Hip-Hop Rumors: Guess How Much Jay-Z Will Make Before His Album Even Drops?

[twitter-follow screen_name=’AllHipHopcom’] [twitter-follow screen_name=’illseed’]

Holy Dough Stacks! Jay-Z is making Crazy MONEY off this new deal. Let me tell you something. This man is making asylum money. Check it. According to insiders, Jay is set to make about $5 million off the Samsung deal before his CD even drops. That’s off the deal alone and the “sales” associated with it. It is still unclear as to 1) what the price point was on the albums that Samsung, but you can do the math if they are saying he’s making $5 mill of $1million albums. And, will Billboard recognize it as such. I remember some rapper bought his own albums and hit iTunes. It didn’t count and he’s gone now. Anyway, I thought I would tell you that on this bright morning.

There isn’t a lot more to report on this Jay-Z stuff. Hopefully the music holds up to the money he’s made.

J. Cole Discusses Nas’ First Time Hearing “Let Nas Down”

(AllHipHop News) One of the most talked about tracks on J. Cole’s new album Born Sinner is the introspective “Let Nas Down.” On the song, Cole talks about how he got word from Nas, one of his musical inspirations, that the Queens legend was disappointed in the young emcee’s choice to release “Work Out” as a single from his first LP.

So what did Nas think of Cole’s song about letting down his idol? During a chance encounter on an airplane, Cole let Nas listen to the track.

“I played him the song, gave him my headphones. I was trying to hear what part of the song he was on,” said Cole in an interview with BET. “Like a minute into the song he was like ‘wooo’, beating my chair. Just overall he was wowed. The look on his face was like… honored that I would make that, highly impressed. That was a huge moment for me.”

J. Cole’s sophomore album Born Sinner is available for purchase today.

Non Hip-Hop Rumors: Will Instagram Introduce Video To Compete With Vine?

Oh nooooooooooooo…..!

This social media is getting out of control and Vine has changed the game. If you don’t know Vine is an app that gives you a few seconds to record video. Its short so basically people do nothing but goofy stuff or very choppy snipes of info. I even heard it gets raunchy with #vineafterdark.

ANYWAY, the point is, I am hearing that Vine is taking shine away from Instagram to the point where Instagram is looking to bring video to the fold. I don’t get on either a lot but it sounds like a complete game changer for the picture app…

Jay-Z Kind Of Addresses New Album Release Controversy, Kanye and J. Cole

(AllHipHop News) Jay-Z has not quite been a great adopter of social media, but he took to Twitter today to address a few things.

The rap mogul seemingly addressed the notion that he would sell 1 million units with a new deal with Samsung, a monolith in the wireless community.

“If 1 Million records gets SOLD and billboard doesnt report it, did it happen? Ha. #newrules #magnacartaholygrail Platinum!!! VII IV XIII,”
Jay tweeted June 17th.

Secondly, he promoted the efforts of his friend, Kanye West, and signee, J. Cole, who both have albums for release on Tuesday. The announcement of his new album Magna Carta Holy Grail seemingly overshadowed the release of his cohorts albums, Yeezus and Born Sinner.

“Kanye West “lead single” projected on buildings worldwide #newrules #magnacartaholygrail,”
he tweeted. “J Cole app for listening session. Don’t talk just listen..#newrules”

He even promoted Wale’s album.

“Wale up next week #newrules”

Jay admitted to an aversion to social media and seemed to joke that he would not tweet again until 2014.

“Ok that was my yearly allotment see ya’ll 2014..#newrules #magnacartaholygrail”

Chief Keef Arrested Again

(AllHipHop News) Rapper Chief Keef, known to law enforcement as Keith Cozart, was arrested mere blocks from the Skokie Courthouse right after he pleaded guilty to speeding.

The rapper was arrested for a misdemeanor trespassing charge and was reprimanded to the Grand Crossing District station in Chicago.
The rest of the details surrounding the most recent arrest are scant.

Prior to the arrest, the rapper was chastised by a judge and commanded not to drive.

The judge didn’t mince words with the rapper.

