The Weeknd Streaming Entire New Album "Kiss Land" Online For Free

(AllHipHop News) The Weeknd’s weekend was interrupted by a premature leak of his debut album Kiss Land. Instead of act as if it never happened and wait for Kiss Land‘s planned September 10th release date, the Toronto crooner decided to stream his new album online for free.

The album’s only guest is hometown partner and former collaborator Drake but features the ambient, lush musical landscapes and gut-wrenching visual lyrics that made The Weeknd’s previous three projects famous.

The Weeknd’s Kiss Land can be streamed at NPR’s media player.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Lil Wayne Disses Lil Kim – Kim Claps Back

Remember when it seemed like Lil Kim was allegedly going to get down with Cash Money?

Those days are over. Kim popped off first a ways back, but I forgot about it. Anyway, on his new mix tape, Wayne disses Kim by saying, “changed the face of my Rolex, shout out to Lil’ Kim.” Basically. he’s alluding to her plastic surgery.

Kim ain’t about that life. She tweeted back at Wayne and alluded to questions about his sexuality.

“They keep us talking, but if we stop talking about them then they should worry!” -illseed.

EXCLUSIVE: Terror Squad's illa Da Producer Speaks On Fat Joe's Jail Sentence, New Album

(AllHipHop News) Over the Labor Day weekend AllHipHop.com took a moment to speak with Terror Squad’s illa Da Producer, just Fat Joe prepares to release his third “Darkside” mixtape project, which features production by DJ Premier, Cool & Dre, Diamond D. and others.

illa took a moment to detail getting in the studio and making the new single “Love Me Long Time” featuring Future and dealing with Fat Joe’s four-month incarceration for tax evasion, which he is currently serving at The Federal Detention Center in Miami.

illa touched on meeting Fat Joe and producing for the legendary Bronx rapper, who has worked with major acts like Big Pun, Diddy, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Wiz Khalifa and others.

“Really Fat Joe is my main inspiration right now,” illa Da Producer told AllHipHop.com. “I was giving everybody beats for a minute and he was really the first person to pay attention, like ‘you’ve got something.’ That’s the big homie for life.

“We’ve got more records as soon as Joe get out,” illa said of Fat Joe’s new, untitled album. “We got work with Timbo [Timbaland]. It’s a big project, it’s going to be a real big album. He [Fat Joe] said it’s one of his favorite albums he put together yet. We haven’t put a name on it , because its such a special body of work to him.”

On August 26, Fat Joe surrendered to authorities to serve a four-month prison sentence for failing to pay $1 million in taxes between the years 2007 and 2008.

According to illa, Fat Joe’s 20-plus years in the Hip-Hop industry will help him when he is released from prison.

“It’s real tough , thats something I wouldn’t wish on nobody especially the big homie,” illa Da Producer told AllHipHop.com. “He really do a lot for everybody. Anybody in this industry will probably tell you Joe has done something for them. He’s already given us the jobs we’ve got to do, he’s going to be in there focused on coming out stronger than ever.”

Hip-Hop Rumors: Rick Ross Goes Hollywood?

RICK ROSS GOES HOLLYWOOD!!

Rick Ross is planning a new foray into Hollywood. Rapping is just not enough for the guy. From what I am told, Rick Ross has inked a major deal with ICM, a company that represents a bunch of actor types. The word is Rick Ross is going to be going after a bunch of big time roles in the film industry. Rick did a pretty decent acting job in that last movie he was in “Days of Wrath” and has a major role on the new TV series “Magic City.” The only problem is the other Rick Ross, you know, the real one. Freeway Ricky is also going into movie game, with a few documentaries on his life. There’s even a full-length movie being directed by Nick Cassavettes that will be based on Freeway Ricky’s life. It will be interesting to see how this one plays out in the courts, if it even goes there.

BIG WILLIE’S SCIENTOLOGY SCHOOL SHUT DOWN?

