THIS IS REAL: LIL WAYNE IMPERSONATOR NEEDED

This may be the foulest thing I ever saw in my LIFE!!!!!!! Peep this and tell me its not!

My son is turning 16 and really wanted Lil Wayne to perform for his birthday gala. Unfortunately his schedule will not permit him to make it. I need a Lil Wayne impersonator desperately.

Here is the kicker my son is blind so you do not need to look like the rapper just sound like him. I understand he grunts and mumbles a lot. I don’t care if you are 67 and Jewish if you can sing the songs you’re hired. Money is not an issue. Name your price. Interested individuals please let me know your rap experience, video of you performing as Lil Wayne would be better. If that is not feasible we can arrange for a live audition.

Serious inquiries only, this is very important to my family. Young Money Baby!

LAUREN LONDON IS HEATED AT LIL WAYNE!!!!

If you are a pimp, you have to respect Lil Wayne’s cold pimp game! Lauren London is about to have a kid and now so is Nivea. SMH. Here is a letter and in it, reveals something about Ms. London’s alleged state of mind:

I was told yesterday Lauren London was at lost for words today after finding out that her baby daddy was expecting another child yesterday. Lauren who is almost 6 months pregnant didn’t know anything about Nivea pregnancy, and found out online and was outraged. Like every other star these days, she took to her Twitter page to express how she felt. But after speaking to a family friend left the topic alone. She then decided to spend the day with her family and close friends. Lauren told her friends that she is worried if her career is over as a result of these issues. As we all know Lauren is on the pinnacle of Black Hollywood as the face of Sean John and reoccurring role in the remake of Beverly Hills 90210 on the CW. A reliable source stated that Wayne doesn’t want anything to do with Lauren.

Today Nivea called Ryan Cameron’s and confirmed that she is indeed pregnant with a boy. In fact, both of them are pregnant with Wayne’s sons. This is a really bad situation, considering that she is knocked up and the baby daddy is in love with someone else.

Lauren London can have any man in the world but she chooses to get with an engaged man… Is the recession effecting men too!!!! This makes Wayne about 4 babies up and 4 baby mamas down. I guess it is true about Wayne ” He can f*&^k any girl in this world”. Sidenote… I really like Lauren London, she is such a sweet and caring person. I hate to see this happen to her. I hope this is an eye opener and she’ll come back from this stronger than ever. P.S. Lauren hit me on twitter… [source]

FLO RIDA CANCELS CANADA?Maybe Flo Rida has never been to Canada! If he did, he wouldn’t have cancelled a recent show there with out telling them why. Actually, I am hearing that the little town of Salmon Arm, BC in Canada was supposed to have Flo Rida perform an all-ages show on TODAY (Monday June 15th) From the saddened fans, I’m gathering that no reason was offered for this one. Then, he was also supposed to do a gig  in Vancouver and then in Nanaimo, BC.  No good! Anyway, the show in Salmon Arm was nearly sold out….not enuff for the Flo Man!

MY DAILY TWO SENSE

PEACE to all the good people out there in the world. I know the world revolves off conflict, beef and whatever, but I had a great weekend with my family and friends. Very simple, very simple, but just what I needed after a long weekend. So, I just wanted to say WHAT’S UP!?! Anyway, this is my lite rumors. I’m getting up and will be adding more in a few! Thanks, fam!

DRAKE – AMBER SHOWS UP TO THE VIDEO Over the weekend, Drake was shooting the video for “Best I Ever Had” in Brooklyn, New York City. From what I understand, the club scene was one of the ones that was going down. Doesn’t ever video have to have a club scene? Anyway, from what I heard Amber Rose was over there at the video shoot. Oh, who am I fooling, here is the pic.

Kanye is directing the video as well, which is pretty much confirmed. Hopefully, Kid Cudi is still remembered from  ‘Ye.

Shout out to Yungfab!

WANDA AND SHENEHAH?

I have an interesting rumor for all your people that are fans of Martin Lawrence and Jamie Foxx. Well, fans, there is a rumor that Jamie Foxx and Martin Lawrence have shot a treatment/pilot for a Wanda/Shenehah sitcom! That would be totally bonkers for two comedic cross-dressers (not dissing). “You so crazy!”

SIGNS THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END

Craigslist is not to solicit crimes! But, that is just what a North Carolina husband did. He tried to use the list to find a man to find a man that would rape his own wife at their home. WHAT? OH and he found a person to do the deed. The 25-year-old Kannapolis man now stares at first-degree rape and other related charges. She was raped right there in their bedroom at knifepoint – as her husband watched. Police were suspicious of the mess after there were no signs of forced entry or break in. The crazy husband was jailed on $200,000 bond and they are still looking into the man that did the actually raping. What is wrong with people?

Knockout Nation: Cotto Escapes Clottey, Mayweather-Marquez Postponed, Klitschko

Cotto Wins Controversial Decision

With a gushing, cut eye and a determined foe walking him down nearly every round, Puerto Rico’s Miguel Cotto (34-1, 27 KOs) escaped Madison Square Garden Saturday night (June 13) with a disputed split decision win over Ghana’s Joshua Clottey (35-3, 20 KOs).

The Ghanaian asserted control in round one behind a stiff jab that repeatedly broke through Cotto’s guard. The Puerto Rican champion struggled to land any significant shots early, but hit bank as the round concluded with a short, counter jab that scored a balance knockdown on Clottey.