“You think you’re invincible, and you’re certainly not,” Violate and you’ll find out you’re not. … I sure hope I don’t see you again, because if I do you better be ready to go to jail,” said Judge Earl Hoffenberg.

The rapper could have been sentenced to a year in jail, but was granted leniency. He will have to undergo random drug testing, 60 hours of community service and 18 months probation. Also, he’ll need to complete eight hours of traffic school.

Controversy Ensues As Lil Wayne Steps On American Flag

(AllHipHop News) Lil Wayne is once again the subject of mass scrutiny has he has filmed a video where he steps all over the American flag.

Weezy’s new single “God Bless Amerika” has surfaced and the after a flag is hoisted up, it falls to the ground. At that point, the rapper continuously steps on it as he raps.

The footage appeared to be leaked from a cell phone.

During the shoot, Wayne is paces in front of a posse of children, in what appears to be an American housing project.

The content is uncharacteristically political.

Wayne raps, “My country ‘tis of thee/ sweet land of kill ‘em all and let ‘em die/ God bless Amerika/ This so godless Amerika … the stars on the flag are never shining.”

AHH REVIEW: Kanye West’s “Yeezus”

Yeezy Season is undoubtedly upon us with the release Kanye West’s sixth solo studio album – Yeezus.

Yeezus has been described as a minimalistic art piece where Kanye has thrown paint against the wall expecting us to decipher it. This time out Kanye decided not to directly build upon the musical foundation of his other two experimental releases- 808s and Heartbreaks and My Dark Beautiful Twisted Fantasy (MDBTF). Instead, he took elements away from them, namely elaborate and layered production, to give listeners said minimalistic sound in an apparent attempt to transcend hip-hop.

Wait a minute… Have we forgotten that Kanye has already transcended hip-hop, destroying anything that was expected from him, both with his two aforementioned projects in a grand fashion? Specifically, Kanye delivered the masterful MDBTF via long form video, elaborate album packaging, the G.O.O.D. Friday singles, a rich full bodied and brilliantly produced sound.

Yeezus is the exact opposite with no radio friendly singles, no video, and virtually no packaging as if Kanye is trying to not over do, but under do his previous work. Enter Kanye: the minimalist.

Kanye’s moderate approach to Yeezus is clearly established with “On Site.” The track rests exclusively on a bed of high hats and a synth loop. Lyrically, Kanye is ready to insight a riot amongst the complacent telling everyone that “a monster about to come alive again.” Its refreshing particularly because those sparse, electric lyrics are needed to complement the barren track.  One has to wonder if this is the actual track Kanye rhymed to or Daft Punk delivered to him. “On Sight” is somewhat reminiscent of how  Kanye opened 808’s with the powerfully scant “Say You Will.”

“Black Skinhead” pops up next. It is not reminiscent of anything Kanye has previous done and brings everything together a bit more. It continues a minimalist vision that manages to be fully realized and well executed at this point. It has no bright cords nor superfluous additions yet is not lacking a single piano riff or high hat. Kanye’s angst filled vocal delivery is all that is needed to elevate this song. This a gem of the album and Kanye didn’t offer this level of completeness in many other places save the full bodied “Guilt Trip (feat. Kid Cudi).”

Kanye moves on to”I Am A God (feat. God), which could have been the Magnum Opus of Yeezus dispelling all non-believers, but fails to close the deal. The track is daggers, its so on point lyrcially.  Hell, even God “speaks” through Kanye to deliver the first verse, giving a run down on the “State of Yeezy.” Nevertheless, it seems like a third of the production was left at home. The tracks starts of powerfully but plateaus quickly failing to give what was expected –– an epic song.

Thematically, this ground was covered on “Power,” which touched upon the same themes but is not quite as direct. “Power” was totally unexpected and broke the traditional boundaries of hip-hop both musically and visually. “I Am A God,” as a whole, seems to be a calculated step to the side if not backwards. Granted, it is not about redoing what has come previously –– it should be about surpassing it. That was not done here.