More stuff is coming out about Will Smith and his relationship with Scientology. An elementary school associated with the Smith’s named New Village Leadership Academy in California was recently shut down. People are saying that it was because their curriculum had a bunch of Scientology references. Some parents got mad and protested until they shut the school down. But now it’s being reported that it wasn’t because of the religion, but because the school went broke. That doesn’t matter. I heard that Will is going to help bring in the Hip-Hop community and recruit people to be Scientologists. They already opened a new Church in Inglewood, California and I heard they could even be recruiting gang members to give them some religion. Harlem get ready, they are opening up a new Church on 125th Street too.

Festivals Gone WILD!!??

Man there were a lot of festivals this weekend. The Made in America Festival is taking place in Philadelphia. At Randall’s Island in New York, the Electric Zoo Festival is taking place. And The North Coast Music Festival is taking place in Chicago. There’s been a lot of positive press for each event, but there’s been some crazy things happening at each one. At the Made in America Festival, police are investigating two separate rape incidents. One chick asked a dude to use a cellphone, but he offered her to use the phone at his house. And then he raped her. Then another woman got into what she thought was a cab, and then two dudes raped her. The North Coast Music Festival wasn’t as bad. Police had to tase a naked guy who was running down the streets acting crazy. Then he jumped on a car with a family in it.  He jumped on the hood and then dropped his ass, right through the windshield!! He kept it moving until the cops came, tasered him and arrested him in the buff. Things got real at The Electric Zoo concert. Two people overdosed and died after taking some of that bad Molly aka MDMA. They cancelled the last day of the concert yesterday, after the two deaths and a bunch of other people got sick. This is your brain on drugs.

10 Biggest Stories From "The Summer Of Hip Hop" 2013

(AllHipHop Features) Labor Day weekend has traditionally been viewed as the unofficial end to the summer, so with the hottest season of the year winding down, AllHipHop.com takes a look back at the hottest Hip Hop news stories of the last three months. Major headlines included a day time “robbery” of an Atlanta rapper, the polarizing verdict in the trial of the year, the public mending of a broken friendship, and the collapse of another former relationship over ghostwriting allegations.

Of course the music of Hip Hop’s elite took center stage as well. One NYC legend amended the laws of the music business’ constitution and another shared his approval of a southern transplant. The West Coast was not left out of the “Summer of Hip Hop.” Rap’s newest superstar challenged the entire Hip Hop community to stepped their bars up with one highly celebrated verse. Take a trip down recent memory lane in the 10 biggest Hip Hop related stories from the summer of 2013.

2 Chainz

2 Chainz Got Robbed Or Nah?

On June 10th, reports began making the rounds online that 2 Chainz was held up at gunpoint in San Francisco. The “Feds Watching” rapper quickly took to Twitter to deny he was the victim of a robbery, tweeting: “Rule #1 if a rapper gets robbed people usually post items that has been taken. Rings, chains, watch, money etc.”

Within days TMZ posted video footage of the incident, and a few weeks later 2 Chainz’s driver’s license and bank card were posted on Instagram. The A-Town native went back to social media to make the point that he was not “robbed,” only “pick pocketed.” He continued to advance that claim on his verse on Big Sean’s “Mula (Remix)” where he raps, “And I still ain’t never been robbed, so n*gga don’t try me/Two n*ggas with guns, natural wallet/That pick pocket they want my I.D.”

Jay-Z

Jay Z Introduces #NewRules

Jay Z has repeatedly changed the rules of the rap game throughout his career. The Brooklyn icon has set almost as many precedents as the U.S. Supreme Court. When it came time to roll out his 12th solo album Magna Carta Holy Grail, Jigga was on a mission to revolutionize the music world forever. He announced his latest LP with a Samsung commercial that introduced his #NewRules campaign. The unprecedented deal with the technology company included the purchase of 1 million copies of MCHG by Samsung helping Jay receive platinum status from the RIAA before the album was even released.

Even with Billboard refusing to recognize those sales for their album chart and privacy questions about the mobile app associated with the album, Jay managed to secure the second biggest first week album sales of 2013. The 528,000 units sold in MCHG’s opening week can be credited to Jay’s long-standing supportive fan base and his inventive promotional tactics such as debuting the cover art next to the real Magna Carta in London and the social media-shy emcee holding an hours-long Q&A on Twitter.

