(AllHipHop News) Reclusive soul singer D’Angelo is laying the foundation for a long-awaited return to music as he embarks on a European tour.
The entertainer will travel overseas to kick off the outing in Stockholm on January 26. Other stops include Copenhagen on January 27, Paris on January 29, and Amsterdam on January 30 and 31. The tour wraps up in London on February 3.
News of the trek comes as D’Angelo puts the finishing touches on the follow-up to his sophomore opus, Voodoo. The album, released in 2000, featured the hit singles “Devil’s Pie,” “Left and Right” feat. Redman and Method Man, and “Untitled (How Does It Feel).”
When asked about the status of D’Angelo’s forthcoming opus, longtime collaborator/Roots drummer ?uestlove mentioned that his friend is in the “home-stretch” of recording the album.
“I’m on his record as well,” ?uestlove shared with Billboard.com’s The Juice. “He’s in the home-stretch right now. I know that Fred Wesley and the JB Horns just did a cut that Q-Tip did; I know he’s doing his vocals right now.”
The update reinforces similar statements made last month from ?uestlove, who told Pitchfork.com that “the album is pretty much 97 percent done.
“He’s just finishing his lyrics now. He needs somebody to smack him and take the record away from him, because it’s pretty much finished,” he added.
D’Angelo’s return to making music marks a turn away from headlines generated over the past few years, centering on his encounters with the law. On Monday (January 2), fans were left wondering as a demo track from the vocalist hit the Internet. According to ?uestlove, the Alternative rock tune, a cover of the 1992 Soundgarden hit, “Black Hole Sun,” will not appear on D’Angelo’s third album, as it was made more than five years ago and not leaked according to ?uestlove.
“@Spencer_Murphy my statement on Black Hole Sun: its a demo from like 8 yrs ago done in his crib in Va. Its NOT on the album (I did NOT leak),” the Roots musician tweeted.