Minimalism really peaks on “New Slaves” where Kanye would rather be a d*ck than a swallower. This song is the most significant on the project due to song’s message and the context in which Yeezus is being released.  Kanye says:

“F**k you and your corporation/ Y’all n##### can’t control me”

Singles, video views and airplay is the cornerstone of the the major label music industry, but Kanye seems to be ’bout that antidisestablishmentarianism life.  Kanye Yeezus is a calculated “hell no” to all of that corporate goo. Not too many artists would attempt to do such a thing,  especially when they could actually pull off just about anything to promote their product.

We don’t really know why he’s taken this approach to promote.

But lets ponder it.

Perhaps there is a lack of focus? There could be self-imposed time constraints, or label pressures… or a grand master plan. He’s got the music media is eating directly out of the palm of his hand right now. On that front, Yeezy wins…

Critics jockeying for that Yeezy love are one thing. The album itself is another story.

Yeezus adds up to be Kanye’s most lyrically focused album yet.  That’s the reality. He purposely relies on dissident and under-produced tracks that simply do
not register as avant-garde. Yeezus should not come of as anything strikingly
new to anyone who truly knows his work. It all seems to basically deconstruct
his previous material.  In fact, Kanye probably already perfected the anti hip-hop, no-bright-cord sound on epic tracks like “Monster” where he previously redefined expectations. Yeezus is a good effort, but falls short of the masterpiece we were looking for. Those who want to call this his White Album are free to do so. Yeezus is exactly what he wanted it to be- something that no matter if you like it or not it cannot and will not be be ignored.

 AHH’s Ratings:

Lyricism –8/10

Production –6/10

Album Cohesiveness –7/10

Replay value –7/10

Overall –7/10

Hip-Hop Rumors: Lil Boosie May Never Come Home! The FEDS Ain’t Done!

[twitter-follow screen_name=’AllHipHopcom’] [twitter-follow screen_name=’illseed’]

Here is some SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!!

I got a bombshell of a rumor. Remember last month, I told you how Boosie was on his way home soon. And then I got rumors that said he’d be home sometime in the summer. Well, I have some new insider info on how they are moving on Boosie. First of all, people thought the boy Boosie was in the clear because he was acquitted of murder in one case. But, I am hearing there are two others on deck that they have not charged him for yet. But, they have witnesses and prosecutors on deck to bring Boosie right back into the legal gumbo he’s found himself in. From what I heard, they are simply going to charge Boosie with one charge at a time. This one still has him in jail. Soon as he is about to get out on his one, that he was acquitted for, boom! Another one. They get that guap from him and really stick it to him every step of the way in every way. One of the witnesses has turned his life over to God and says that God told him to tell the truth in these cases. That includes telling on Boosie.

Its about to get so very real for Boosie.

Trey Songz, Tyga, Nipsey Hussle and Draya Party at LA’s Toxic Day Party

It was just another Saturday in Hollywood at Lure Patio, filled with Draya’s “Fine Ass Girls” and music’s favorite artists and executives. The bottle wars were in full effect as Jas Prince, sans Christina Milian,  engaged in a bottle popping contest against Trey Songz. Not to mention, Houston Rockets’ James Harden stood on tables as he and Tyga wanted in on the action and ordered bottles of Ace of Spades Rose. Nipsey and his All Money In crew were also in the building as Nipsey celebrated a sold out House of Blues show the night before in Hollywood. They Bay Area’s Mistah FAB was also in the building rocking Pink Dolphin – also worn by Jeremiah, while Draya was wearing what appeared to be a custom bikini. At one point the hyped up Draya enjoyed her hosting duties as she jumped on the mic and hyped the crowd for a brief set with DJ BAD. The other “Fine Ass Girls” were in tow as the Seattle Seahawks enjoyed the show along with DeSean Jackson, JaVale McGee and YMCMB’s Cortez Bryant who were all in the building.

