Compton, California rapper The Game will make his debut in the Angolan capital of Luanda this weekend. According to the Angola Press, The Game landed in Luanda on Thursday, in preparation for two dates on Saturday (August 11) and Sunday (August 12). The rapper and an entourage of 12 will perform at the Atlantico Cinema during a concert produced by local promotion agency Casa Blanca. Omarion will also perform during the concert.
Legendary rapper Roxanne Shante is hosting “The Summer of 87” Concert at BB Kings in Manhattan tomorrow (August 11). The event, which is hosted by legendary DJ Mr. Magic, will feature music by Ralph McDaniels, of Hot 97/Video Music Box. In addition to a one-hour tribute to the “golden age of Hip-Hop music,” the evening will feature performances by a number of influential Hip-Hop recording artists, including fellow Juice Crew members MC Shan and Big Daddy Kane, Kurtis Blow, T La Rock and one time rivals, UTFO, who recorded the original version of the Hip-Hop classic, “Roxanne, Roxanne.” Doors open at 11:00 pm. Starting on Monday (August 13), a new chapter of R. Kelly’s Trapped in the Closet will debut on the Independent Film Channel’s (IFC) website. Chapters 1-12 are currently available on the site and a preview of Chapters 13-22 are also available. All 22 chapters will air on IFC’s cable channel as a feature film on September 7 at 9:00 PM IFC will air an exclusive interview with the R&B singer at 10:30 PM, immediately following the premiere of Trapped in the Closet. In related news, jury selection in R. Kelly’s child-pornography trial will start September 17 it was announced yesterday (August 10). Kelly , who is charged with 21 counts of child pornography for allegedly taping sexual acts with a girl thought to be as young as 13, faces 15 years in prison if convicted.
Childhood friends – turned authors Queen Pen and Alfred Adams Jr. recently embarked on a 30-city book tour, consisting of radio interviews, book signings and speaking engagements at juvenile detention centers and Boys & Girls Clubs. Queen Pen is promoting her two previous novels Situations and Blossom in addition to her upcoming book Infiltrator. Adams is promoting his second book, Till Death Do Us Part. The first leg of the tour will hit Atlanta and will feature appearances at various Walden Books, as well as several dates at local youth detention centers.
