Meek Mill Vs. Gillie Da Kid? Meek Goes on Twitter Rant

(AllHipHop News) Who is the king of Philly? Meek Mill crudely eliminated Gillie Da Kid from that consideration seemingly with his late night/early morning Twitter rant.

Meek never says Gillie’s name but does make allusions to a false “King of Philly”, a title Gillie has not only embraced but also named a mixtape series after:

The two have collaborated previously, most notably on “Take Off” from Gillie’s mixtape with DJ Drama ironically titled King of Philly.

Exclusive: Gillie Da Kid Reconnects With Mannie Fresh on New Album

(AllHipHop News) In the second part of AllHipHop.com’s exclusive with Gillie Da Kid, he opened up about his new situation with Kansas City Chiefs’ Tamba Hali and Religion Records, as well as connecting with former label mate, Mannie Fresh.

Gillie looks at the new situation with Hali’s Religion Records as the next, logical step in his career.

“Everything we do is top-notch where as my marketing plan before was on an indie label,” Gillie told AllHipHop.com. “I don’t have the money that Tamba got. I was doing it and my look was still big, but now my look is humongous. The difference is before my look was a baby elephant, now I’m fully grown.”

Gillie also touched on locking back in the studio with his former associate Mannie Fresh for the Philadelphia native’s new album Welcome to Giladelphia.

“We going to give yall some of them hit records yall was supposed to get several years ago but you couldn’t get it,” Gillie explained to AllHipHop.com. “So we got back in there locked in, bout to bust you ni**as  heads open. It’s going to be a few ni**as sick … take it like a man.”

Gillie was signed to Cash Money Records in 2002, but the deal was short-lived due to a dispute with the label over publishing. Gillie left the label in 2004.

“It’s beautiful. Mannie Fresh is a ni**a  that makes hit records a ni**a with vision a ni**a  thats really responsible for the whole Cash Money run,” Gillie explained.

Welcome to Giladelphia is the new album by Gillie Da Kid, which is set for a 2014 release date.

Spike Lee Asks Fans To Fund New Movie, Blames Slow Industry

(AllHipHop News) A sentence involving Spike Lee, Veronica Mars and Zach Braff rarely ever happens. However, Spike Lee has joined Veronica Mars and Zach Braff as the latest celebrity to ask fans to help fund their next project for his untitled film about “blood addiction” that “isn’t a vampire movie.”

Spike Lee is currently campaigning for $1.25 million on popular crowdfunding platform Kickstarter.

Speaking with Variety, Lee attributes his inability to get Hollywood financing from big studios on the movie industry’s current preference for high budget blockbuster movies:

I understand now that, with the amount of money it costs to market a film, the studios need films that are going to be tentpoles. But I will go to my grave believing that there are still audiences that want something different. Not to eradicate these type of 3D, blow-up-the-world, ‘Transformers’-type movies. They’re cool, but now it seems like that’s the only thing they’re making.”

He also revealed that the current movie landscape would have made some of his previous movies impossible to make stating ““Universal would not make ‘Do the Right Thing’ today.”

Even George Lucas echoed similar sentiments in a 2012 interview about his movie Red Tails. According to Lucas the movie inspired by the all-Black Tuskeegee Airmen of World War II was delayed from being released due to race:

It’s because it’s an all-black movie. There’s no major white roles in it at all…I showed it to all of them and they said no. We don’t know how to market a movie like this.

Lee started his Kickstarter on July 21st and already raised over $92,000 with 28 days remaining. Check out and donate to Spike Lee’s Kickstarter campaign here

Non Hip-Hop Rumors: Ginuwine On Drugs? Slim Thug Overshares Again! [Video]

I saw this video and I didn’t think much of it. Maybe, that’s because I don’t care. Tyrese is the homey though. He’s been emailing me since there were rumors of him being “Power Man” in the movies. But, let me get to the point. There are rumors that Ginuwine was on that lean when he was on stage leaning for this performance of TGT. I didn’t see the whole big deal about the horrid performance, but once there were drug rumors, I jumped on it like the evil media I am. But, Ginuwine quickly dissed the rumors.

