New Notorious B.I.G. & Tupac Based Thriller “Labyrinth” To Star Johnny Depp

JOHNNY DEPP TO PLAY RUSSELL POOLE’S IN NEW MOVIE ON TUPAC AND BIGGIE MURDERS

(AllHipHop News) Long time actor Johnny Depp is slated to play the lead role in the upcoming film “Labyrinth,” which is based on the true story of Los Angeles Detective Russell Poole and his role in investigating the deaths of Hip-Hop legends Tupac and the Notorious B.I.G.

The Hollywood Reporter indicates that Depp will play the role of Poole with the film to be directed by Brad Furman of Good Films, the company behind Bryan Cranston’s crime drama “The Infiltrator.”

Also, Christian Contreras wrote the screenplay for the film which is adapted from the Randall Sullivan penned book, Labyrinth: A Detective Investigates the Murders of Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G., the Implication of Death Row Records’ Suge Knight, and the Origins of the Los Angeles Police Scandal.

In addition, UTA and WME Global will be co-repping U.S. rights while Good Universe is set to handle international sales.

Detective Poole spent months investigating the murders of the Hip-Hop stars before he discovered that “gangsta cops in his own force were not only involved but were also tied to Death Row Records and the Bloods street gang.”

This eventually led to Poole entering into retirement early in protest.

Ironically, Russell Poole died of a heart attack in August of 2015 during a meeting about the murders at the L.A. County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting for the new thriller “Labyrinth” will begin later this year.
