Chance the Rapper Turning Down Tens of Millions In Advances

(AllHipHop News) Chance the Rapper’s value has skyrocketed since he won three Grammy Awards last week, at the 59th Annual ceremony.

Chance is an unconventional artist without any record label backing and he still managed to beat a slew of established stars and won Best Rap Album, Best Rap Performance, and Best New Artist.

According to reports, every major record label is attempting to sign Chance and they are offering up huge advances.

“He’s making too much on his own,” a source told the New York Post. “He was turning down $5 million advances before, and now it’s like $10 million.”

While the rapper is allegedly in talks to possibly work with Apple, Chance is set on remaining independent.

Chance, who distributes most of his music for free, told Vanity Fair that he is not worried about his music.

He said that after his second mixtape, and meeting with three labels, he realized the best route for him was to offer up his work, with no limitations.

“I make money from touring and selling merchandise, and I honestly believe if you put effort into something and you execute properly, you don’t necessarily have to go through the traditional ways,” Chance said in an interview with Vanity Fair.

      1. He not making money if a label is looking to recoup 10M’s ……. look at the music climate right now …… there’s only a handful of artists doing numbers in hiphop that can stay afloat with a 10 million dollar tab

      2. you mean off of record sales no one is making money. but there’s merchandising, touring, etc. A label would book Chance at more venues internationally and even with the label recouping 10 mill his net profits would be higher w/a label than w/o one. Well, if it’s a good label at least. Im not saying it’s best to sign with a label, but being independent for the sake of being independent is a foolish concept to me. would you rather have 100% of 500k or 20% of 3 million?

      3. How many artists you know that’s doing it like he is right now strictly off of mixtapes?
He’s been on tours, magazine covers, commercials, met the president and won 2 grammys ……. and you think he needs to sign to a label …… dude, just stop…… smh

      4. I didnt say “need.” I said he probably should. do you read or just skim through sentences? let’s see how long he can stay relevant on his own.

      5. Bruh, you actually didn’t even say “probably should” ……. don’t hop in your feels tho lol, this ain’t that serious. All I’m saying is dude is cooking without a label and reaping 100% he’s a boss with a good team and his resume speaks for itself. He’s been grinding longer than some cats that’s been on majors, not to mention doing better than his peers who are on majors.

      6. again, what’s 100% of a million to 20% of tens of millions. siging to a major isnt a death sentence if you sign the right contract and is in a negotiating position. he is hot enough to negotiate a fair contract. he should definitely keep his mind opened on getting a deal IMO