His responses were kind of drug addict-y. LOL! Anyway….

Here is the original performance video:

AND…SLIM THUG…

This dude is the ultimate over sharer. But that’s cool. I’ll never forget when he emailed me his HIV test results. That was when there were crazy rumors that somebody in Houston has AIDS. I guess, somebody will have to pass before we know who that was. Yesterday, Slim Thug revealed that he was having a vasectomy to make sure he didn’t have any more kids. Thanks, Slim.

He tweeted:

Signs The World Is Coming To An End: Cops Do Body Cavity Search Of Women On Highway!

They are bugging down there in Texas. A couple of women were coming home from the beach. They still had their bathing suits on when the cops pulled them over for speeding. This is over, open and shut right? No. The male cop calls for a female cop and they are going to open up more. They decide its a wise idea to do a cavity search of the women on the side of the highway. This basically means they felt their was cause that the women had weed in their vaginas or their buttholes. Priority Records Set To Make A Comeback With Just Blaze, Baauer & Harry Fraud

(AllHipHop News) Nearly 30 years ago Los Angeles was the site where one of the most historic Hip Hop labels was launched. Priority Records would go on to release music by legendary rap acts like N.W.A., Snoop Dogg, Master P, Ice-T, and Jay Z.

After a being bought by EMI in 1998 and then merged into Capitol Records in 2004, the label was subsequently shut down. Priority is now set to relaunch under the umbrella of Capitol Music Group and Insurgency Music. This time as a producer-centered label.

“I don’t come from the Hip Hop world, but the genesis of that label was really about supporting the indie level,” said new Priority president and co-founder of Insurgency Michael Cohen. “The emergence of the producer as an artist and brand within the global electronic music scene and beyond has heralded a paradigm shift in the way music is created, discovered, and spread.”

The first official release from the new Priority will be the song “Higher” by Hip Hop producer Just Blaze and “Harlem Shake” creator Baauer on August 13. The track features Jay Z’s voice. A video for the single is currently being shot by director Nabil Elderkin (Nas & Damian Marley’s “Patience”, Kanye West’s “Paranoid”).

It was also announced that producer Harry Fraud has signed his Surf School label to Priority. Fraud recently dropped his compilation mixtape Adrift with guest appearances by Rick Ross, Wiz Khalifa, Pusha T, Mac Miller, and others. He also released an EP with Action Bronson titled Saaab Stories in June.

“We’re so respectful of Priority’s important role in Capitol’s history,” said Steve Barnett Capitol Music Group chairman/CEO. “But it was also a street label focusing on music that thrives outside the mainstream. And that’s exactly what Michael and his team have been doing.”

Rolling Stone’s Controversial ‘Boston Bomber’ Cover Was To Originally Feature Kanye West

(AllHipHop News) The August 1, 2013 cover of Rolling Stone has created a firestorm of controversy. The iconic music magazine was hit with boycotts from retail stores like CVS, 7-11, and Kmart for featuring a photo of the Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev on the cover.

Critics argued that the rock star treatment was glorifying the alleged terrorist. Rolling Stone writer Matt Taibbi defended the magazine’s decision to put Tsarnaev on the cover pointing out that The New York Times used the same photo on its front page in May.

Turns out it was never originally intended for Tsarnaev to be the focal point of the issue in the first place. According to The Hollywood Reporter the editor’s first choice was for Kanye West to grace the cover of the August edition.

Apparently, West was scheduled to make his third appearance on the Rolling Stone cover but pulled out abruptly. THR sources say the early birth of his child with reality star Kim Kardashian and his refusal to talk about the baby on the record led to him not doing the interview.

Kanye’s two previous RS cover photos grabbed a lot of media attention as well. In 2006, Kanye went full Yeezus by donning a crown of thorns on the cover with a headline that read “The Passion of Kanye West,” and the following year Ye went face-to-face with 50 Cent on Rolling Stone as the two rap titans prepared for their infamous album sales battle.
