After a near ten year hiatus, Brooklyn duo Heltak Skeltah have reunited and confirmed the completion of their third LP, entitled D.I.R.T.
Dubbed the “Twin Towers” of the talented Boot Camp Clik, Heltah Skeltah first gained national exposure with their debut Nocturnal in 1996.
The album was powered by the classic posse cut “Leflaur, Leflah Eshkoshka,” which charted on Billboard’s Top 100 Chart.
The additional singles “Operation Lock Down” and “Therapy” helped albums sales to over 250,000 copies.
The follow-up, 1998’s Magnum Force, did not fare as well sales-wise and led to a temporary breakup.
During the near ten year gap between the second and third LPs, both members carved out solo identities.
Sean Price received critical acclaim for his debut solo project Monkey Barz in 2005.
From there he went on to release Jesus Price Superstar (2007) and the Master P Mixtape (2007).
Battling serious legal problems, including attempted murder and pimp charges in January, Rock persevered and completed his first mixtape of original material entitled Shell Shock in 2008.
Despite the ample solo material between them, member Sean Price is adamant that their chemistry is still intact and the duo will maintain their signature Boot Camp formula.
“There’s only one way I know how to rhyme and that is to straight body the mic and verse,” Price exclaimed.
“We didn’t try to get cute with this album and pick some ‘out da box’ beats and get on some philosophy s**t. We did what we knew best and that was rhyme about the street, while of course infusing the humor that you know you’re going to get when you listen to our rhymes.”
D.I.R.T. will feature production from Marco Polo, ILL MIND, Black Milk and Sic Beats.
Guests MCs include Smif N Wessun, Buckshot, Ruste Juxx, and other Duck Down artists.
The lead single is “Everything Is Heltah Skeltah,” produced by ILL MIND.
D.I.R.T. becomes available September 30 on Duck Down Records.
