Public Enemy On Board Coachella Festival
Famed rap group Public Enemy will be featured amongst a
stellar lineup during the three-day 10th Annual Coachella Valley Music &
Arts Festival
The event, which is being headlined by Beatles founder Sir Paul McCartney,
boasts hundreds of diverse acts during the festival, which takes place from
April 17 – 19th at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California.
Public Enemy will grace the stage on the event’s closing night, on April 19.
The Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival was founded in 1999 by Paul Tollett.
Over the years, the festival has featured rappers like The Beastie Boys, Gangstarr,
Souls of Mischief, Living Legends, Pharoah Monch and others.
I want people who go to Coachella to look back and say the years they’ve gone
to Coachella they’ve seen the freshest up-and-coming artists and music history
all at the same time, Tollett said.
Other acts slated to appear during the Coachellla music festival include The
Killers and The Cure.
Rappers People Under The Stairs (April 17), Peanut Butter Wolf (April 17) and
troubled singer Amy Winehouse, who will appear April 18.
I think this is her first appearance since she played Coachella [in 2007],
Tollett said adding: So much has happened since, I think that’s an incredible
one.”

Stars Support Andre Harrell After Heart Surgery
Thankful
for his health after extensive heart surgery, Hip-Hop/R&B mogul
Andre Harrell recently hosted a celebrity gala to celebrate his return
home.
The
party, held at Harrell’s New York property, featured such guests as
Mary J. Blige, Chris Rock, Jay-Z, and Warner Music chairman Lyor Cohen.
The
48-year old Harrell was hospitalized for an emergency quadruple heart
bypass procedure. The operation was conducted to prevent Harrell from
succumbing to coronary artery heart disease.
Andre
Harrell has been a fixture in the entertainment industry for over 20
years. He first gained success as a member of the early 80s rap duo Dr.
Jeckyll & Mr. Hyde.
The group spawned several successful singles in “Genius Rap,” “Fast Life,” and “AM/FM.”
After
disbanding, Harrell worked with Russell Simmons under his Rush
Communications imprint before founding Uptown Records in the late 80s.
Uptown
Records would leave Harrell his greatest musical legacy. The label is
responsible for starting the career of mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, who
during his time there was responsible for spearheading the signings of
Mary J. Blige and Jodeci.
In
addition, Harrell’s leadership made Uptown one of the top urban labels
of the early to mid 90s, with such acts as Guy, Heavy D, Christopher
Williams, Monifah, and Soul 4 Real.
According
to the New York Post, Sean Combs remained at the hospital throughout
Harrell’s operation until he was successfully moved to the recovery
room.
At press time, Harrell is still convalescing from his major surgery, and has not announced his next professional endeavors.

Recently the star of the movie “Notorious” Gravvy was in Philly hanging out. While in town he checked in with my homegirl, Kendra G (“Live with Kendra G” 100.3 The BEAT). Kendra G asked Gravvy had he heard all the rumors that have been surrounding his name recently on the internet and Gravvy replied and said, “No, I am not computer savvy!” We all know that was a lie, basically he was trying to avoid the inevitable question. Kendra G stated, “Well since you are not computer savvy let me inform you on what’s going on, there have been claims that you recently had a court date because of a situation concerning you and your wife.” Gravvy simple replied, “I don’t talk about my personal business!” I guess you have to respect that. He did his thing, I know it a lot of singers that can’t sing live, but he’s not 1 of them, the man can sing flat out. OAKLAND (KRON) The attorney representing a family in a wrongful death claim against BART is calling for the transit agencys police chief to be fired for circulating a memo telling officers how they can send money, food, books and personal mail to the former officer charged with murder.
Attorney John Burris says the Grant family is shocked and appalled by BART Police Chief Gary Gees message, adding that it contradicts statements by other BART officials and board members previously condemning Johannes Mehserles actions, It is unacceptable for the police chief, who ostensibly is investigating Mehserle and other officers to encourage offices to visit and make financial contributions to Mehserle.
22-year-old Oscar Grant was fatally shot in the back while lying face down at the Fruitvale BART station early New Years Day. Mehserle, who resigned from the force shortly after the shooting, has pled not guilty to the murder charge
BART announced on Thursday that they are ending their own internal affairs probe into the confrontation and are turning it over to an outside party. Officials are also looking into allegations against other officers involved in the incident on New Year’s morning at the Fruitvale station.
BART Director Joel Keller tells KRON 4’s Reggie Kumar the move is designed to bring public credibility back to BART. The shooting of Grant led to massive protests ending with Mehserle’s arrest for murder. The former officer is due in court Friday for a bail hearing.
BART hasn’t yet decided which outside agency will take over the internal affairs investigation. The Alameda County District Attorney’s office is also looking into the cases.
The agency is also reportedly planning to hire a national firm to take a look at the procedures BART police use in the field.