[twitter-follow screen_name=’AllHipHopcom’] [twitter-follow screen_name=’SkyyhookRadio’]

With his fingers in so many different pots within the music industry, Torae has mos def made his mark on Hip Hop in a profound way. Whether by his musical endeavors, or in his goal to spread the good Hip Hop word throughout the various platforms he has at his disposal, Torae has figured out how to come out on top of everything he attempts. He only continues to get better as an emcee and businessman as a result. His new project Admission Of Guilt is proof positive of that.  Please check out AllHipHop.com’s interview with Torae!

AllHipHop.com: Thanks so much for taking a few moments out for us sir, let’s jump straight on in! You’ve been working non stop Torae! Your fans probably have no idea how many different jobs you do in Hip Hop! Can you please let everyone know how many hats you wear in a day and what it’s like to be working this hard on so many different levels of this industry?

No problem thanks for having me. I definitely wear a few different hats, usually Knicks & Yankees though (laughter). No seriously aside from being an MC, I run my own company Internal Affairs Entertainment. I have this dope rapper signed named Torae, he’s a beast. I also A&R for Soulspazm Records which is a independent label & distribution company. Lastly, every Sunday evening at 10pm ET you can hear me cracking the mic as an on air personality on SiriusXM’s Hip Hop Nation on “Rap Is Outta Control” with DJ Eclipse.

images (1)

AllHipHop.com: Lot’s of hats! (Laughter) Okay T, switching gears a little bit, we see that you are also a movie star! How did you come to be in the DEMOS documentary that’s dropping now?

I’m not a star, somebody lied. I think I got approached about doing an interview for Demos about 2 or 3 years ago during A3C. Anything I can do to help new artists & further the culture I’m always down for so I agreed. Then once my manager Soul Wallace got involved I knew my scenes wouldn’t end up on the cutting room floor.

AllHipHop.com: That’s a cool story, Soul Wallace is a keeper no doubt!  Alright, you have a new project out, talk to us about this project a bit. What inspired it, and who is a part of it? Will you be touring in support of it?

Yes, my new project “Admission of Guilt” is available now for free download. This is the 1st time I’ve released a free project so I’m hoping a lot more people are inclined to check it out. I have a few collaboration on it, some expected & some aren’t. I’m most proud of the features from hip hop royalty Bun B. & Pharoahe Monch. It’s an honor to have songs with them in my catalog. Other features include Skyzoo, The Kid Daytona, Torch of Triple C’s & Uncle Murda. As far as touring, I’m actually replying to these questions in route to Houston from New Orleans on tour with Coast 2 Coast & Red Café. So yes, I am currently touring to support Admission of Guilt.

AllHipHop.com: Is there a specific message that you hope your music reflects to the listeners?

The message varies from song to song, release to release but overall my music reflects my life. I feel my life isn’t much different from a lot of other people and I’d like to provide the soundtrack to whatever you’re going through & experiencing at any given moment.

AllHipHop.com: What is one thing the fans don’t know about you that you wish they did?

That I speak fluent Japanese (laughter), nah that’s a good question. I guess that I listen to and am influenced by so much different music, some stuff you probably wouldn’t believe. So when I make my music I like to experiment & explore different stuff since I’ve continually given you my foundation up to this point.

AllHipHop.com: Actually, I can imagine, my ipod is not for the faint of heart either! (laughter) Cool! Can you give us three words that describe you as an artist?

3 words? Dylan, Dylan & Dylan! Either that or Fun, Fly & Free.

AllHipHop.com: (Laughter) OK, got it. So,what’s in the pipeline for you at the moment? Who are you working with and what can we expect?

Well due to the overwhelming demand by the fans Skyzoo & I are finally going to deliver that “Barrel Brothers” album we’ve been getting asked for since forever. Aside from that expect me to get back over to Europe to tour before the end of 2013. I’m also looking to drop a few videos to support Admission of Guilt.

AllHipHop.com: Dope! Please tell the people how they can keep up with you!

Keep up with moi? Good luck! Nah please feel free to follow @torae on twitter & instagram, like me on facebook.com/itstorae & stay updated on www.itstorae.com Thanks for your time & continued support Skyy.

Thanks again to Torae for taking a minute out for us! You guys be sure to keep looking out for his new project!
