“Now, every since my birth I’ve been cursed” –
-Tupac Shakur “Letter to My Unborn Child”

Every since the 15th century when the Portuguese missionaries visited the motherland, seems like Black people have been singing the gospel of the blues. Not only have we experienced the worst atrocity known to man, the TransAtlantic Slave Trade, but we are still suffering ,disproportionately, from every social ill plaguing the planet. If you press the average church person why this is so, he will give you a straight answer…It’s God’s will.

While many white moviegoers are curious about the cinematography of the upcoming movie ,Noah and how the producers are going to cover the Biblical deluge , as an African American I am wondering how they are going to deal with “the curse of Ham.”

Although , some people may say that Noah, is just another Bible movie, the “curse of Ham” is perhaps the most universally accepted ,yet , rarely discussed story in the Good Book.”

For the Biblically inclined, the story goes like this. Following the Flood, Noah got tipsy and took his clothes off . Apparently, Noah’s son, Ham , saw his nakedness and something happened. (scholars disagree over exactly what that was.) The incident resulted in Noah cursing Ham’s son, Canaan, making him a slave to his uncles Shem and Japheth. Some have even added that Ham was cursed to look like JJ from Good Times.

There have been numerous theological interpretations of the story , but the point here is to discuss how the “curse” was used for the enslavement of Black people and the legacy of the captivity.

Although, much of the myth surrounding “Ham’s Curse” is attributed to the Book of Genesis, the “racist” part of the story does not even come from the Bible. According to Thomas Gossett in his book, “Race: The History of an Idea in America,” the idea that Ham was cursed with “blackness” was “not found until the oral traditions of the Jews were collected in the Babylonian Talmud from the second century to the sixth century AD.”

But since many people don’t ,actually , read the Bible, they believe that black people come from a demon seed “because the Bible tells me so.”

Since the days of chattel slavery , there have been arguments for and against the idea of slavey being divinely instituted. During the 19th century, slavery advocates such as Thorton Stringfellow and Samuel Cartwright used the Holy writings to justify the practice.

However, some people used the same text to poke holes in that logic.

According to Carol Sank’s 1931 essay, “The Biblical Anti-slavery Argument of the Decade 1830-1840,” the Abolitionists countered with the argument that even if there was a curse on Canaan, “such a limited permission, certainly , neither implied approbation of the system nor justified slavery in the nineteenth century.”

So the question still remains , if African Americans are not under a Biblical curse, why did we suffer the horrors of slavey and still suffer socially and economically in the promised land of plenty?

While some may search for the answer within the confines of the Bible, perhaps the answer can be found in books like “How Europe Undeveloped Africa” by Walter Rodney or “The Destruction of Black Civilization” by Dr. Chancellor Williams. The authors point to reasons such as Capitalism, Euro-Christianity and gunpowder as the causes of our collective misery.

What is strange is that the Biblical rationale for black suffering is never discussed by white Fundamentalist Christians who take every word of the Bible , literally.

The relationship between evangelical Christians and the powerful elite who disperse the world’s resources is discussed in Jeff Sharlet’s book , “The Family.” This secret relationship should be of special interest to African people on the continent and in the Diaspora who suffer from the lack of those resources. In his book, Sharlet even accuses white Fundamental Christians with setting up a fake “black militant” organization in Washington DC called “the Black Buffers ” in 1968 to counter the outrage that resulted from the assassination of Dr.Martin Luther King during the height of the Black Power Era.

Some may ask why it is important to discuss an ancient Biblical text . The reason is that not only has white America bought into the myth of a curse of blackness , but African Americans, as well. This is even reflected in Hip Hop , as artists such as the late Notorious BIG would rap about being ” black and ugly as ever.” And countless others have made millions promoting the idea that Black people are “natural born killers.”

Until, we stop believing that our misfortunes are a curse from God, we will never be able to defeat the devils responsible for our oppression.

In reality, the real curse did not come from Noah, but is the result of a social, economic and political agenda promoted by Fundamental Christians and their powerful friends.

