(AllHipHop News) Iconic Philadephia hip-hop band the Roots will be honored on South Street in Philadelphia with a mural, which is set to be completed in July of 2012.
The mural will be located next to a place where Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter and Amir “?uestlove” Thompson honed their skills on their way to become multi-platinum and Grammy award winning artists.
The group, which is the house band on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” on NBC, will be recreated by a yet to be named artist, as the Mural Arts website is leaving the task open to the public and is accepting ideas and suggestions.
While the formal announcement will be be made later this month, The City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program plans to include multimedia elements such as video, online interaction, on-site activation, with city-wide involvement through paint days, pop up studios, a curriculum for a youth arts component called “Roots 101.”
Recently the Roots announced that they will be releasing a new project called undun that is slated to drop on December 6.
The first single titled “Make My” featuring Big K.R.I.T., became available on iTunes on November 1.
