(AllHipHop News) To Pimp A Butterfly is Kendrick Lamar’s first number one album, and now it is his second LP to reach gold status. TPAB moved approximately 63,000 equivalent units in its third week lifting its overall total pass the 500,000 mark.

K. Dot’s second major label studio LP opened with around 324,000/363,000 SPS album sales first week, and it added an additional 107,000/123,000 SPS the following week. When calculating “sales plus streaming” numbers, it now sits at close to 550,000 units.

To Pimp A Butterfly joins Good Kid, M.A.A.D City as the second gold release from Kendrick. GKMC went on to sell over 1.3 million copies.

As for other recent Hip Hop releases, Wale’s The Album About Nothing is expected to hit number one on the charts with 90,000/98,000 SPS. Ludacris’ Ludaversal is looking at 58,000/67,000 SPS.

With Kendrick holding the top spot for the previous two weeks and Wale scoring his second #1 LP, rap albums will sit at the pinnacle of the album chart for three consecutive weeks. That feat has not been accomplished since Kanye West’s Yeezus (1 week), Wale’s The Gifted (1 week), J. Cole’s Born Sinner (1 week), and Jay Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail (2 weeks) controlled the chart for five consecutive weeks in 2013.