Lil Snupe

The Murder Of Lil Snupe

Lil Snupe was a rising rapper on Meek Mill’s Dream Chasers Records. The 18-year-old’s life was unfortunately cut short when he was killed on June 20th in Winnfield, Louisiana. Police issued an arrest warrant for Tony Holden, 36, accusing him of murdering Snupe after an argument over a video game. Holden eventually turned himself into authorities and was charged with 1st degree murder, armed robbery, and illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. A second suspect, Edrick O. Stewart, was also arrested in July.

Friends of Snupe, like Meek and Louisiana Cash, honored the young emcee in tribute songs, and the track “Lil Snupe Intro” will appear on Maybach Music Group’s upcoming compilation album Self Made 3 due out on September 17th. Lil Snupe’s mixtapes can be downloaded at datpiff.com.

Nas_Jcole

Nas Tells J. Cole He Wasn’t Let Down

Roc Nation emcee J. Cole has always been vocal about his appreciation for Hip Hop legend Nas. He transferred that admiration for God Son into a personal track on his second album Born Sinner called “Let Nas Down.” Hot 97’s Peter Rosenberg announced the song was coming on his morning radio show in May, and the Hip Hop nation patiently waited to hear what Cole would say about how Nas was apparently disappointed by his single “Work Out.”

In an unexpected turn, Nas jumped in the booth to record a remix to Jermaine’s track. On the new version, the Queensbridge rhymer tells Cole, “I ain’t mad at you, young king” and “Now I’m playing Born Sinner loud/ saw you live, rock the crowd/ Like wow, you made your n*gga Nas proud.”  Even without an official project released in summer 2013, with one track Nas left his mark on the season, and he gave a potent co-sign to one of the leading young stars in Hip Hop.

Yeezus-Born Sinner-The Gifted-MCHG

Hip Hop Albums Dominate Summer Sales

Anyone who follows music knows that album sales have consistently declined over the last decade. Hip Hop was especially hit hard because of savvy fans who know how to find leaked copies on the internet and from a lack of high quality studio projects. This summer saw a resurgence of LP’s from rap artists that took over the Billboard 200.

Kanye West’s Yeezus, Wale’s The Gifted, J. Cole’s Born Sinner, and Jay Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail all pushed enough units to land at Number 1 on the album chart establishing the first time four different rap albums landed in the top spot for four consecutive weeks. Add in the chart success of Mac Miller’s Watching Movies With the Sound Off, and Hip Hop set another record for maintaining the 1-3 spots in the country for three straight weeks for the first time in the genre’s history.

George Zimmerman Found Not Guilty For The Murder Of Trayvon Martin

In February of 2012, the entire country was forced to address the issue of modern-day racism once again when 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was fatally shot in Sanford, Florida. Seventeen months later his killer, George Zimmerman, was acquitted of murder, and the reaction from most of the African American community ranged from disappointment to shock to anger.

Zimmerman’s not guilty verdict set off demonstrations across the nation, tribute songs by various entertainers, and a speech by President Obama. It also led to Martin’s parents leading the charge to get Florida’s controversial “Stand Your Ground” law overturned, the NAACP introducing “Trayvon’s Law” legislation, a statewide boycott by Stevie Wonder, protests at Governor Rick Scott’s office, and a Coalition to Stop Gun Violence public service announcement. Martin’s tragic death will be forever immortalized in American history when his symbolic hoodie is added to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Nicki Minaj- Ransom

Nicki Minaj vs Ransom

AllHipHop’s resident rumor mill master Illseed triggered another major discussion in Hip Hop about “ghostwriting” when he wrote a post on New Jersey rapper Ransom’s song “Man Alone.” The track features a line where Ransom raps, “Before Nicki was wearing those crazy wigs I was doing verses for her just hoping she made it big.” The choice of words in the lyrics left its meaning open for interpretation. Was Ran implying that he wrote lyrics for Nicki before she became a star or was he simply reminding the world of his prior connection to the Young Money femcee?

TMZ caught up with Nicki and asked her about the rumors that Ransom was once her ghostwriter. The leader of the Barbz went on an explicit filled rant telling the pap that she “don’t need no muthaf*cking ghostwriter.” Nicki later admitted that she had not even heard the verse at the time she was asked the question, but she let Ransom know on Twitter that he was still partially responsible for the controversy, because as she put it, the line should have been “reworded.” While Ransom maintained that he was not claiming credit for Nicki’s raps and felt he was taken out of context, the veteran rapper received the most publicity of his career from the ordeal. He booked several high-profile interviews including a sit down on Sway Calloway’s morning show.