The challenger cursed himself for his mental mistake, knowing that the 10-8 round could possibly cost him a decision. In rounds two and three Clottey went to work, clipping Cotto constantly by doubling and occasionally tripling the left hook to the body and head. Cotto attempts to retaliate were unsuccessful, as he could not break Clottey’s guard even with short, flashy hook combinations. Further compounding Miguel’s problem was a hard accidental headbutt on the inside which opened a jagged, bleeding cut over his left eye.

By the 4th, Clottey was regularly utilizing the uppercut, the main punch that proved to be Cotto’s downfall in his sole loss to Antonio Margarito. As a confused Cotto continued to flurry at his challenger’s guard, Clottey would time him with chopping overhand rights on the bleeding eye. Another left uppercut from Clottey seemed to seal the round, but the Ghanaian allowed Cotto to flurry in the last 30 seconds which may have swung the card for judges swayed by the raucous Puerto Rican crowd.

Disaster nearly struck for Joshua Clottey in the fifth. After bloodying Cotto’s eye again and forcing him to retreat, Clottey was pushed hard to the canvas following an awkward corner tie-up. The challenger hit the canvas and immediately complained to the ref of knee damage. Aware that a retirement would result in a TKO loss, Clottey gingering walked off the injury but favored it the rest of the way. Despite this, the blood flow from Cotto’s eye prevented him from capitalizing, as this time Clottey flurried hard to close the stanza.

The six proved to a great comeback round for Cotto. Perhaps due to fatigue or the leg injury, Clottey surprisingly channeled Ali for his version of the rope a dope, and lay in the corner while Cotto unloaded an obscene amount of power shots to the head and body. Referee Arthur Mercante, Jr watched closely, since at times it appeared Clottey was being hurt by the punches. However, once Clottey’s face was visible it was apparent he was waiting for an opportunity to strike with counter shots. Once, he succeeded with a sneaky right that briefly stunned Cotto. However, the wounded champion had overwhelmingly outworked him with punch output to take the round.

Clottey took over again in rounds seven through nine, as Cotto’s bleeding eye made him a sitting duck for right hands. The champion’s attempts to run occasionally elicited scattered boos, but Cotto bravely kept throwing on the inside despite getting the worst of it. Clottey’s uppercuts and rights hands were visibly slowing down the cahmpion, and the crowd began to murmur nervously with Cotto in damage and demeanor reflecting the beaten warrior seen in the Margarito fight.

The tenth round was slow for both men, since Cotto took to running the majority of the round. Clottey’s bad leg prevented him from sustaining any prolonged pursuit, and Cotto effectively protected his eye with flickering punches before dancing away. Clottey’s attempt to steal the round in the last 30 seconds backfired when Cotto perfectly timed him with two counter left hooks. Clottey snickered at the shots, but the round was close enough to have gone either way on those last two punches.

The remaining championship rounds favored Cotto, who at least regularly threw punches while Clottey was content to follow him around. Although the majority of Cotto’s shots were being picked off, he controlled distance and prevented Clottey from enacting any type of significant offense to close the bout.

As expected, each man felt he did enough to win the decision after the final bell sounded. Still, their faces showed much concern with how the judges interpreted their performances. The final scorecards read 113-114, 115-112, and an absurd 116-111 for Cotto, who retained his WBO welterweight title.

“I just think I need to rest a little bit,” Cotto explained to HBO in his post-fight interview. “[After] nine weeks of training, I just want to rest a little bit. And then we can talk with the company [about who I should fight next].”

Clottey was disappointed in the verdict, and felt he was the victim of a hometown decision against a bigger, more viable star.

“I don’t expect this decision. I fought my heart out,” Clottey stated. “I’m chasing him, he’s running…So what does a guy have to do to win the fight? I won the fight. As soon as the decision went long [to score], I knew something was going to happen. I want a rematch.”

When questioned about his sudden low punch output in the later rounds, Clottey rationalized that he was being cautious of getting caught again for a flash knockdown.

“Cotto is a tough fighter, I have to take my time,” he stated. “He’s throwing one shot at a time, so I have to be careful when I’m coming in. So it’s not like I’m not throwing punches. Whatever he’s throwing to me I’m blocking.”

Although exciting, the fight was likely frustrating for fans of both men. In Cotto, we saw the same issues that have beleaguered him recent bouts such as bad defense when moving backwards (especially against uppercuts) and becoming somewhat shellshocked when faced with educated pressure. With Clottey, we again saw a lack of killer instinct down the stretch. A rematch is definitely warranted (I had Clottey winning), but likely won’t happen as their promoter Bob Arum is still fixated on pairing Cotto with Manny Pacquiao, in part to avoid having to work with Golden Boy for a Mayweather-Pacquiao megafight.

But with the damage Cotto took on Saturday, it’s unlikely he’ll be ready by October or November to face Pacquiao. And to his credit, Pacquiao has made it clear he wants Mayweather by the end of this year.

For Clottey, he’ll likely have to look at a fighter like Luis Collazo or Carlos Quintana to get his name back in the mix.

Mayweather-Marquez Off for July 18

The highly anticipated return of Floyd Mayweather Jr has been pushed back due to a rib injury the former champ sustained in training camp.

The unfortunate news was verified on Sunday (June 14) by Mayweather himself from his Las Vegas training headquarters.

“I am extremely disappointed that this fight has to be postponed,” Mayweather explained. “I was training very hard and looking forward to getting back in the ring on July 18th.”

Lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez was not happy with the news, but remained hopeful that his showdown with the six-time champion would come off soon.

