Boosie Badazz has unveiled the album art to his first album since his prison release, Touchdown 2 Cause Hell, which drops in February of 2015 but he isn’t stopping there. Besides the album, the Baton Rouge rapper is also dropping a documentary of the same name that depicts his life and family struggles before and after his five-year prison sentence. The release and bad execution of Lifetime’s Aaliyah movie set many people off, including her longtime friend and collaborator Timbaland. He stopped by the Breakfast Club to expand on his views of the movie and set the record straight on some of the things in the film that were not true. The Virginia native also spoke about his new artist Tink, who he says saved his life.
How He And Missy Really Met Aaliyah
“She told her uncle Barry Hankerson. My lawyer at the time, Louise West, sent her a demo of the song called “Sugar and Spice.” She liked the track but she didn’t like the lyrics because she was older at the time and then said can I work with them because it’s something about them I like. Then we went down to Detroit and that’s when it all started.”
What He Liked About The Aaliyah Movie
“The good thing about that movie is [that] it brought up awareness of what we have done and a feeling that we don’t have today. You go back and listen to Aaliyah’s music and it makes you realize what today’s music is.”

To promote his short film and accompanying soundtrack for Blame It On The Streets, YG stopped by Hot 97’s Ebro in the Morning.
Similar to films Murder Was the Case and Jay Z’s Streets Is Watching, the west coast emcee says that the movie is based off of two tracks from his My Krazy Life album, “BPT” and “Meet The Flockers,” and will give people a front row seat to what life is like on the streets of Bompton.
“Some people think that my people [are] just ignorant for no reason,” said the 24-year-old. “The movie is just showing the people how s**t happens.”
Many fans of Aaliyah Dana Haughton had been waiting over a decade to see the R&B singer’s life depicted in a motion picture. The Lifetime network’s attempt at making an Aaliyah biopic fell flat with many viewers which led to a social media torrent of critical tweets and memes lambasting the production and the movie’s executive producer Wendy Williams.

Aaliyah Helped Create A New Union Between Hip Hop & R&B
It is understandable why Aaliyah is often referred to as “The Princess Of Hip Hop & R&B.” There’s a very defined fault line between what Rhythm & Blues music sounded like before Aaliyah’s second album and what it sounded like afterward. 1996’s One In A Million hit the musical scene like an atom bomb.
The syncopated drum patterns and the melding of Hip Hop production with soft vocals was a fresh approach from the New Jack Swing tunes and power ballads that dominated early 1990’s R&B. What was seen as avant-garde artistry in the mid 90’s eventually became the conventional design for hit records by the turn of the century. The genre has never been the same thanks to One In A Million.
Aaliyah Co-Signed Two Relative Unknown Artists Named Timbaland and Missy Elliott
Aaliyah’s One In A Million could not have been possible if it was not for two unheralded musicians out of Virginia. Producer Timbaland and songwriter Missy Elliott initially collaborated with R&B group Jodeci, but it was Timbo & Miss E’s efforts on Aaliyah’s sophomore album that transformed them into the go-to production team for everyone in the business.
If Aaliyah had not taken a chance on Timbaland and Missy, there is no guarantee that future projects by Usher, Jay Z, Nas, Ludacris, Justin Timberlake, and numerous others would have gotten the signature Da Bassment crew sound that has taken over the airwaves for two decades. Add in the fact that Baby Girl also embraced the early work of the late Static Major, and it is clear her musical family tree includes some of the most accomplished production minds of the last twenty years.
Aaliyah Brought A New Sense Of Fashion
Aaliyah famously described her style as “Street But Sweet.” Like Mary J. Blige and TLC before her, Aaliyah was not afraid to incorporate Hip Hop streetwear into her brand. She was able to break out from the pack by bringing an edgy appeal mixed with sexiness, but she pulled off that feat without crossing over into being overtly sexual.
The most recognizable image of the Brooklyn-born, Detroit-bred songstress was of her ebony bang covering her left eye. Aaliyah’s trendy fashion sense landed her an endorsement deal with Tommy Hilfiger in 1998. At one point her public persona became virtually synonymous with Hilfiger’s red, white, and blue palette.
Aaliyah Became The Blueprint For Future Female Performers
Aaliyah only released three studio albums during her life, but that was enough to leave such a large mark on the game that almost every R&B singer to come after her drew inspiration from the starlet. It’s hard to look at/listen to Rihanna, Ciara, Ashanti, Tweet, Cassie, Amerie, Jhene Aiko, Sevyn Streeter, Rita Ora, Tinashe and others and not see pieces of Aaliyah in them. Whether it’s CiCi’s dance moves, RiRi’s dark side aesthetic, or Tinashe’s silky singing, the Aaliyah element runs deeply through today’s biggest urban vocalists.
Even pop performers seemed to have been inspired by what Aaliyah brought to the table. It’s probably not a coincidence Britney Spears’ 2001 MTV Video Music Awards performance of “I’m A Slave 4 U” featuring Brit dancing with a python came just months after Aaliyah’s video for “We Need A Resolution” guest starred a large snake as well.
Aaliyah Influenced A Generation Of Hip Hop Stars
Aaliyah’s influence on later acts didn’t just include the women of R&B and Pop. This generation of male rappers have openly expressed their appreciation for Baby Girl too. The most well-known Aaliyah stan is perhaps Drake. The OVO front man’s approach to melody is an obvious homage to the “Rock The Boat” singer, and he even went as far as getting a tattoo of his muse on his back. Drizzy also used Aaliyah’s voice on Thank Me Later‘s “Unforgettable.”
Besides Drake, Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole have demonstrated their love for the late entertainer as well. Kendrick’s Section.80 contained the track “Blow My High (Members Only).” On the song, K. Dot repeatedly says “R.I.P. Aaliyah” over a soundscape the TDE rapper admits is reminiscent of Aaliyah’s catalog.
Cole teamed with Missy for his “Nobody’s Perfect” single off Cole World: The Sideline Story. The Roc Nation rapper revealed he thought of Aaliyah after he crafted the beat and actually wished he could have had her on the hook. Cole also covered the Missy/Aaliyah duet “Best Friend” for his Friday Night Lights mixtape. Several other Hip Hop artists like Dom Kennedy, Nipsey Hussle, A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ferg, Stalley, Crooked I, and Smoke DZA have sampled Baby Girl as well.