Video Exclusive: Skeme Broaches Artistic Growth

Videographer: Frsk Purple

Granting unprecedented access, AllHipHop.com was backstage at the Dom Kennedy’s ‘Get Home Safely’ concert. While situated in the greenroom, a composed Skeme, gives the concise yet candid video exclusive:

On Artistic Growth from DopeHouse to Ingleworld

“It’s a real growth thing in general. When the first mixtapes that came out I was all of 17 years old—now I’m 24…Seven years of doing music and gauging what people like from you—what people is rolling with you for—I think that’s the process of me making new music, nowadays.  That’s where we’ve went with it; I’ve matured.”

On Beat Selection

With my beats, it’s like I’m looking for a certain thing every single time. You know what I’m saying. So, when I get to playing with it it’s really nothing. So, we get to running off on beats–some of ’em I’m just really trying to sit in pocket, because they’re smooth-riding joints. Everything I got that quirky little bounce to them I’m going to tear them muthafu*kas apart. And try my best to tear them sh*ts up. You know, it’s always a pick and choose as to what I’m going to do with a song.”

Jahna Sebastion: “I Am Free”

London-based singer Jahna Sebastian is celebrating the success of her most recently released EP “The Edge of Love,” with a brand-new video and project titled “I Am Free.”

The new video is taken from her new upcoming EP of the same title, which Jahna is planning to release at the beginning of May.

She described the six-song EP as “parallel realities of art imitating life.”

“It explores parallel realities of art and life imitating each other like in Oscar Wilde’s saying, ‘Life imitates Art far more than Art imitates Life,'” the singer explained to AllHipHop.com. “The song is about some of my experiences of finding freedom both physically from detention and mentally from feelings of sadness and abandonment.

“When I was making the song I had this idea of creating this space of life and art swapping places where you can’t even tell the fine line separating them anymore and asked my friend artist German Zwanik to paint live to the song which he only heard for the first time and while listening to the song on repeat he created two painting filmed live in the video,” Jahna Sebastian stated. “We live in the world of reality TV, selfies, projecting images from real life on virtual reality of social networks and this is my own piece of reality TV within my music video. Before I decided to be a musician I wanted to be a visual artist.”

SIGNS The World Is Not Ending: Another Person Cured Of AIDS?

Magic Johnson hasn’t been cured of AIDS, but somebody has! Kinda. Here in America, the media is like an arm of the government so to get the truth you have to really look in different places. One of those is the BBC, who, earlier this month, printed the following article.

RELATED: ALLHIPHOP EXCLUSIVE: Magic Johnson, La La Anthony Talk Hip-Hop, AIDS and Next Steps

U.S. researchers have revealed another baby carrying the HIV virus, which leads to Aids, may have been cured through early treatment.

Antiretroviral drugs were reportedly administered to the baby in California just four hours after birth.

The unidentified nine-month-old child is now said to be HIV negative.
It is the second such case after an HIV-positive Mississippi infant brought into remission following early treatment was reported in 2013.
‘Not without risk’

“This is a call to action for us to mobilize and be able to learn from these cases,” Johns Hopkins University pediatrics specialist Dr Deborah Persaud said at a Boston medical conference.

No trace of the virus can now be found in the infant’s blood or tissues, the doctor revealed.

Dr Persaud said the nine-month-old child is still receiving a three-drug anti-Aids cocktail, while the three-year-old Mississippi child stopped receiving antiretroviral treatments two years ago.

“Really the only way we can prove that we have accomplished remission in these kids is by taking them off treatment and that’s not without risk,” Dr Persaud added.

Both children are reported to have been born to mothers infected with HIV, which weakens the body’s immune system.

The human immunodeficiency virus has infected more than 34 million people worldwide, researchers estimate.

EXCLUSIVE: Lloyd Lake & Reggie Wright Discuss Whether Former Friend Suge Knight Is A Government Informant

(AllHipHop News) The controversial legacy of Marion “Suge” Knight includes co-founding legendary Hip Hop label Death Row Records, several run-ins with the law, and a public persona that promotes his supposed close relations with underworld dealings.

Two of Knight’s former close associates are set to explore if “government informant” and “rat” are terms that should be added to the music insider’s Wikipedia page as well.