Jay Z Dame Dash 2

Dame Dash & Jay Z Reunite

When Roc-A-Fella broke up it was the end of an era in Hip Hop. The trio of Jay Z, Dame Dash, and Kareem “Biggs” Burke launched one of the greatest labels in rap history. The Roc was once home to Kanye West, Cam’ron, Dipset, Beanie Sigel, Freeway, DJ Clue, and State Property, but the split between the co-founders led to artists and fans choosing sides. For years Dame and Jay remained estranged, and it seemed as if the two former friends would never repair their relationship.

Then when Jay began his press run for his latest album Magna Carta Holy Grail earlier this summer, the Roc Nation boss had several kind words to say about Dame. He told Hot 97, “No matter how many years I ain’t seen him, the love is still there, because what we’ve done will forever be stamped in history.” Dame also showed his love for Jay on Instagram when he posted a video of him listening to MCHG with the caption, “In the barber shop listening to jays new album….I can’t front… I still like hearing him pop sh*t cause I know he’s telling the truth…proud to be a part of that..#bittersweet.” The mutual respect finally went from mentions in the media to real life when Jay and Dame were photographed together at Chaka Pilgrim’s birthday party in August. It was the first time the two had been pictured together in years.

Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick Lamar Takes “Control” Of The Game

Kendrick Lamar’s contribution to “Control” by Big Sean was easily Hip Hop’s most talked about verse in years. When one of the few platinum selling rappers of this generation claims he’s the only emcee in the same league as Jay Z, Nas, Eminem, and Andre 3000, calls out his verbal competitors by name, and plants his flag as the king of both the West Coast and New York, the gauntlet has been thrown down for scores of rappers to take shots at the throne.

Responses poured in from Joell Ortiz, Lupe Fiasco, B.o.B, Cassidy, Papoose, Joe Budden, Joey Bada$$, and many more. While none of the actual rappers Kendrick named have responded on wax yet, a few like Big Sean, Wale, Meek Mill, and Drake chose to offer their take on the friendly competition during interviews. If Kendrick’s “Control” verse sparks a continual focus on lyrics it may end up being the most valuable Hip Hop moment of the summer.

Miley Cyrus

Twerking Goes Mainstream

First off, let’s be clear. Despite what some news outlets may report, “twerking” was not invented by Miley Cyrus. The dance has a long history in the south under various names like “popping,” “gushing,” “dropping,” and “bouncing,” but what cannot be denied is that the pop singer formerly known as Hannah Montana has taken the twerk dance to another level.

Miley began her reign as mainstream America’s “twerk queen” when a video of her dancing to J. Dash’s “WOP” went viral. That was followed by her on stage twerk debut at a Juicy J concert in June. The official coronation took place at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards when Billy Ray Cyrus’ daughter teamed up with Alan Thicke’s son for a mashup performance of Miley’s “We Can’t Stop” and Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” and “Give It 2 U.” Even the Oxford Online Dictionary took notice of the twerking phenomenon by adding the term to their database.

5 Battle Rappers Who Made The Transition To The Booth

[twitter-follow screen_name=’AllHipHopcom’] [twitter-follow screen_name=’SkyyhookRadio’]

This is a list strictly to remind us as to why we shouldn’t forget nor should we discount the battle rap realm. There are battle rappers who spit the wackest of verses and get praised simply because they battled someone even less talented than were they, however most times that is not the case.

We know that when some of you think of battle rappers, you have ideas like the example below in mind!

But thinking all battle emcees are like the Chappelle Show skit is not even fair! This is true of a few but not of the majority and some are even able to crossover and graduate to the type of booth and stage emcees that seem to get more respect. Let us be clear, having a battle background makes those artists even more well rounded and solid within their crafts! A battle emcee will still tear everyone in the room up with their verbal ability regardless of if they are battling other emcees or merely battling themselves on a verse!