The world was only blessed to experience Aaliyah as an artist for eight years. Thankfully her multi-platinum selling albums Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number, One In A Million, and the self-titled Aaliyah, as well as soundtrack cuts “Are You That Somebody”, “I Don’t Wanna,” “Try Again” and the Oscar-nominated “Journey To The Past,” will live on.

After opening up for Nas and touring with The Weeknd, Jhene Aiko will be headlining her first tour. Deemed the ‘Enter The Void Tour,” the Souled Out singer will be sailing through 13 cities and is taking TDE songstress SZA and Odd Future’s in-house band The Internet with her. The tour begins in Washington D.C. on Dec. 3rd and includes stops in New York, Baltimore and two shows in Los Angeles. It wraps up right before Christmas on Dec. 21st in Minneapolis.

Two of Roc-A-Fella’s premier artists reunited for a new track. Young Chris recruited Beanie Sigel for “Legends Never Die.” The 3-minute song features Chris and Beans trading bars over a Cardiak beat. At one point the Philadelphia natives let the world know they are still down with the Roc and even give a shout out to the big boss Hov.

(AllHipHop News) Hot 97’s Peter Rosenberg joined the bashing of Lifetime’s Aaliyah biopic. He aimed most of his vitriol at the movie’s executive producer Wendy Williams. It was what seemed to be Williams’ ratings-over-quality response to the film’s criticism that appeared to anger Rosenberg, and the radio personality called Wendy out for being a negative force in Hip Hop.
“This is a person who never contributed positively to this culture ever. Full on gossip queen,” said Rosenberg. “In fact, she spawned the next gossip queen Charlamagne Tha God. That is what she has contributed to this culture. More people who create detrimental bs.”
Charlamagne spent the early part of his career working with Wendy Williams. He eventually joined Power 105’s The Breakfast Club morning show where he competes against rival station Hot 97 and Rosenberg.
Rosenberg has taken shots at Charlamagne in the past. The Ebro In The Morning co-host referred to Charlamagne as an “internet troll” last year. Rosenberg took issue with Charlamagne’s The Breakfast Club interview with Kanye West. He tweeted at the time, “thank you @cthagod for showing us the actual human form of an internet troll…40 minutes with kanye west and all of it spent trolling.”
Rosenberg also threw a few subliminal shots at C Tha God for his own recent critical response to the Aaliyah movie. During his “Donkey of the Day” segment, Charlamagne did not place all the blame on Williams for the routinely ripped biopic. Instead, he named all of the producers of the film and its screenwriter.
“Aaliyah? Not Biggie, not Pac, cause God bless both of them – there’s controversy to find there. No, no, no – Aaliyah. How can you do wrong by her? And [Williams] did,” added Rosenberg. “I’m not gonna be like other people and get on and make excuses and point out the other four nameless producers I’ve never heard of. They were trying to get a check, but Wendy Williams was at some point given a lot by this culture, and this was her way of giving back?”
(AllHipHop News) Migos member Quavo may have claimed his chains are still “dangling” in a recent video he added to Instagram, but according to GBE member Capo’s IG page the chain that was taken in Washington, DC was in the possession of Donno Wildass.
KollegeKidd is also reporting that an associate of the Atlanta-based rap group alleges a restraining order has been issued against him by the individuals that took Quavo’s chain. Migo Bands claimed in an IG vid that he was charged with aggravated assault in DC after the fight at Stadium Club.

