment.

Kanye’s last album, 808s & Heartbreak, was god-awful. It was terrible and still sold a gaggle of records and he became more interesting to the paps, the fans and even the haters. Honestly, I watched his first video about 300 times trying to figure out exactly what he was trying to say as an artist. I tried to understand why he broke the new single at that time on “Ellen.” And we have been trying to decode Kanye ever since. Hell, AllHipHop’s Staff has consistently wondered why we haven’t gotten an interview in years despite our unwavering support for Kanye (past and present), but that’s another story. He’s a freakin’ weird person! Who cares about that past stuff!

The point is, we can talk about Kanye on any given day and its most likely going to be interesting. People are going to be passionate, scornful, supportive, understanding or the opposite of each. They are going to feel something though and they will not be indifferent.

Think about a typical rapper these days.

On the real, dudes are getting shot and the public doesn’t bat an eye. A lot of them are spitting lyrics like crazy and nobody really…cares. Not about them, not about their life, their health, lyrics, family, well-being or anything. They are just there until the next write up on a weirdo comes around.

But, don’t take my previous examples of weirdoes and try to find some common thread or some pattern. There is none.

KRS-One is a weirdo! Dude said that Hip-Hop could be a new religion and he’s written a 900-page book about it. Who DOES THAT?

Look at Redman’s first three album covers! Weirdo!

Look at the creative genius of Q-Tip. Man, everything about him – from his beats to his rhymes to his dress – sceams weirdo! That’s why he’s still here.

Why are we dying for Lupe to come back with a new album called We Are Lasers? Come on, you already know!

Ol’ Dirty Bastard- Weirdo!

I mean, you can go back even farther to the founders of Hip-Hop that engaged in all sorts of crazy garb, crazy activities and crazy lyrics and look back with reverence.

There’s no shame in being a weirdo.

There is a shame in not pushing the culture and yourself forward in some way. There is a shame in not evolving. There is a shame is being an artist that is inherently boring as a human being. There is a shame in doing what everybody is doing just, because you are afraid…or keeping it real.

Well, if you see people getting bored with Hip-Hop and sick of it…you know why.

Not enough weirdoes.

SOME WEIRDOES!

Andre 3000

De La Soul In The Daisy Age

 Lil Wayne

Eminem and his Mexican wrestling mask

Redman’s Muddy Waters

 Cee-Lo as Darth Singer

Kanye Warhol
