R&B crooner El DeBarge will spend more time incarcerated after appearing in court to answer a drug possession charge.
TMZ.com reports the singer was sentenced to two years in state prison on Tuesday (October 28).
The ruling comes on the heels of DeBarge’s arrest on Monday in Los Angeles.
The entertainer, who is best known as the former lead singer of the ‘80s group DeBarge, was charged with possession of a controlled substance.
Tuesday’s decision came after the judge in the case concluded that DeBarge violated his probation from a 2007 drug case.
The violation stemmed from the entertainer’s conduct, after authorities allegedly found him with crack cocaine earlier this month.
El Debarge is best known for the 1985 hit song “Rhythm of the Night” as well as recent collaborations with rappers such as Warren G. and DJ Quik.
El DeBarge immediately began his sentence after the hearing. He will serve his sentence at California State Prison in Lancaster.