“I was very disappointed to hear the news about the fight being postponed,” said Marquez in a statement from his Mexico training camp. “I will remain focused, in shape and ready to fight whenever the fight is rescheduled for.”

At press time, neither HBO nor the fighters could confirm a proposed reschedule date.

Hopefully, fans may win out and see this fight rescheduled for regular HBO instead of PPV.

Klitschko- Chagaev This Weekend

Due to challenger David Haye pulling out with a back injury, HBO has decided not to broadcast the heavyweight unification match between WBO and IBF champion Wladimir Klitschko, and WBA titleholder Ruslan Chagaev.

Many expect the new fight to be another mundane Klitschko title defense. However, David Haye will be in attendance in hopes of enticing either Vitali or Wladimir to face him.

Unfortunately, neither fight would come off this year if either Klitschko agrees. Wladimir is obligated to make a mandatory defense in September against Alexander Povetkin, while the WBC organization has scoffed at the notion of letting Vitali defend their belt against Haye.

With that said, David Haye represents the most lucrative fight for either brother in the 2009 heavyweight division. No other fight will give them much recognition outside of their native Germany, so I fully expect David Haye to eventually get his shot.

In the meantime, he’s made it known that he’s looking to get back in the ring by September. To further build his heavyweight credentials, he’ll need to seek out a “safe” name like a James Toney to build himself in the States. The press conferences alone would be classic.

Throwback Fight of the Week: Lennox Lewis vs. Andrew Golota (October 4, 1997)

In honor of Lennox Lewis’ recent induction into the Boxing Hall of Fame, we’ll take a look at one of the most dominant performances of his ring career.

In 1997, “Foul Pole” Andrew Golota was seen as the premier contender of the heavyweight division. He had effectively ended Riddick Bowe’s career as a top fighter 1996, courtesy of two prolonged, vicious beatings. But amazingly, Golota lost both fights simply because he could not stop landing low blows.

He would get a chance to prove his worth with a WBC title shot against Lennox Lewis. Many experts viewed this fight at 50-50 because of Lewis’ knockout loss in 1994 to Oliver McCall.

The fight itself was a massacre, as Golota froze in fear after tasting the power of Lewis’ right hand. Lewis easily blinded Golota with hard jabs before dropping him at the 2:00 mark with a combination of right and left hooks to the head.

Golota made it to his feet, but cowered in the corner before surrendering to the canvas after a series of right hands.

Lennox Lewis would go on to make 8 more defenses of the heavyweight title, and post wins over Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson, and Vitali Klitschkko before retiring in 2003 with a record of 41-2-1, 32 KOs.

Andrew Golota continues to fight to this day, but has never been able to overcome the best fighters of his resume, losing to Lennox Lewis, Mike Tyson, John Ruiz, Lamon Brewster, Michael Grant, and drawing with Chris Byrd. After losing a November 2008 fight against Ray Austin, Andrew Golota’s record is 41-7-1, 33 KOs.

The NBA Finals Finale

We have come to the end of another National Basketball Association season. And I will go on record to say that I will miss it. Will I miss the “Where Amazing Happens” commercials? Probably not, because it’s about time that the league spearheads a new marketing campaign. Will I miss the “Most Valuable Puppets” commercials starring Lebron James and Kobe Bryant? Probably not, because Lil’ Dez rapped in the last commercial, and I’m sorry to say it but, he killed 85% of the non-puppet rappers in the game. Finally, will I miss NBA Superstars that could hit wacky half court shots during practice but takes an Epic Fail in hitting clutch shots when it counts? Probably not, because I would hope that these superstars that are not fitting their fingers for jewelry this summer will realize that nobody has footage of Kobe taking any shots from half court and look what it got him.

The Los Angeles Lakers are the NBA World Champions for 2009 and I’ll man up to say that I didn’t predict it. My prediction of the Orlando Magic winning in 6 was beginning to look pretty good until inexperience showed up. Stan Van Gundy is a great coach. However, he is no Phil Jackson. The Zen Master would never had foiled team chemistry just to give a player, whether he earned it or not, game time in the NBA Finals. When Van Gundy inserted the NBA All-Star, Jameer Nelson on the court, sitting Rafer “Skip to my Lou” Alston on the bench for long periods of time, he took the air out of a team that learned to fight together over the past four months. The Magic fought back to beat the Sixers in the first round; fought back from being down 3-2 to eliminate the Celtics; handed walking papers to the “unstoppable” Cleveland Cavaliers, just to fall on their face to the Lakers?

Phil Jackson would have made it his dying wish to have his best or most clutch player, taking the last shot in regulation; not a rookie, not a career team hopper whom last name rhymes with peaches. Phil has won his tenth championship as a coach because he sticks to what works and adjusts on the fly better than any other coach in NBA history. And if you haven’t noticed, Phil wins championships in three’s. So if you know Phil and his on court general like I do, winning two more consecutive championships is a MUST, or this one won’t even count.

So Kobe Bryant will receive his fourth ring, and first as the leader of a team. Congrats on that. There are a lot of AHH loyalists that love the sound of that. I’d like to say that you are more than just the best player in the league; you are Phil Jackson’s #1 pupil. When you realized a few years back that you didn’t have a team that could win you a ring, you took it upon yourself to shake the boat until Jerry Buss got queezy. C’mon Kobe, we both know that you weren’t going to leave the Lakers. Why would you leave a team that needed a few tweaks, for a team that you’d have to start from ground level to make a contender? Really Kobe, really? I don’t know why anybody believed your mind games anyway. I saw right through them. The Black Mamba my a**… you are the Black Phil Jackson, that’s who you are.