Check out 5 former battle emcees that made the transition whom we enjoy in either realm. This list is in no order and by no means are these the only guys out here who have done it but we must start somewhere! That said check out the list!

Loaded Lux

Rone

Serius Jones

Soul Khan

And finally the way the song is REALLY supposed to go!

Eminem

This is but a sampling of the talent that we’re talking about and we know that you have favorites out there that you feel deserve to be on this type of list. So, now we’re counting on you to shout them out in the comments! Who is the dopest battle emcee that you know of who is making that transition? Who do you feel we should acknowledge next? Let’s discuss it!

ACLU Weighs In On Florida Sheriff's Comments About Ludacris/Kendrick Lamar Concert

(AllHipHop News) The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Florida has expressed dismay at comments made by a Lee County Sheriff, over an upcoming concert featuring Ludacris and Kendrick Lamar.

Sheriff Mike Scott questioned the choice of acts selected for Florida Gulf Coast University’s upcoming “Eaglepalooza” concert, which is slated for November 24.

Sheriff Scott sent a series of emails to FGCU President Wilson Bradshaw, criticizing the choice of artists the students selected, due to their lyrical content.

[ALSO READ: Florida Sheriff Takes Issue With Ludacris & Kendrick Lamar Performing At Local University ]

A spokesman named Baylor Johnson for the ACLU criticized Sheriff Mike Scott’s statements, which questioned why the event needed 75-100 additional officers and whether or not off-duty officers would work the event.

Sheriff Scott also promised officers who were patrolling the event would do so, with rigorous force.

“Law enforcement doesn’t have the option to not do its job and keep the community safe because they don’t like or agree with a particular expression at an event,” Baylor Johnson of the ACLU said.

It’s unclear why Sheriff Scott has a bone to pick with Ludacris and Kendrick Lamar, since artists like Busta Rhymes, Flo Rida and Pitbull have performed with no objections to the police department.

“This is a public school, so it therefore cannot favor one type of speech or another, or prohibit one type simply because it disagrees with the language in the lyrics,” Baylor Johnson said.

Q&A With Producer Mouse On The Track On Leaving Trill; Future Plans

Earlier in the week, AllHipHop.com broke the news that producer Mouse on The Track was leaving Trill Entertainment, after a decade of providing production for the legendary, Baton Rogue label, which was founded by Melvin Vernell Jr. and Marcus “Turk” Roach.

While Mouse says the parting of ways was amicable, he admitted that he was never properly compensated for producing hits that define the sound of Baton Rouge through production work for artists like Lil Boosie, Lil Phat (RIP), Foxx, Webbie and others.

Mouse on the Track 2
Mouse on The Track

Could Mouse’s departure be the end of Trill Entertainment? The label has been through considerable turmoil over the past five years.

In 2011, Vernell and Roach were sentenced to two years of probation for shooting a rival rapper accused of bootlegging their records.

Lil Boosie has been incarcerated since 2008 on drug charges. Boosie also faced a murder charge, but he beat that case in May of 2012.

Trill rapper Lil Phat (Melvin Vernell III) was gunned down in Atlanta in June 2012, in a high-profile case that resulted in the arrest of San Francisco State point-guard Decensae White, rapper Gary “El Dorado Red” Bradford, Maurice Conner and former NCAA star Deandre Washington, who are all accused of taking part in the hit.

Now, Trill has to deal with the departure of their in-house producer, who reveals his plans for the next chapter in his career as a producer.

AllHipHop.com: What would your advice be to producers wanting to get in the game based on your experience?

Mouse: I’d say especially with your first big placement make sure your business is together. Make sure you know what you’re getting yourself into, especially before you sign anything. Make sure you get a full understanding of what you’re signing. Have an idea of how you’re going to get compensated. For me it was more of a learning experience because I went through it first, and now I know better ya know? It’s like when you touch the stove and it’s too hot and you know not to touch it no more. I kinda went through it like that; but now I know what to look for because I experienced it.

AllHipHop.com: A lot of new producers end up signing their life away just to be able to work with certain artists, how was your situation?

Mouse: Fortunately, I signed as an in-house producer, but a contract can be perfect and everything can be all good and fair; but what’ll make a contract go bad is when somebody doesn’t abide by it. I’d say I did about 90% of it, pretty much everything that was on the charts and radio was pretty much me but all the money didn’t reflect that.

