(AllHipHop News) The non-profit organization Beats Rhymes And Life (BRL) is teaming with the Oakland Public Library and Oakland Parks and Recreation Department to offer its Hip Hop Therapy initiative to the California city.
Youth between the ages of 12-19 will participate in the 20-week-long workshops that seek to increase literacy and vocabulary, creative and critical thinking skills, positive coping strategies, and self-esteem. Mental health clinicians, teaching artists, and peer mentors engage the participants through a therapeutic program rooted in Hip Hop. The young people will also get to record a collaborative album and perform at a showcase.
BRL was founded by social worker Tomás Alvarez III and Hip Hop artist/youth advocate Rob Jackson. The organization has also operated Hip Hop Therapy programs in San Francisco and the South Bronx. Approximately 70 youth per year are served through BRL’s Therapeutic Activity Groups.
In 2004 after piloting a ‘Hip Hop Therapy’ program at a public high school, I witnessed the immediate impact it had on its youth participants, many of whom were chronically truant from school and at-risk for dropping out. 100% of the youth that participated completed the Hip Hop Therapy program, and shortly after we saw an increase in their grades and attendance. They also reported that Hip Hop Therapy changed how they felt about therapy and mental health in general. Others started clamoring to sign up. At that point I realized I had something special.
The 2009 independent film A Lovely Day followed the lives of Oakland teens that participated in BRL’s program. For more information about Beats Rhymes And Life visit brl-inc.org. To sign-up for BRL’s fall program in Oakland click here.

According to TMZ, Dupri is claiming that Mingo was never hired as his assistant and was merely a friend who lived off of him. The producer also alleges Mingo wrecked his Hummer, and he is seeking compensation for the damaged vehicle.
Mingo’s original suit accused Dupri of not paying him for working over 65 hours a week from 2010-2014. Durpi in turn states that he gave Mingo free studio time and allowed him to stay in his condo rent free for four years.
Dupri is also involved in another $1 million lawsuit with former business partner Eddie Weathers. He was also sued by SunTrust Bank for $2 million in 2013.

(AllHipHop News) OutKast undoubtedly reps their home city of Atlanta and the south in general. From naming their first album Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik to Andre 3000 declaring at the Source Awards that “the south got something to say,” Dre and Big Boi have always stood tall for their dirty south heritage.
That strong connection does not mean the duo did not draw inspiration from other regions of the country. During a discussion with NPR Microphone Check, Andre spoke about how Hip Hop groups from California and New York played a big part in influencing OutKast’s music.
I have to give a shout out to the Hieroglyphics Crew and Souls of Mischief, because as kids we were hugely influenced by them. When it comes to rap, I would say [A Tribe Called Quest], Hiero, and Das EFX – people don’t mention them a lot – but to me it was about who had the most interesting things, interesting flows. And when it came to that, Tribe had their thing, Hiero had their thing, Das EFX had their thing that was different from everybody else. So when we came out, you definitely could hear the West Coast influence in our rhymes.
3 Stacks goes on to add that he never felt like Kast had an “Atlanta sound.” In his view, the two emcees had southern accents, but their music was a “hodgepodge” of all the different sounds that they enjoyed listening to. OutKast wanted to carry the flag for the city, but they did not want to only create the traditional music that Atlanta had been known for at the time.
Word on the street is that this single was actually leaked without any consent, so Stalley took it upon himself and addressed it via Twitter and decided to let the CDQ quality fly. Possible hit, maybe? “OHIO” on the way.
While we wait for more news about their “Streets On Lock 4” mixtape, the Migos continue to feed the fans new remixes and delivers another freebie “No Mediocre”.

“When you’re in L.A. and you’re around people, you meet everybody. You meet Crips. You meet Bloods,” said Brown. “Especially in this industry that I’m in. I’m not in the country world. I’m not in the all the way pop world. You in Hip Hop.”
