Ice Cube Initiates Federal Investigation Into NBA Over “Interference” With His Big3 League

Ice Cube has reportedly filed a federal lawsuit against the NBA. The N.W.A legend alleges the league has purposely interfered with Big3’s growth. According to TMZ Sports, the Justice Department is taking the complaint seriously and has been investigating the claims for months.

Earlier this year, Ice Cube and Big3 co-founder Jeff Kwatinetz accused the league of interfering with sponsorship deals, broadcasting negotiations with networks and implementing rules that restrict players from competing in the Big3, even though there are no overlapping seasons and they could play in other leagues.

Ice Cube’s lawyers say they believe the basketball brand has been “unfairly targeted by the NBA.” But Mike Bass, a spokesperson for the NBA, says that’s absolutely “not true.”

“We have been supportive of the Big3 since its inception, but we declined to invest,” he said.

Should the NBA be found guilty of any antitrust violations, it will be tasked by the U.S. Department of Justice and mandated to pay a hefty fine.

Despite Ice Cube’s concerns about NBA interference, the Big3 league is still growing, albeit at a slower pace.

“We’re thrilled to see this continued interest and growth as we start season six,” Ice Cube said. “It’s a testament to the highly competitive and entertaining product we put on the court each week. This season is the best yet.”
