Killer Mike’s appearance at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards made headlines this week for several reasons. The Atlanta-raised recording artist scored major victories before law enforcement detained him on Sunday (February 4).
According to reports, Los Angeles Police Department officers handcuffed Killer Mike (born Michael Render) after he shoved a female security guard. The incident allegedly occurred when the “Scientists & Engineers” rapper tried to reenter a secure area at the Peacock Theater.
The Recording Academy presented numerous awards at the Peacock Theater while the main, televised ceremony took place in the Crypto.com Arena later that day. Killer Mike won three non-televised Grammys, including Best Rap Album for Michael.
The LAPD released a statement that read, “On Sunday, February 4th just after 4 pm a male adult was detained & handcuffed for a physical altercation that occurred at the 700 block of Chick Hearn Court.”
Local authorities charged Render with one count of misdemeanor battery. He was released without bail. On Monday (February 5), V-103 radio host Big Tigger questioned Killer Mike about what the Hip-Hop star referred to as a “speed bump” at the Grammys.
“I won a Grammy,” Mike responded when asked what happened that evening in LA. “We partied all night. Shout out to my record label, Loma Vista. Ain’t nothing had happened, man. But we’re winners. That’s it.”