AllHipHop.com: So you didn’t get what was due you as a producer even with a contract?

Mouse: No, I didn’t get what I was due, but it’s all good it was a learning experience.

AllHipHop.com: It must be harder to deal with when it’s like a family situation?

Mouse: When you make it about family and you make it seem like this is my fam, these my people, they not gonna mess over me, you don’t ever think about it until that check you looking for don’t come and you’re like, “what happened to that check” and you keep hearing I got you, I got you, and it never comes. But at the same time, the business was new to everybody; and I’m not trying to make excuses for them, but with money coming in from everywhere they probably didn’t know how to disburse all of it or something so I’m sure there was a lot of confusion as to who was supposed to get what. But at the end of the day, I didn’t get what was due me but I’m not crying over it. I’ve moved on from it, it is what it is and now I’m in a bigger and better situation in my career.

AllHipHop.com: So you just chose not to renew your deal with Trill?

Mouse: Yes.

trilllogoAllHipHop.com: Are you and Turk still cool?

Mouse: I mean I ain’t talked to him in a minute but it ain’t no problems like, when I see you I’m gone get you or nothing like that, we just not doing business together that’s all. At the end of the day I still created all the hits and I earned a lot being with Trill, with the exception of money, but it’s all good.

AllHipHop.com: Tell me about your new situation

Mouse: Well, I just dropped a single “Off The Chain” I’ve been having a lot of opportunities presented to me since I got out of my contract. I’ve had a chance to record in New York and Los Angeles, as a matter of fact when I was at the Atlantic studios in LA I just got such a good vibe in that building. I got great feedback on the single and I got it circulating on the streets and at radio so I’m just looking for some great things to take place.

AllHipHop.com: Are you looking to sign with Atlantic?

Mouse: If they come with a good offer, all options are open with me but I wouldn’t be opposed to it out right. Now I’m releasing these singles, I just dropped “Off The Chain” and I just did a song with Kevin Gates that’s on iTunes and I’m just looking forward to generating some income where I don’ t have to split with no label or nothing that’s all mine, it feels good to get all the residuals. So I’m just gonna keep on putting the records out. I also just did a record with Rocko off his mixtape called “Feels Good” that went to MTV jams. I did a record with Lil Cali and Juvenile that should be releasing in September but I’m just interested in working with artist interested in making something happen, man.

AllHipHop.com: Who would you like to work with that you haven’t yet?

Mouse: Big Sean, Travis Porter, French Montana, and Big Krit those are some of the people whose music I like that I would like to work with. I liked working with Kevin Gates he’s a great musical talent and of course Lil Boosie when he gets home.

AllHipHop.com: The Trill family is no stranger to life behind bars, how did you dodge the perverbial bullet?

Mouse: I’m the good guy, so I don’t believe in all that goin to jail. I believe in know the law, learn the law and abide by the law and for the most part you ain’t got no problems. Ain’t no excuse if you got kids and bills to take care of and people depending on you, especially if you’re the bread winner of the family, goin to jail ain’t no place to be. If you’re a responsible individual, especially if you’ve been to jail, you ain’t trying to go back. You can’t do nothing in jail, you can’t make no money, you might get street cred but I don’t glorify that, that’s not a part of my personality, jail ain’t no place to be. It’s modern day slavery.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Nicki Tells Fans to Chill; Dave Chappelle SNAPS! Bobby V on a Farm

NICKI TELLS FANS TO CHILL!!

Nicki is known for her fashion flair, even she thinks her fan might be taking the fashion thing to far. I have to admit, I don’t think I’d let any of my 22 kids outta the house looking this ratchet. I heard that Nicki has two secret shows in New York tonight and then she is hosting DJ Envy’s big ol’ birthday bash. Shout out to DJ Envy, happy born day!

BOBBY V ON THE FARM

I’m just not sure what this is all about. Bobby V. got some shine on Love & Hip-Hop ATL, but not in a good way. Remember when Kirk got it poppin’ behind Rashida’s back in the hot tub with a few chickenheads? Well, it was Bobby V.’s crib. I guess the dude is doing pretty damn good. And now he has his own reality show coming out called FARM SCHOOL! I don’t know if Bobby is going to be on a farm or what, but he said his parents are going to be in the show with the rest of his family.