Lloyd “TaTa” Lake first met Suge two decades ago, and Reggie Wright is Suge’s childhood friend and ex-head of his security at Death Row. Both men are now working on a new documentary that covers the circumstances surrounding the still unprosecuted murders of rap icons Tupac Shakur and Christopher “The Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace.

Justice for Tupac and Biggie will also take a look at whether the U.S. government has infiltrated the Hip Hop community with secret sources willingly to provide information on rappers. In particular, the film will shine a light on Suge’s possible ties with the FBI.

In an interview with AllHipHop.com, Lake and Wright discuss their forthcoming documentary, their history with Suge and Death Row, all the people suspected of being involved in the deaths of 2Pac and Biggie, and of course why they believe Suge Knight is not who he claims to be.

Read excerpts concerning Suge’s alleged ties to the government from the full AllHipHop 3-part article that will be published this week.

Lloyd Lake:

You gotta look at the Whitey Bulger case; these people that were long-time government informants. You don’t get paperwork when you work in that capacity for the FBI. They offered me that job before, and I said, “no thanks.” So I know that’s real that you don’t get paperwork. You just gather information for the FBI like Whitey Bulger was doing.

Another example, one night [Suge] called me and said, “I need you to go push on Drake for me.” I already had in my mind this guy could be an informant, but the only reason I went down there was to check to see if I could figure out if he really was an informant and to see if I saw any FBI or anybody in the vicinity or in the club. Sure enough I did. They followed me everywhere I moved through there.

Let’s talk about Las Vegas when he’s standing over Melissa Issac, and he’s beating her with a knife in his hand and with drugs in his front pocket. He doesn’t go to jail. This is a slam dunk case. You got a cop as an eye-witness. You don’t have a better eye-witness than a police officer. And there’s no way Melissa can just say she doesn’t want to testify against him. They would have forced her to testify. They would have subpoenaed her. There’s no way out of those cases.

Reggie Wright:

I wasn’t under the impression about him being an informant. I just know he has rat things in him… The one thing is when he was doing his time in jail for the probation violation on the state side. He knew he had a six months tail on the federal side. He actually reached out to the U.S. Attorney that was handling the matter for his six month probation violation and said, “Y’all been trying to get me to cooperate on David Kenner. I’m willingly to do that now, because I don’t wanna go six months. I’m ready to get out of here.”

He had me call the U.S. Attorney. I did. The U.S. Attorney advised me that, “I can’t talk to you Reggie. You’re not his attorney of record. I would have to hear from his attorney.” Which at the time [the attorney] handling the federal matter was David Chesnoff out of Las Vegas. So I called David Chesnoff and told him Suge wanted to do the six months and cooperate against David Kenner… David Chesnoff told me, “I represent tough guys from the Mafia. One thing I don’t do is represent rats that would do any type of telling, so you tell Suge if that’s what he wants to do then he needs to remove me or I’ll remove myself as his attorney of record.”

Hip-Hop Rumors: Denzel Washington & Paula Patton?

Da F##?

With Robin Thicke being all loose with the lovin,’ it was inferred strongly that h was a big ol’ cheater. This, in rumor, is why she left him and has not taken him back. But, there is a new rumor that has EARTH-shattering implications of your world is Denzel Washington or Robin Thicke.

Today, the National Enquirer is supposed to be running a new story on Denzel and Paula Patton. They will infer that the pair had a steamy relationship. As you know, they have been in a couple of movies together, the most recent being “2 Guns.” In rumor, they are saying that as soon as the separation between Robin and Paula became public, Denzel was one of the first people to buzz her jack.

Anyway, I did a bit of googling and this rumor has been out there quite a bit. So, there’s a lot of smoke, but the fire has yet to reveal itself.

That’s that. Denzel has been good about whatever dirt he has out there, but I’ve never been one to put his biz in the streets. Dude is the Golden One!

Hip-Hop Rumors: Did Luda Drop The Hammer On A Blogger?

Lowkey, Luda is G’d up! I’m hearing he or somebody in his legal department put the smack down on a blogger and forced her to take down a post that claimed Luda would be paying 10k in child support. I’m a bit late, but I went to revisit the page and it said:

Not Found, Error 404
The page you are looking for no longer exists. Perhaps you can return back to the site’s homepage and see if you can find what you are looking for.