NEWS JUST IN: The Cleveland Cavaliers are looking into making a trade to bring Shaquille O’Neal to Loserville. Extensive research brought me to the conclusion that Cleveland gets pretty cold and Shaq, better known for his warm city choices, might take the opportunity of extending his career, he just won’t be enthused by the trips in two feet of snow to the arena. Furthermore, you already have an All-Star center in Zydrunas Ilgauskas. And you should know that Shaq will not accept a bench role (i.e. Allen Iverson). Cleveland, I have already gone on record that what you NEED is a Power Forward, not the Big Shaqtus. Damn, if you are willing to make this move, maybe the writing is on the wall that Lebron will leave Cleveland in 2010. Where are the Knicks fans at? We haven’t heard from you all year!

What will you miss about this season? Has Trevor Ariza taken that position of ‘Kobe’s Sidekick’ that was handed to Lamar Odom? Will Lil’ Dez do a song with Drake?

Grand Hustle’s “Muscle” 8 Ball MJG Honored In Memphis

8Ball MJG was honored at the annual Urban Network Music-Entertainment & Marketing Summit in Memphis, Tennessee last Saturday.

The group, natives of Memphis, was elated.

“Just getting to be honored is a blessing. 8Ball MJG don’t get nothing,” 8 Ball told AllHipHop.com jokingly. “They finally gave us something, ” concurred MJG.

In a more serious manner, 8Ball said that the honor by The Urban Network was augmented, because they were honored in the presence of other Memphis greats such as Al Bell (former chairman & co-owner of Stax Records), Willie Mitchell (Grammy-winning producer for Al Green) and radio icon Bobby O’Jay.

“Them boys are pioneers. Just to be spoken in the same breath as those cats [is an honor.] Willie Mitchell is Stax Music. Did a lot for Memphis. MJG said, “Willie Mitchell is a cool mother f***er with a cool a** sound.”

Few groups have been as criminally overlooked as 8Ball MJG, but now that the group has been signed to T.I.’s Grand Hustle, they expect to see the recognition that recognizes their legend stature.

“We stay working, but 8Ball MJG, we’re [signed to] Grand Hustle now. The album will be out in October. Just [letting] all the haters know it’s for real. 8Ball MJG is now Grand ‘Muscle.'”

They admitted that they expected a more prosperous experience than they had during their brief, one album stint with Bad Boy Records.

“Its a totally different situation. I can’t describe it in all the ways, but time will tell,” 8Ball said.

The situation at Grand Hustle is distinctive as well now that T.I. is incarcerated for various infractions related to an attempt to purchase guns and silencers.

“[T.I.] hadn’t been making our records for us and he ain’t the one that Grand Hustle gotta market and promote. Its really up to [Jason] Geter [CEO of Grand Hustle] and the rest of the staff…and us,” 8Ball continued. “T.I. needs to take his ‘vacation’ and rest his mind and we got it.”

Various groups performed at the Urban Network gala, which attracted local Memphis acts including Kia Shine. Throughout the weekend, other acts like Pretty Ricky and West Coast rapper Spice1 performed as well.

Urban Network Group Inc. expanded the showcase to allow unsigned and independent artists to perform live for the music industry top execs.

Participants of the conference had the opportunity to join with decision makers in the industry to learn several layers of the industry. The company gave artists a symposium to present their creativity to the movers and shaker in the music world from major labels, publishers, distributors and others.

Motown’s Lamont Dozier Teaming With Rappers; Speaking In NYC

One of the architects of R&B and pop music is bringing his years of experience in the music business to help expand the Hip-Hop genre.

Legendary Motown producer/songwriter Lamont Dozier is planning to work with a number of rappers and producers on an upcoming project, he revealed exclusively to AllHipHop.com.

Dozier was first introduced to Hip-Hop through his two sons and later via rappers, who have sampled from his lengthy catalog.

“My attorneys told me over 150 of my songs had been sampled, bits and pieces here and there,” Lamont Dozier told AllHipHop.com. “They started showing the many people that had sample stuff of mine, Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Nas, Mary J. Blige, Faith Evans, 36 Mafia, Remy Ma, Big Pun, Notorious B.I.G., Tupac, Common, Just Blaze to name a few.…

“It’s flattering and I am glad,” Dozier said. “I started realizing there was an opportunity here for us to join forces, so I am going to be working with these people. And it started out because of the sampling.”

Dozier is a founding member of the hit making Holland-Dozier-Holland (H-D-H) Motown songwriting/production team, that has sold – literally – billions of records, since the late 1950’s.

He will be speaking at the 3rd Annual Master Class, which is presented by the Songwriters Hall of Fame Awards on June 16 in New York.

R&B historian/journalist Nelson George will moderate the Q&A session with Dozier.

H-D-H launched their careers at Motown, where they penned hits for The Supremes, The Four Tops, Martha Reeves & The Vandellas and others.

A split with Motown occurred in 1967 and the H-D-H collective formed the Hot Wax/Invictus labels and immediately scored hits on artists like Freda Payne, Chairmen of the Board, Dozier himself and others.

The Hot Wax/Invictus releases, as well as Dozier’s classic solo albums like Out Here On My Own and Black Bach, have been sampled throughout Hip-Hop’s history by countless producers.

On June 16, Dozier will speak and answer questions during the 3rd Annual Songwriters Hall of Fame Masters Class.