Songstress K. Michelle recently released the new video to her single “Maybe I Should Call”. The single is the second track released from K’s highly anticipated sophomore album Anybody Wanna Buy A Heart?. Following the airing of K’s latest K. Michelle: My Life episode, the singer premiered her “Maybe I Should Call” video on VH1.
The music video, shot short film style, was inspired by a true story and directed by Iren Sheffield Brown. It shows and invisible K. Michelle in different scenes with her old flame as she observes him with his current lover. A hurt K. Michelle has to observe the two with their newborn, at the dinner table, and even in the bedroom as she sings the words to the emotional ballad. She sings out, “I can’t compete with a baby.” and “Is there any room left in your heart for me.” This is certainly one of K’s best visuals. It takes R&B fans back to her first video “Fallin'” where they first fell in love with her.

R&B songstress K. Michelle asks “How Do You Know” on her latest track from her forthcoming album Anybody Wanna Buy a Heart. The true ballad, backed by a piano instrumental, shows K being connected to her emotions and vulnerability. The singer asks herself how do you know when to walk away from a relationship that has run its course and has turned into a mess. She asks how do you know when to leave a relationship that only feels good for the moment. She sings, “How do I forget about the past?”
K. Michelle states that she’s looking for reasons to justify why it just may not be the right time to walk away. She wants to forget the past and start over, but she quickly realizes it’s not that easy.

(AllHipHop News) Eminem is already planning to release the 2-CD compilation album Shady XV on November 28, but now word has gotten out that the lyrical legend’s Shady Records will also drop a new mixtape as well. DJ Whoo Kid spoke about the upcoming project on the Rap Radar podcast.
“You guys gave me 130 records,” said Whoo to fellow guest Shady’s Paul Rosenberg. “Physically you can’t put all of them on 80 minute CDs, so we had to do a double disc.”
The parties involved were not completely open about all of the particular tracks that will be included on the Whoo Kid mixed Shady Records tape, but Rosenberg did mention he went back and listened to tracks like Obie Trice’s “Hey Lady,” 50 Cent’s “I Get Money (Remix),” and Eminem’s version of “Wanksta.” There will be 66 songs on the mixtape totaling nearly three hours of music.
“The first CD is like 80 [minutes] and the second one is like 70 [minutes],” revealed Whoo Kid. “Some songs are like five artists, especially the Slaughterhouse joints.”
The Shady Records mixtape will hit the internet sometime next week.

The WEEN Awards will take place at New York City’s Helen Mills at 6 pm. The proceeds from ticket sales go to help fund the organization’s educational programs. The Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network is a collective of women and men of all ages and races that are committed to supporting, promoting, and defending the balanced, positive portrayal of women in entertainment and society.

“It was basically profiling. We were the only motherf*&kers that fit the bill of some gangstas. So you know it was only right for them to come and harass us. “Those are the corporate gangsters so let’s get them.”
Furthermore, Slick shared his thoughts about the Michael Brown situation in Fergurson.
“I feel the same way I felt with Trayvon, the same way I felt with Oscar, It’s time to start making it where we are a self sufficient unit as a culture and as a team. I’m not saying go and ride and do something where you will get killed the first day… But I feel like if you exchange currency amongst your brothers and you educate the youth then we can make some progress.”
