Rapper turned singer T-Pain’s “Can’t Believe It” may have proven to be an effective single with Lil Wayne, but the entertainer is hoping to gain more life out of the song with a Justin Timberlake-assisted remix.
The former ‘NSYNC member’s contribution to the reworked version of “Can’t Believe It” came as a pleasant surprise for T-Pain, whose recent meeting with Timberlake resulted in mutual admiration and a productive session among the popular artists.
“Justin and I met about six months ago. I was working on the album in a Miami studio and he was in the room next door,” T-Pain shared. “He came by, I played him a few tracks and afterward he said that, out of all my song, ‘Can’t Believe It’ was his favorite. I was shocked. Fast-forward to this week and I got a call saying Justin had hopped on ‘Can’t Believe It.'”
“Can’t” Believe It” is the lead single from T-Pain’s latest album THR33 RINGZ.
Since its debut, the original version of the song has sold more than a half-million digital copies in nine weeks and hit No. 1 at Urban radio.
The album’s follow-up single, the Ludacris-assisted “Chopped & Screwed,” is set to continue T-Pain’s hitmaking streak as it garners its own success.
Featuring guest appearances from Chris Brown, TI, Mary J. Blige, Kanye West, Ciara and Akon, THR33 RINGZ is the follow up to the vocalist’s 2007 album Epiphany.
The release, which sold about 171,126 copies in its first week to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, spawned the hit singles, “Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin’)” featuring Yung Joc and “Bartender” featuring Akon.
As listeners enjoy the “Can’t Believe It” remix, T-Pain remained humble about working with Timberlake.
“This is an artist who rarely does remixes, and out of every hot record out there, [he] chose to hop on mine,” the Florida-based singer songwriter stated. “That’s some real amazing s**t. I immediately called and thanked him.”
Look for T-Pain’s upcoming performance of “Chopped & Screwed” when he appears on Saturday Night Live on Nov. 22.