Dozier, who is a teacher the USC Thornton, said that he is looking forward to working with a new crop of artists.

“I really get excited when I hear songwriters that are good, have the passion to succeed and are in relentless pursuit of this thing,” said Dozier, who also turns 68 on June 16.

“In my classes, I talk about the passion that you must have. We are in a business where you deal with rejection everyday…but technology has always been the launching for a lot of historic stuff happening, from the day of the first atomic bomb, to the invention of the eight track. It’s limitless and there’s a lot of territory there we can all participate in.”

The Songwriters Hall of Fame Master Class takes place Tuesday (June 16) at 8:00 Pm at the Kaufman Center on West 67th Street.

At press time, there were no more details were available about Dozier’s upcoming album with rappers.

Check AllHipHop.com tomorrow (June 16) for the full Q&A with Lamont Dozier.

Juicy J: Hustle & Go

As one of founders and godfathers of the Memphis rap scene, Juicy J has been making the 808’s bump long before Kanye and tore the club up with crunk anthems many moons before Lil’ Jon. Yet, well over a decade into his career, Juicy is still proving to be a driving force in the Southern Hip-Hop movement, “ I was a little worried at first about sales with everything going digital now, but I realized that if you continue to create a certain level of quality music the people will buy it. It can’t just be one hot song on a 15 track album. That’s what separates 3 6 Mafia from the rest.”, says Juicy J from his home studio in Memphis.

With Juicy J’s second solo here, deemed Hustle till I Die, all the jitters and nervousness are things that the Juiceman’s all to accustom too. Getting his start by as a member of one of the most influential hip hops groups to rise from the United States’ southern regions, Three 6 Mafia helped set the blueprint that many of today’s “d-boys” and “trap boys” are using to rule Billboard charts. The group’s legacy may be represented by an Academy Award to the masses, but true Hip Hop Junkies and down south rap aficionados know that Juicy J and Three 6 Mafia are the dons of crunktastic Hip-Hop music. AllHipHop.com got a brief chance to chop it up with the Juiceman on short break from recording in his hometown.

AllHipHop.com: Your first single samples the O’Jay’s track “Darlin’ Darlin’ Baby”, for some it may be hard to grasp the idea of Juicy J and O’Jays together…

Juicy J: I’m just a fan of all old school music, man. All I do is stay in the studio all day making beats and playing with records and the O’Jays are one of my all time favorite groups, so I knew one day I had to flip one of their tracks, they’re just too pimpin’.

AllHipHop.com: Long time Three 6 Mafia fam Project Pat, and ATL’s current shining star Gucci Mane are also featured on the track, was it your idea to link up with Gucci?

Juicy J: Well, I talked to Gucci a couple days before he got out of jail and he told he wanted me to come down to ATL and produce some tracks for his album when he came home. And sure enough right when he got out, he flew me out and just vibed out in the studio for a few days. Man, Gucci is hard worker and knows exactly what he wants out of a track.

AllHipHop.com: Hustle till I Die is the title for your new solo album which is pretty self explanatory, and by now Three 6 Mafia fans know what to expect. What chapter is this in the Juiceman legacy?

Juicy J: This is classic album, man. I really out did myself with this album, I was completely focused and back to my roots in my hometown. It some of that old Three 6 Mafia, that you’re used to hearing. We’ve been putting out albums all the time on the independent tip. People may not always realize we are always working on the music, it never stops.

AllHipHop.com: Speaking of the independent game, the last Three 6 record was on a major. How’s every going with Hypnotize Minds in the digital area?

Juicy J: My album is still coming out on Hypnotize Minds and we’re still continuing on with business. Our marketing and promotion plans haven’t changed too much. A lot of times people forget that we been doin this independent game since the beginning. Straight cash in my pocket, I did a couple of straight to youtube videos and we hitting the road again.

AllHipHop.com: So it looks like it going to be a long summer ahead of you…

Juicy J: I’m going across country hitting every single bar, every strip club in the country. (laughs) That’s my promo tour! Man, I’m just going to stay working and having a good damn time while I’m at it.

AllHipHop.com: Also you’re brother Project Pat recently moved some respectable units independently, what position do you play in his career?

Juicy J: Man, I’m proud of that boy every day, he makes so proud and he’s actually a year older than me. I got his back 100%, growing up my momma always told us no matter yall boys have to stick together, no matter what.” We always together in this, side by side no matter whether it is in life or this music business. What I have is his and whatever he has is mine.

AllHipHop.com: It’s been about five years since the Academy Award and MTV reality show. Do you miss the limelight?

Juicy J: You just gotta keep hustling, everybody has ups and downs- that’s just life. We still doing our music and loving what we do, man. If one door ain’t open, I jus t find another one. Three 6 has always done what we wanted to do, we never been the type to wait for people to call us. This is our business, and that’s the making the music. Just give me a few shots of patron or goose, and point me to the studio (laughs). You just got to listen to this new album, I got Gucci Mane, Webbie, Gorilla Zoe, and this new artist out of Memphis who is hotter than a muthafucka right now named V Slash, so just go cop that and you won’t be disappointed.

Monday Fashion Feature: “Celeb Style: Chris Brown”

Most of the time you hear Chris Brown’s name lately, it’s still in regards to his drama involving ex-girlfriend Rihanna.

Chris Brown But we would like to take a quick breather from that situation and ask you what you think of his style game.

DiscussionsView Results

Most recently at Pleasure P’s album release party, wearing a G-shock watch.

