VH1 Hip-Hop Honors’ 2008 host Tracy Morgan is set to produce and star in Freshman Roommates, a new comedy film for Paramount Pictures.
The plot was inspired by the various spam/scam emails sent by individuals claiming to be a Nigerian prince seeking help accessing a lucrative inheritance.
After a drunken young man responds to one of the emails as a joke, the son of a deposed African dictator [played by Morgan] actually shows up looking for the promised inheritance help.
Freshman Roommates again brings Morgan together with 30 Rock executive producer David Miner, who will retain the same title for the film.
Tracy Morgan will produce the film under his newly formed Street Life company.
Also starring in the film is TJ Miller, best known to movie-goers for his appearance in the blockbuster Cloverfield, the first movie of 2008 to gross $100 million.
In October, Tracy Morgan hosted his fourth consecutive VH1 Hip-Hop Honors award show.
The honorees included Too $hort, Naughty By Nature, De La Soul, Slick Rick, Cypress Hill, and the late Isaac Hayes.
In addition, Morgan is the featured host of Sci-Fi’s prank show Scare Tactics.
At press time, Tracy Morgan’s Freshman Roommates does not have a release date.