Jennifer Hudson Makes Comeback at SuperBowl
R&B/Soul singer Jennifer Hudson made her first public appearance Sunday (February 1) at the Super Bowl, since the tragedy that she endured when her mother, brother, and nephew were murdered last October.
Hudson was present to sing the national anthem. For weeks prior to Jennifer’s Super Bowl performance, rumors swirled about when Hudson would return to making public appearances, including a rumor that she was going to perform at the inauguration of President Barack Obama.
At last night’s Super Bowl performance Hudson stepped to the stage wearing a blue military style jacket reflecting patriotism and pride in the changes that are happening in this country as a result of Barack Obama’s presidency.
Though hurt was still present in Jennifer’s eyes, she performed with a sense of triumph, hitting every note with accuracy and pitch while fans, sparking a debate as to whether or not she topped Whitney Houstons amazing rendition during during 1991s Super Bowl XXV.
Fans, athletes, and heroes such as the crew from US Airways Flight 1549 – who landed a passenger airbus plane in the Hudson River last month – looked on in amazement and admiration.
Hudson is scheduled to perform at this year’s Grammy Award show on February 8, where she is nominated for four Grammy Awards.
She has also been nominated for seven NAACP Image Awards and is set to premiere a music video for her single “If This Isn’t Love” the day after the Grammy’s.
Williams Balfour is the prime suspect in the shooting deaths of Hudsons mother, Darnell Donerson, brother Jason Hudson and nephew Julian King.
Balfour, the estranged husband of Jennifer Hudsons sister, Julia Hudson, has pleaded not guilty to the crimes.
Snoop Dogg Coaches Youth Team To Victory
While millions of fans are tuning into tonight’s Super Bowl XLIII, rapper Snoop Dogg is celebrating his team’s youth’s football teams’ victory yesterday, in Tampa, Bay Florida.
A number of NFL legends were on hand to witness rapper Snoop Dogg’s annual Snoop Bowl VII yesterday (January 31).
In attendance were rivals coaches Snoop Dogg and former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Mike Alstott, as well NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders as well as Arizona Cardinals’ running back Edgerrin James.
Over 3,000 spectators filled the seats of Gaither High School’s stadium yesterday to witness Snoop’s Snoop’s Youth Football League (SYFL) All-Stars defeated Alstott’s locally assembled team 16-6.
The proceeds from The Snoop Bowl will be donated to local Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay, Florida, as well as the Children’s Cancer Center.
Snoop Dogg founded the Snoop Youth Football League in 2005, which coaches and mentors 2,000 at-risk kids from the Los Angeles area.
Erykah Badu & Jay Electronica Are Proud Parents Of Baby Girl
Rapper Jay Electronica and soul singer Erykah Badu are the new parents of a baby girl that was born on Feb. 1.
The rapper gave continued updates on his Twitter page, AllHipHop.com has learned.
Electronica said, Feb 1. 2009 my first child, my daughter was born at 1:30 pm exactly. Its the happiest day of my life.
Moments before the birth, Electronica said, I see the head. Full of hair.
Their relationship appears to be strong, but it hasnt been without controversy.
Earlier in 2008, Badu responded to critical fans that had views over the singer having another child by a rapper. The Dallas, TX native also has a child with Andre 3000 of Outkast, and another with The D.O.C., a legendary rapper closely affiliated with N.W.A. and Dr. Dre.
At the time, Badu stated:
“How date you disrespect the queendom…and my children and my intelligence. I’ve never been so disgusted in all of my life. I am a great mother and caregiver to my two children, and to this world. My children are two of the kindest and happiest people I have met … I am their doctor and their nurse, and even sometimes their mother and their father. I am an excellent mother and resent all of the negative comments and insults on my character.”
Still the pair’s loving ways have apparently prevailed. They even appeared on the February 2008 cover of URB magazine.
Clearly ecstatic, Jay Electronica commented, seemingly in jest, that he wanted to stream the birth on the internet.