Speaking of Rihanna, it seems like they both own their style now versus when they first came out on the scene.

Breezy a few years back

Their looks got a lot edgier – Rihanna with her wild black hair and haute couture wardrobe, and Chris with his many tattoos, recent mohawk hairdo, etc. He’s obviously into skate/street wear, being spotted in brands like Sabit and Money Clothing.

He cleans up when it comes to court dates and red carpet time, usually wearing suits with personality.

“F**k College; I’m about street knowledge,” a friend once said to me. I smiled, nodding approvingly, before adding: “I feel you, man..” We exchanged daps, unifying our indifference to higher education.. Soon after, the conversation dissolved into something less meaningful.

That was two years ago, at a lunch table. Today, things have considerably changed. While I still hold certain conspiratorial views concerning the influx of big businesses into the College field, I hesitate to discard the progressive possibilities of a College education.

For instance, conspiratorially speaking, I find it interesting that the Pell Grant, which many students believe to be government subsidies, are really financed by the high interest made from the same student loans they are being taxed at draconian rates—talk to me Sallie Mae!—for.

I might also have a problem with the increasing levels of racial segregation and class exclusion used to determine student enrollment; but I’m not yet resolved to bashing everything College-related.

In spite of my mild change of heart, reconciling the promises with the realities of College is a task I find daunting. We often hear of the goodness of a College education—“it will set you on the path to achieving your dreams”—but anyone aware of the great costs most Universities demand, and the lackluster values they promote, should understand why many Black and Brown students might share similar viewpoints.

Renowned educators Henry Giroux and Susan Giroux tackled, with great success, this contention in their seminal text, “Take Back Higher Education.”

“Since their appearance in the seventeenth and eighteenth century, American colleges followed the traditions established by Oxford, Cambridge, and the continental universities in the preparation of their overwhelmingly white male student body for law, ministry, medicine, and politics.” [Giroux, Henry; Giroux, Susan. Take Back Higher Education: Race, Youth, and the Crisis of Democracy in the Post-Civil Rights Era. New York: Palgrave

Macmillan, 2004 (1st ed.), p. 144.]

In “A Crisis of Affordability: How Our Public Colleges Are Turning into Gated Communities for the Wealthy” (Alternet, April 2009), Investigative Reporter, Andy Kroll, writes about the growing disparities in College affordability for Black and Brown students. He speaks of the drastic increase in tuition, nationally, as intentional. Big businesses, Andy argues, have no problem aiding and abetting the rich in reaching their goals of transforming Colleges into educational “gated communities”—reserved only for the privileged, elite, and powerful.

A great question was once asked: If there’s such a thing as “under-privileged,” why not, in like manner, “over-privileged?” The answer: Because those within the culture of power can’t afford the risk of being branded greedy—even though that’s essentially what they are.

Kroll justifies his contention with some grim statistics. Utilizing data issued by The Education Trust, he writes:

[S]tate flagship universities and a group of other major research universities spent $257 million in 2003 on financial aid for students from families earning more than $100,000 a year. Those same universities spent only $171 million on aid to students from families who made less than $20,000 a year. Similarly, between 1995 and 2003, according to the report, grant aid from the same public universities to students from families making $80,000 or more increased 533%, while grant aid to families making less than $40,000 increased only 120%.

At this, only a fool, or a greedy capitalist, would fail to connect the dots: There is an ongoing drive to strip low-income families, disproportionately Black and Brown, of the privileges a College education provides. These students are asked to rely on street knowledge, told to depend on the underground economy of drug paraphernalia, and expected to end up serving life sentences in the lower bunk of a prison cell. That’s the live designed, and set up, for them. And still, we—society—see no wrong in blaming them for falling into traps created before they could recite correctly the alphabets.

Anyone familiar with the prison system can attest that in no other places are there more geniuses, scholars, and orators than the penitentiaries. Many of them, lacking a High school diploma, go on to earn College credits while incarcerated—a testament to their intellectual discipline. They are the victims of capitalism let loose, run amok, and operated unchecked.

Of course, in any dialogue concerning the merits and benefits of a College degree, the impact of the current economic crisis must be addressed. With unemployment skyrocketing in communities of color, students with Bachelor’s can often be found working shifts at Burger King, with those earning their Master’s managing at McDonald’s, and even Ph.D.s confirming your Papa John’s Pineapple Pizza order.

This analysis isn’t meant to disparage the good that some Colleges do; rather, it is constructed to surrender a wake-up call to those whose hopes and dreams are forever invested in the piece of paper received after years of endless study in University libraries—an exercise only yielding disappointment in the long-run.

Depending on academic certification over intellectual exploration is a recipe for failure. There are no other ways to put it. The gifts of intellectual curiosity, critical reflection, self examination (introspection), and independent reasoning that start at the moment of conception (some medical scientists believe it comes long before that—when a fetus first hears the heartbeat of the mother), can provide far better guidance than a school curriculum, no matter how progressive, is able to.

The high costs of higher education nowadays should irrefutably validate this assertion. Colleges now charge students for just about anything—printing papers used for assignments given by Professors (employees of the school!)—without any moral justification.

The great 19th century scholar Henry David Thoreau addressed this crisis in more provoking terms:

I cannot but think that if only we had more true wisdom in these respects, not only less education would be needed, because, forsooth, more would already have been acquired, but the pecuniary expense of getting education would in a great measure vanish. … Those things for which the most money is demanded are never the things which the student most wants. [Thoreau, Henry David. Uncommon Learning: Thoreau on Education. New York: Mariner Books, 1999, p. 7-8.]

