(AllHipHop News) From the moment Beyoncé’s Lemonade visual presentation aired on HBO, viewers began to question if the Houston bred songstress was singing about a rocky relationship with her husband Jay Z. Turns out at least one song from the film/album is actually not about the superstar couple.
Ingrid Burley sat down with Genius to talk about the meaning behind the song she wrote for Lemonade. According to Burley, Beyoncé’s “Love Drought” was actually a complaint aimed at record label.
“Two of the people who were running the label at the time had lied to me and told me Beyoncé wasn’t currently listening to any new music. Then I got to her studio for a writing camp. Literally four days later, they started playing me music,” stated Burley. “They just told me she wasn’t listening to any new music which doesn’t even sound right. I was so p#####.”
Bey’s longtime associate then wrote “Love Drought” as a way to vent over feeling like the label did not respect her talents. The hook to the song is about Burley’s relationship with music.
