Lil Durk is delving deep into his past life on the streets, battles with drug addiction, lost friends and much more on his introspective new single, “Old Days.”
The Chicago native offers a raw insight into his personal growth and shares his yearning for peace in Chicago. “I wish I could stop the war/I really wanna live in peace,” he raps. He also reflects on his old life, the parts he misses and those he’s glad he left behind.
In the first verse, Lil Durk opens up about the death of his friend, frequent collaborator and fellow Chicago native King Von, who was fatally shot in November 2020. Days after Von’s death, a graphic photo of his autopsy surfaced online, allegedly leaked by a mortuary worker.
“The autopsy of Von body had me coughin’ up my vomit,” Lil Durk shares on “Old Days.”
Elsewhere on the track, Lil Durk admits that a past Percocet addiction led to him having a pacemaker fitted.
“I was takin’ so many pills, I was so high, I really abused it/Started sellin’ Percs, I turned around and started to use it,” he said. “Had to get a pacemaker/My heart was skippin’ deuces.”
In the song’s interlude, Lil Durk declares, “The streets over with,” adding, “It’s nothin’ left out here, bro.” He also sheds light on why he won’t use interviews to respond to any shots fired in his direction.