It’s unreasonable to believe that most students want the illusion of education without actually getting it, or that they prefer incredulous tuition costs over budgeted amounts, or that they are more comfortable being instructed by academics who share no connection to the backgrounds they come from. It’s unreasonable.

But tell that to the policy makers and shot callers; the folks at the helm of the education system. Tell that to the deans and chairs. Tell that to the chancellors and presidents. Those to whom the most power is given are those who, we’ve found that, abuse it egregiously. They are the ones who are in such a rush to cut funding for Black Studies, Native American Studies, Latin Studies, Asian Studies. They are the ones less concerned about the toll taken when Women’s Studies is axed, as being witnessed nationwide, in a push to preserve academic purity.

As long as students are disconnected from the decision-making process of school policies, student governments and other such structures would continually be exposed for the farces and props they are.

What College students, parents, progressive educators, Hip-Hop artists, and concerned parties must understand, is that the struggle to “take back,” as the Girouxs wrote, all pedagogical institutions isn’t limited to Colleges alone. The fight must expand to all layers of social engagement, and run through the conduits that connect and bind our world together. Acquiescence isn’t an option at this point. The future of the next generation depends, in great proportions, on the capacity of our actions. And, in truth, it’s the least they can ask for.

We must also come to understand that a quality College education is good, but awareness of the world in which one lives isn’t, and has never been, restricted to the walls of academia.

Lil Wayne’s Effort To Block Documentary Denied

Efforts to stop the inclusion and release of “private and sensitive” material for a documentary featuring Lil Wayne have been halted.

On Friday (June 12), California Superior Court Judge Michael Mink denied the Cash Money Records rapper’s motion to prevent Digerati (QD3 Entertainment) from releasing a documentary titled The Carter in its entirety.

Court records show Mink’s decision was based on the fact that evidence Wayne’s attorney’s used as the basis for the suit were not strong enough to justify the rapper’s allegations.

At the center of the suit are claims that, “Lil Wayne’s reputation and the value of his identity can be diminished by an unauthorized use of his image and persona, or by association with a movie or purported ‘authorized’ documentary that, in reality, does not meet with his approval and depicts him in a negative light and/or engaged in criminal conduct.”

Friday’s ruling marks the latest development in the case, as well as another setback for Lil Wayne regarding The Carter film.

In April, Digerati’s search for a distributor for the documentary was cleared after a preliminary injunction to halt The Carter’s release was also rejected.

The Carter was later screened at the Sundance Film Festival to an enthusiastic reception, despite a request from Lil Wayne’s management to cut certain scenes that showed what the suit deemed as a “scandalous portrayal” of the rapper without his approval.

Lil Wayne sued Digerati for breach of contract, fraud and invasion of privacy in light of accusations that The Carter’s producer, Quincy Jones III, failed to make good on a promise to give Lil Wayne approval of the final cut of the feature.

Besides the denial of the motion, Mink awarded sanctions against the New Orleans-based rap star and his attorneys in the amount of $5,000.

The money must be paid within 30 days.

Also, the rapper has been ordered to appear for deposition at the offices of Digerati’s attorneys in Los Angeles by no later than July 31.

At that time, the rapper will be asked to disclose details pertaining to scenes in The Carter documentary that he feels are harmful to his ongoing criminal cases.

Where Are They Now: Ms. Jade

Philadelphia rapper Ms. Jade hasn’t had major label backing since she left, producer Timbaland’s now defunct Beat Club roster, but she’s still the champ. Taken right off the stoop in after a chance meeting with Elektra Records A&R, Jay Brown, Jade jumped into the industry head first, and hasn’t looked back since. In 2001, she was first featured alongside Da Brat and Missy Elliot on “Slap! Slap! Slap!” off her platinum album, Miss E…So Addictive, which allowed fans to taste her aggressive charming lyrical prowess.

She was even able to stay standing with the release of her 2002 debut Girl Interrupted, which failed to garner her the credit she deserved as a street contender or an industry heavyweight. The North Philly femme fatale is holding her own, taking a rope-a-dope stance on her career as an independent artist focused on the mixtape circuit to drop wins like 2007’s “Million Dollar Baby” causing a stir around the web. Priming another mixtape material entitled I’m Not Dead and her sophomore album slated for release this fall, the Nicetown native wants to show everyone she packs a mean punch on the mic. In the legacy of female rap pioneers MC Lyte, Queen Latifah and Roxanne Shante, who Jade grew up listening to and emulating, she intends to protect her name and skills at all costs.

AllHipHop.com: When Girl Interrupted was released you had a stable of beats from Timabaland, guest spots from Jay-Z, Missy Elliott and Nate Dogg, yet it didn’t seem to leave a taste of your skills in people’s mouths. Did you consider that album successful?

Ms. Jade: No, not at all. Business-wise it wasn’t successful but for me when I came in the game, I wasn’t really focused or interested. I wasn’t even thinking about the numbers, I was just happy to be there. So once, you are put into a position where you have to think about all that stuff, it kind of leaves a different taste in my mouth, like right now. Back then, I just wasn’t thinking about it. But to me, right now I know that it wasn’t successful because I’ve been in the game for a minute and I know what it takes. But it got me where I needed to be. It got my name out there, I did make a little imprint, and I cranked the door open a little tiny bit.

AllHipHop.com: What do you think is the biggest reason that contributed to the downfall?

