EXCLUSIVE: Brianna Perry Talks “Sisterhood Of Hip Hop," Learning From Trina & Missy + Why Every Woman Can Be “That B.I.T.C.H.”

(AllHipHop News) “A lot of great things popped off for me this year,” exclaims Brianna Perry. The Miami-Dade County bred performer’s 2014 brought numerous milestones in her life. In May, Perry graduated from the University of Miami with a business degree. Then in August, the 22-year-old broke into television with the T.I. produced Sisterhood of Hip Hop on the Oxygen network.

For Brianna, appearing on reality TV was not about making a name for herself as a wine-throwing, loud mouthed villain. She used the platform to present herself to the world as a budding musical artist.

“That show was such a blessing. There were so many people that had yet to even hear a Brianna Perry record, so I got to be introduced to a whole new audience,” says the rapper. “They get to know me, not only as an artist, but as a person, as a student, as a daughter. I think people can connect with the music more, because they’re getting a taste of who Brianna Perry is and not just the artist.”

The Atlantic Records signee may be a new face to some music fans, but Brianna has been working in the industry since she was a pre-teen. Over the last seven years she has released several mixtapes including 2011’s Face Off and 2012’s Symphony No. 9. The Face Off project featured the YouTube hit “Marilyn Monroe.”

Perry is still continuing her musical push to the public. She recently dropped the video for her single “I’m That B.I.T.C.H.” Don’t be confused by the title. Brianna makes it clear that the acronym for the obscenity in the song’s name and the content on the track is meant to empower her gender.

“The word [b***h] is used so commonly, I just wanted to elevate the word. Just put a nice flip to it – beautiful, intelligent, tough, chicks in heels. I’m letting women know you can be that girl. You can be bossy, sassy, and still be classy at the same time,” explains Perry. “I was just being creative, having fun, and making girl anthems like I do. I’m just all about girl power.”

As Brianna offers guidance to her female followers, she also pays homage to the ladies that paved the way for her. At the very beginning of her career, Perry was mentored by two platinum-selling female rappers – Trina and Missy Elliott. That tutelage left an important impression on a young Brianna that still resonates today.

“[Trina and Missy are] strong-willed women who really made their mark on the game and who also had longevity,” states Brianna. “Just to see their work ethic and how passionate they were about their craft – everything they did, I tried to soak in. So to be able to cross paths with such great forces was priceless.”

Executive Producer Wendy Williams Reveals Details About Aaliyah Biopic

(AllHipHop News) Lifetime is set to premiere its Aaliyah Haughton biopic on November 15. The movie’s executive producer Wendy Williams revealed information about what parts of the late singer’s life will be covered in Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B.

[ALSO READ: Zendaya Explains Why She Pulled Out Of Lifetime Aaliyah Biopic]

“You see little Aaliyah grow up. You see when she first gets her record deal from her uncle Barry Hankerson. You see when she first meets Missy and Timbaland,” says Williams. “Aaliyah took a chance on working with Missy and Timbaland, because her uncle Barry and the record label wanted her to continue with her second album – which is platinum – working with R. Kelly.”

Aaliyah’s romantic relationship with Kelly was a major scandal in the early part of the “One In A Million” performer’s career. The two entertainers were secretly married in 1994 when Aaliyah was only 15 and Kelly was in his late 20’s. The marriage was eventually annulled. According to Wendy, the Aaliyah-R. Kelly situation will be heavily featured in the film.

“As promised you will see how she meets R. Kelly, what her father and mother’s reaction was to R. Kelly, when it ends with R. Kelly, how she moves on to Dame Dash,” explains Wendy. “But what you won’t see if the plane crash. I just thought that was distasteful.”

The film stars Alexandra Shipp as Aaliyah, Jackie Long as R. Kelly, Lyriq Bent as Barry Hankerson, and Elise Neal asGladys Knight. The Haughton family was not supportive of the movie being made.

Dame Dash Explains Why Looking Like You're Losing Can Really Be A Win

(AllHipHop News) Dame Dash sat down with Hip Hop Motivations and two-time welterweight champion Andre Berto to discuss the topic of giving away money. During the conversation, Dame addressed the idea of how difficult life situations, that could be perceived as a “loss,” can actually turn into a winning moment.

[ALSO READ: Details Emerge About Dame Dash’s Multi-Million Dollar Lawsuit Against Director Lee Daniels]

“This is why you also have to look like you lose for a minute, cause then you see who’s gonna look out for you,” said Dame. “The people that you helped, don’t help you usually when you need it. That’s what you learn when it looks like you’re down. You really get to see who’s there for you and who’s there to just make money off of you. That’s a win to me, because then you get to know who the f**k you shouldn’t be looking out for.”

The Roc-A-Fella co-founder has famously sparred with former friends over the topic of loyalty. Kanye West was one of Dash’s ex-associates that he recently took issue with for being disloyal. Dame called out Ye for not showing support to original Roc partner Kareem “Biggs” Burke since he has been incarcerated.

Erica Mena Blasts "Love & Hip Hop Hollywood" Cast + Talks Engagement To Bow Wow

(AllHipHop News) Love & Hip Hop New York‘s Erica Mena appeared on BE100Radio’s Rise & Grind Morning Show earlier this week, and the reality show star spoke about the newest version of the popular VH1 series – Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood.

[ALSO READ: Love & Hip Hop Hollywood Celebrate Show’s Premiere At Supper Club LA]

“I think everyone’s trying to pull an Erica, but this is the thing, you can’t pull an Erica unless you’re Erica,” said Mena when asked about there being “duplications” of her on LHHH. “I kinda feel like they’re coming on too strong, and that’s [why] people get the feeling like it’s scripted. People aren’t really being themselves.”

Mena points out that the show’s main antagonist, Teairra Marí, apparently bashed Erica’s behavior in the past. Shad “Bow Wow” Moss’ new fiancée also takes issue with the cast being violent on the program.

“The violence… there’s better ways to handle ourselves. Especially on television,” she added. “I doubt these Cali girls really be thumping out there like that. And I doubt these Cali girls really be popping their mouth – the ones that are on TV right now.”

A fan later called in and questioned Erica’s engagement with Bow Wow.

“It’s not for you to question, understand, or figure out the timing of when this happened for me. I’m just living my life how I want to,” said Mena. “And part of being a real woman is seeing from a distance that I’m doing such things and you cheer me on.”

Hip-Hop Rumors: HBO On The Run Special Numbers Are In

The reviews of the HBO On The Run Tour special were great, but the number of viewers were not so hot.

The special, which aired on September 23rd, brought in less than one million viewers, around 880,000 to be exact, according to TV by the Numbers.

The special was beat out by reruns of the Big Bang Theory, which brought in 2,790,000 viewers, which also means the couple’s special also fell short of making the top 20 cable shows for the evening…

Was there just too much hype surrounding the special? Our we tired of hip-hop’s favorite couple?

Do You Prefer To Participate In A Debatable Battle Or A Clear Victory?

When I’m in the moment I definitely prefer a decisive victory, but once the footage is getting ready to drop, I ultimately hope for a more debatable battle, because it adds to the replay value and also sparks interesting debate.

Where Do You See Battle Rap Going In The Future?

Sky’s the limit. The attention and hype battling gets now, added with the support from established artists, is just going to create bigger and better things for everyone involved. I’m just happy to be a part of it.