DAMN DAVE!!

Dave Chappelle is tripping!! A few days ago, he was performing in Connecticut and his set got interrupted by some hecklers. He was supposed to perform for 30 minutes on The Funny or Die tour. But the hecklers messed it up for almost 10,000 people and p##### Dave off. And he just sat there and refused to do any jokes. But he did read from a book an audience member gave him. The whole thing in itself sounds funny to me, but I didn’t pay to see it.

Study Values Detroit Music Industry at One Billion Dollars

(AllHipHopNews) There’s good news for Detroit, the city home to rappers Eminem, Big Sean, Royce Da 5’9″, Danny Brown, Doughboyz Cashout, and many more can now boast that music is once again one of its largest industries, due in part to a strong independent rap scene.

Despite a bankruptcy filing by the local city government, a study conducted for the business journal, Crain’s Detroit Business by Anderson Economic Group LLC, inventoried the number and types of music businesses and employees in Southeast Michigan found about 6,000 people employed in the local industry, earning a total $162.5 million in 2012. The number of establishments in the industry came out to be 486, with an average of 12 workers per establishment and total sales volume of $1.15 billion.

In addition to recording studios, the team also looked at bars and restaurants that host live music and music education. The biggest business category by employment size was by far the music venue category, with 3,500 workers, followed by music schools, which had 800 employees. Music supply stores and the artists themselves were other categories with substantial representations.

Howard Hertz, known as metro Detroit’s go-to lawyer for music industry matters, said the number sounded right. “We should shoot to double and triple it,” he said, through more concerted promotion efforts. Hertz and others said artists aren’t lacking for most of the resources they need — such as studios and talent — in metro Detroit. “Agents and major labels are scarce here, though,” he said.

Patrick Anderson, CEO of AEG also thinks the value of the industry is also driven by the value of the area’s brand — something that’s easy to forget about. “Music is part of Detroit’s brand. It’s easy for us here in Michigan to forget, but if you go to Europe or Asia and have a Detroit D on your shirt, they have a recognition that’s sometimes deeper than we have.”

The local industry is larger still, considering the large underground hip-hop scene that wouldn’t make appearances in most federal data, said Tom Gelardi, a marketing and promotions representative for Detroit rap artists. The scene supports independent retailers in Detroit such as Shantinique Music and Damon’s Record Center that still do good business despite the national near-obliteration of independent record stores since 2001.

EXCLUSIVE: Young Jeezy Sued By Soul Legend Leroy Hutson

(AllHipHop News) A legal war has broken out between soul music legend Leroy Hutson and rap giant Young Jeezy and producer Don Cannon, over a track on the “Trap or Die 2” mixtape.

Leroy Hutson filed the lawsuit in the U.S. District Court For the Northern District of Georgia ,on August 27.

Jeezy and Don Cannon are accused of illegally sampling portions of Leroy Hutson’s song “Getting It On” for Jeezy’s song “Time.”

According to the lawsuit, Leroy Hutson’s daughter was searching the Internet when she found the website, WhoSampled.com, which contains detailed listings of a variety of songs and where the original sample comes from.

To make matters worse, Leroy Huston claims Jeezy also made a video for “Time” and again, used the sample without the proper permission.

Young Jeezy and Don Cannon are accused of Copyright Infringement and Unjust Enrichment.

Leroy Huston is seeking a trial by jury to determine the damages, a full accounting and attorney fees.

Hip-Hop Rumors: What Rapper Was Knocked Out In A Club?

GUNPLAY KO’D?

There’s reports circulating that Maybach Music’s own Gunplay was performing at a club called Club Underground, when he got into it with some local rappers. I am not sure what sparked the beef, but someone said Gunplay got hit when he was trying to leave and he was knocked out. There’s a picture that supposedly shows Gunplay knocked out and being carried by a security guard. But to be honest, it doesn’t look like Gunplay was knocked out in this picture. It looks like he’s getting carried out but I don’t think he’s out cold.