Ms. Jade: Basically, because it didn’t sell. People didn’t even know it came out. It’s like “oh, you had an album out?” and this was maybe a f***ing week after my album dropped. Nobody knew, so I think it wasn’t promoted how it was supposed to be.

AllHipHop.com: Also, when listening to Girl Interrupted it seems that you may have been conflicted between the commercial and street side. Do you feel that’s how the album turned out?

Ms. Jade: Yes, I really do. Especially since I was young, whatever Tim said to do I was doing it. Because I mean, who’s not going to listen to Tim? Who is not going to listen to a f***ing super producer? I didn’t have any control over my beats and I did not know at the time that I could say, “I don’t want this beat” or “I don’t want to do this song.” Because when I did do it, it was like this big commotion. They’re like “well we want you to do a radio song” and I’m like “I don’t necessarily think the song is hot.” But I was put in a situation when they say I have to do it, then I have to do it ¾ otherwise I won’t have any f***ing food. I tried my best to make it work. And I’m not mad at it, it’s just when I hear it I cringe because I know it’s not me.

AllHipHop.com: In retrospect, do you think there is a medium for you in between the varying styles on the album? Looking back on it, would you have taken more control?

“Especially since I was young, whatever Tim said to do, I was doing it. Because I mean, who’s not going to listen to Tim? Who is not going to listen to a f***ing super producer? I didn’t have any control over my beats and I did not know at the time that I could say, “I don’t want this beat”

-Ms. Jade

Ms. Jade: I think there is a medium for in between because you have to know who you are, especially in this business. You have to have a strong backbone. I think if you know who you are and if you know your s**t, then you know you can still be street and have your radio songs. But you don’t have to go the total opposite way of what you want.

AllHipHop.com: You’re talking about standing up for yourself a lot more now. You really did that when you got involved with the beef between Timbaland and Scott Storch back in 2007. You released a diss track “Beam Me Up, Scotty” about Scott, why did you jump into that beef between them in the first place?

Ms. Jade: The beef was for them, but I felt he was taking a jab at me. Like “ya’ll n##### ain’t as talented as us” that’s how I felt. I talked to Tim directly and he’s like “yeah, basically he’s talking about ya’ll.” So I’m like “Oh, alright well you know.” It wasn’t for any publicity, I’m just feeling like “Dang, Scott Storch I thought we were alright.” I mean who is did Tim have? Me, Bubba, and Tweet, there was nobody else really. So I didn’t just jump out the blue or anything like “let me take up for Tim, let me say something.” No, I don’t give a f**k about that but when you put me in it — I have a problem with that.

Ms. Jade – Bank Rolls

AllHiphop.com: Do you feel Beat Club had potential?

Ms. Jade: Of course, I know on my end and with Bubba, I think we have potential. I just feel like the leader had to be strong. You’ve got to see the situation. If you’re not going to see, it then how can we? You’ve got to be able to say if this doesn’t work then let us do something else. If your not willing to compromise, like we’re compromising, ain’t too much to be said about it. I don’t think I was a wack rapper, Bubba wasn’t wack. I might have been wrong time, wrong place, I don’t know, but I think we all were hot, I know that.

AllHipHop.com: Do you still talk to Tim or anybody from Beat Club?

Ms. Jade: No, I mean if I see Tim we might buff it up for a little while but I haven’t spoken to him in a couple of months, long time. There ain’t no beef, I just haven’t spoken to him.

Ms. Jade – “Big Head”

AllHipHop.com: How does that make you feel that before you were looking from the top down and now you’re looking from the bottom upward?

Ms. Jade: I feel like the underdog but I’m me. Nobody writes for me and I don’t need to stand on nobody’s shoulder. Its not any hard feelings, I asked to be released from the situation because our camp wasn’t where I needed to be. I don’t know what the problem was and why it didn’t work. I don’t have any hard feelings about Tim doing his thing now. I mean that’s what’s up, he’ll do his thing forever. I’ll see you when I get there.

“Nobody writes for me and I don’t need to stand on nobody’s shoulder. Its not any hard feelings, I asked to be released from the situation because our camp wasn’t where I needed to be. I don’t have any hard feelings about Tim doing his thing now.”

-Ms. Jade

AllHipHop.com: Since those days, Timbaland has definitely taken his style to new heights. Do you think there might be room for you to work with him in the future?

Ms. Jade: It’s a possibility, anything is possible. I mean I don’t have no beef with him. Tim’s all right with me, I never did anything to him and he never did anything to me.

AllHipHop.com: Recently, you’ve been doing a lot of work with DJ Drama and Don Cannon, like the first mixtape you dropped two years ago Million Dollar Baby. How did you feel about releasing that? Was that more the direction you wanted?

Ms. Jade: Yeah, I loved it. I’m grateful for having an album out, that’s an accomplishment. But I can listen to every song on my mixtape, I can really say, it’s all me. I’m proud of it because I think it was all me, the real me.

AllHipHop.com: You don’t have any reservations about doing this indie thing on your own without major label backing?

Ms. Jade: Only reservation I got is not being able to stay in those high a** hotels. I can’t do those anymore but that’s okay, I’ll get there. I just want people to hear my music and that’s it.

AllHipHop.com: What can you tell us about the new album? Do you have any set collabos planned yet? Do you have a possible release date?

Ms. Jade: I’m thinking about maybe sometime Fall 2009. As for collaborations, I want a few but not a whole bunch ¾ since I had like 13 people on my last album. I just feel like I got a lot more to say, I’m able to stand in my own two.
