Atlanta bred rapper and Boyz N Da Hood group member Gorilla Zoe is preparing to release his upcoming Block Entertainment debut titled Welcome to the Zoo.
The album features production by heavyweights like Jazze Pha, Sha Money XL, Drumma Boy and others.
“Back in the day, they called the city the concrete jungle because can get ate up out there, but its more restricted now,” Gorilla Zoe said of the album’s title. “The whole world is watching. We’re living like we’re [in] the damn zoo and we’re the animals being watched.”
Gorilla Zoe, who was recently added to the Boyz N Da Hood line up, has been featured on several mixtapes and can be heard on Yung Joc’s latest hit single “Coffee Shop.”
He rose to fame by working in an Atlanta Record shop, next to T.I.’s Grand Hustle and DJ Drama’s Apphilliates offices.
Through the studio, he linked up with local producer Chris Flame, who gave Zoe beats to rap over.
The demos were eventually passed to Block Entertainment founder Russell “Block” Spencer, who signed Gorilla Zoe in March 2007.
The debut single off the album is titled “Hood N**ga.”
“One of my favorite albums is Dr. Dre’s The Chronic,” Gorilla Zoe said. “That’s the kind of album I wanted to create. Something that can stand the test of time.”
Welcome to the Zoo features guest appearances by Bobby Brown and Akon and is scheduled to drop on September 25.