In this day and age of gossipy rhetoric, stars generally let stuff go, because the rumors are generally gone after the news cycle is over. But, Sandra Rose is known to kick up dust, especially in the Atlanta area.

Truthfully, there hasn’t been any information that has refuted the initial report, but the take down indicates its now true. Anyway, Luda still has his lady and another Fast & Furious movie coming so he’s good.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Jim Jones’ Mother Has A Little Crush?

This information was fed to me, so I wasn’t there. This is definitely first hand information though.

You already know Jim Jones’ mother Mama Jones is a complete handful! She’s A LOT! Here she is if you didn’t know.

You get the idea, especially when you see her wearing a shirt that says, “I’m a psychotic b***ch!” Yoooooooo! So, last night a singer named Timothy Bloom performed in New York City and, since it was a big deal, Mama Jones showed up. Other minor celebs were there as well. Well, Timothy is a Grammy Award winning singer that has some pretty deep songs with meaningful lyrics. Seems like Mama Jones was taken by his talents.

Anyway, dude..Mama Jones rushed to the stage during his performance and got a kiss from T. Bloom. On top of that, she made a scene in the sitting room event. So, she left and Timothy was left with a look of astonishment. But, it didn’t stop. Mama Jones, now in the back of the room, started to yell, “Do you wanna smell it? Do you wanna smell it?” I heard Timothy’s face was pricelessly astonished. So she came back. My source said they thought she was going to whip something ELSE out and see if he wanted a smell.

Well she was talking about her perfume…PumKash…THEY THINK. She pulled him close and got another peck. Whew. She then left the scene and didn’t hurt nobody.

Anyway, Timothy wowed the crowd at the store with a lively 30 minute performance.

Charlie Wilson: Sometimes I Tell Kanye West To “Sit Down & Be Quiet” (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Kanye West’s tendency to share almost everything he is thinking with the world can often times draw negative responses from the public. Some people wonder if anyone ever pulls the Hip Hop superstar to the side and suggest he not be so vocal all the time.

One person who says he is not afraid to let Ye know when he has crossed the line is veteran performer Charlie Wilson. Uncle Charlie told HipHollywood that he does not sugarcoat his conversations with the G.O.O.D. Music boss.

“When he does something wrong I’m the first one to tell him that he’s wrong and sit down and be quiet. I don’t care if you don’t like it or not,” said Wilson. “I don’t embrace some of the things that he does, and some of the stuff he does I do embrace.”

Wilson goes on talk about Kanye’s music, “Sometimes it gets a little out of hand, and sometimes he just says, ‘I’m gonna do this kind of music just to inspire people.’ Okay then say that.”

West and Wilson worked together on the track “Bound 2” off Kanye’s Yeezus album. Wilson told Billboard earlier this year he was considering recording his own version of “Bound 2” after Kanye suggested the idea.

Lord Jamar Says He Represents Hip Hop Conservatives

(AllHipHop News) Over the last few months Brand Nubian member Lord Jamar has become the unofficial spokesman of a sect in the Hip Hop community that takes issue with what they see as the “feminization” and “white washing” of the culture.

[ALSO READ: Lord Jamar Speaks On The Difference Between Macklemore & Eminem]

Jamar has spoken out against rappers wearing clothing like skirts and kilts. He also called white performers like Macklemore and Yelawolf “guests” in Hip Hop.

According to he 45-year-old New York native, he is standing up for the preservation of the true essence of the culture.

“I’m that voice of what Hip Hop used to be,” Jamar told The New Yorker. “I think I represent the Hip Hop conservatives. And I use the word ‘conservative’ in the sense of conservation: I’m trying to conserve Hip Hop and its essence.”

As a new generation of rap stars strive to take the culture in new directions, traditionalists like Jamar question how far can Hip Hop be pushed before it morphs into something completely different.

“I have no problems with pushing boundaries,” said Jamar. “But everything has its limits. How far do you go with this pushing of boundaries before you’ve turned it into something else? That’s what I want to know. How much water can you add into the whiskey before you no longer get drunk?”
