UGK member Bun B. will give his first performance next Friday (February 8) since the death of group member Chad “Pimp C.” Butler.
According to the Houston Chronicle, Bun B., born Bernard Freeman, will perform a tribute concert to Pimp C. for friends and family members at Warehouse Live.
Pimp C. 33, was found dead in his Los Angeles hotel room on December 4, 2007.
No official cause of death has been listed and the LA County Coroner’s Office is still testing to find out how Pimp C. died.
“There are going to be some moments where we get a little sad,” Bun B. said. “We might shed a tear or two. But we’ll celebrate as well. We’re going to get that energy and keep this trill movement going.”
Fans of UGK still have a reason to celebrate, as Bun B. revealed that he is working on a new solo album titled II Trill.
II Trill is a commentary album that will address a number of political and social issues.
“It’s as easy for me to point the finger at the government as it is for the government to point the finger at me,” Bun B. continued. “Everybody has some kind of responsibility. I don’t mean as a rapper, I’m talking as a human being. We could all be doing better by the ‘hood.”
Most of the material on II Trill was recorded prior to Pimp C.’s death, although Bun B. is reworking the album and recording a tribute song to his partner.