RhymeFest Explains Charles Hamilton Diss
First of all, this whole thing between me and Chucky Cheese (Charles Hamilton) began last Halloween when I invited him on stage to a cipher for a show at Madison College where he was my opening act. He grabs the mic, turns to me and challenges me to a battle in front of my fans.
Then his guys come on stage with cameras trying to get a YouTube moment or something. He obviously didn’t understand the dynamite he was playing with. Long story short, I humiliated him.
Even though I KNEW at this point those tapes would NOT be released, y’all know me. No need to ruin his career so early. So to show that there were no hard feelings, I reached out to him the next day and asked if he would like to be on my El Che Manual mixtape. This offer was out of sheer ‘damn, Rhymefest is a cool a** ni**aness’. However, he declined. No hard feelings!
THEN…I see a video of him ethering himself, saying how him losing to me somehow equates him to Eminem. (Sidebar: Charles, I know Eminem. Trust me, you are NO Eminem). STILL I chilled.
Let’s fast forward to SOB’s. I was actually there to support my man Scram Jones and his group Two Face. I waited around for Chuck to grace the stage so I could see what was really up. The crowd had thinned out because they were there to see the earlier act. About 40 people were left in the venue, and I’m like WTF? Chucky comes on telling us all how he just left LA and the wonderful weather, and how New York sucks. I’m like OK…get to the raps n***a. He runs through about two songs before I start hearing light boos and seeing thumbs down from at least 15 of the 40 people in the crowd. This is NEW YORK n####!! You can’t hold your own city down?? I’m like man this s**t is wack so I head for the door.
No sooner than I left, I’m getting calls that he had my name in his mouth YET AGAIN!! As he was losing to another battle proven artist, he has the audacity to imply that he beat ME and now he’s going to beat Serius Jones! “Two old a** n***as that wanna come back and battle”. So as you can see, I’m not picking on Charles for no reason.

Aceyalone Preps Tribute To 60’s, 70’s Sounds
Freestyle Fellowship member Aceyalone has announced the second installment to his creative series of recordings that pay homage to various genres of music.
The upcoming album Aceyalone & The Lonely Ones pays tribute to Phil Spectors famed Wall of Sound recording technique, as well as the rappers various personal influences, including the sound of Doo-Wop, Blues and Funk.
The album is the follow up to 2007s Lightening Strikes, which paid homage to Aceyalones love for Jamaican music.
Aceyalonea and Bionil attempt to authentically recreate the sounds associated with each genre represented on the album.
A representative for the rapper described the album as having a full big-band sound .coupled with finger snaps, falsetto choruses and Rickenbacker guitar that is a look more towards Motown & the Wall of Sound than todays by-the-numbers beats.
The release was co-produced by Bionik, who also produced Lighting Strikes in its entirety.
Aceyalone & The Lonely Ones is due in stores March 31.
