Mitchy Slick Stands Up For San Diego

Having released his last album, Feet Match the Paint, in late April and set to release his next one Won’t Stop on June 18, San Diego’s Mitchy Slick is on a mission to further establish himself as an independent force on the West Coast. Although he’s been a member of the group known as Strong Arm Steady (along with Krondon, Phil Da Agony and sometimes Xzibit), Mitchy has actually been putting in work on his own since 2001 with the release of his debut Triggeration Station – a gritty album that gave rap fans an insight to the existence of the widely overlooked dangerous side of San Diego, CA. As the head of his own label, Wrong Kind Records, Mitchy Slick is working with a slew of young artists from the area they call “Daygo,” in efforts to give the region opportunities that he feels that the music industry is ignoring and sleeping on. AllHipHop.com caught up with the Wrong Kind label head to chat about this and more.

AllHipHop.com: I remember the craziness surrounding the release of the Strong Arm Robbery mixtape with Damu years ago. People were getting shot and there was all sorts of drama in San Diego.

Mitchy Slick: At the time there was so much stuff going on and it wasn’t necessarily because of my CD’s. Matter of fact it wasn’t that at all. There was a lot of stuff going on at the time in the city and the finger got pointed at us. They put it on me basically blaming the violence on our CD. At the time, a couple of innocent ladies were murdered in my neighborhood right in front of a liquor store and there was a back and forth shooting. Damu, who made the CD with me, even got shot the day it was released. But the music did show a side of San Diego that the powers that be didn’t want the world to see. I was basically doing the same thing that Cube, Pac, Snoop, Game, 50 Cent and Mobb Deep were doing – telling street stories. They weren’t feeling that though. They weren’t with me telling San Diego’s part of the story because San Diego is a crazy place when it comes to the demographics. With all of the businesses that are in San Diego, the urban side of it is hidden and you can’t tell how big it really is. That even extends to how Hip-Hop is supported there. It’s not a coincidence that nobody has made it really big out of San Diego. There is a reason for that. Bro, we don’t even have an urban radio station out here. Look at all of the cities that have artists that are moving. They all have that outlet or some type of independent movement.

AllHipHop.com: The Triggeration Station CD was an eye opener for me. I didn’t know that side of San Diego even existed. It was all just Sea World and Beaches to me. I had no idea it was that crazy like that over there.

Mitchy Slick: What’s crazy is that by traveling you get to see how much the rest of the country doesn’t know about places like Fresno, Stockton and a bunch of other little cities. It’s not just San Diego. I’m talking about off the chain stuff. A lot of artists go to Stockton and it will be the only place they’ve been robbed.

AllHipHop.com: You’ve been chilling in Los Angeles for a minute. Do you feel like an outsider there?

Mitchy Slick: Yeah but the artists themselves don’t make me feel like that. Nipsey Hussle, Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, Dom Kennedy, Pac D## and all of the other cats show love. With Krondon, I’m a part of the Likwit Crew. I don’t [feel like an outsider] amongst the artists but in the streets I do to a certain degree. It’s hard being in Los Angeles with them being such a powerhouse. It’s no coincidence that the two cats that Dr. Dre put the stamp on and blew up are from Compton. I talk about things that nobody wants to. I put out records independently. Wrong Kind Records is at full speed right now. We keep it gangsta and keep sh*t going in the streets. I’m also rolling with Empire Distribution. They’re helping me get things crackin’ in this internet era of promotions.

AllHipHop.com: How is Strong Arm Steady? You guys still moving along?

Mitchy Slick: Yeah we’re still getting it in, but right now we are concentrating on solo sh*t. We are all featured on everyone else’s sh*t but we’re together all of the time. That’s my family. Krondon just put out a free album that’s dope as sh*t, man. Phil is doing stuff overseas. I’m working with the young cats on my Wrong Kind label. You know, it’s the music business man and we’ve been doing this sh*t forever.

Hip-Hop Rumors: A-Trak Says F**k It! Disses Jay-Z and Samsung!

[twitter-follow screen_name=’AllHipHopcom’] [twitter-follow screen_name=’illseed’]

YOOOOO! Respect to DJ A-Trak. He used to DJ for Kanye and he seemed to confirm what some people speculated. That Jay-Z’s timing could not have been more odd with this new Samsung announcement. We all know that Jay-Z has a penchant for timing. Well, A-Trak didn’t mince words and in an epic tweet called the whole thing “corny.”

ALSO SEE: Jay-Z To Drop Album “Magna Carta Holy Grail” on July 4th, Samsung To Give 1 Million Away For Free (VIDEO)

Now, I don’t agree. They bought a million copies of the new Jay-Z album so Jay is instantly platinum. What’s f**kin with that?

And then he RT’d this:

Which lead to this:

What happened with Jay and A-Trak? Did he steal his girl or something more sinister?

Either way, it was a G-move by the DJ even if we don’t know why.

Still, nothing corny about big business moves.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Wiz Khalifa Cheating Scandal!

I saw this last week, but it looked so foolish, I looked past it. But, this one is gaining steam as you know, people tend to jump on happy people in their happy relationships and try to make them miserable like the rest of us.

The long story short is that Wiz allegedly put his number in the comments section of his presumed jump-off and asked her to call him.

Here is the instagram look.

w11

Here is the plea copped. I don’t think I can rock with this “hacked” excuse. Why do people use that feeble reasoning? I do think Wiz is on the up and up though, because he’s a cool Cap. Why would any dude put a comment like that on Instagram? Wiz ain’t that dumb.

WizResponse

Finally, here is the chick he allegedly cheated on with. Now, she famous.

w3

According to Bossip, Wiz started liking all her pics and then….

w2

At the end of the day, Wiz didn’t cheat even if he did put his real number in the comments section of Instagram. I don’t him being that dumb.

50 Cent’s ‘Power’ TV Show Headed To Starz In 2014

(AllHipHop News) Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson’s new series Power, the story of a wealthy nightclub owner in New York City, was picked up by Starz for its 2014 programming schedule. The show was created by Courtney Kemp Agboh (The Good Wife, The Bernie Mac Show), and 50 will be one of the program’s executive producers.

“This is a passion project for me, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to have found a home with Starz. I look forward to working with this incredibly talented team on making Power a hit show,” said 50.

Power centers around James “Ghost” St. Patrick a businessman who is trying to build his brand into an empire. His main complication to achieving that goal is his other profession. Ghost is also the city’s biggest drug kingpin. The husband and father most figure out how to leave his criminal life behind and transition into the legit world.

“We are thrilled to add Power to our growing original programming lineup for 2014,” said Starz CEO Chris Albrecht. “There is a rawness and soul to the character of Ghost as he struggles to live between these two worlds that we believe will leave an indelible mark on the audience and stay with them after the credits roll.”

Power was commissioned for 8 episodes by StarzCBS Television Studios will produce the program with Jackson, Mark Canton (300), and Randall Emmett (16 Blocks) serving as executive producers. Kemp Agboh will also take on the position of showrunner.

“Starz has given our team an opportunity to explore a world of beauty, luxury, danger and death, all against the struggle of one man to define his nature and his soul,” said Courtney Kemp Agboh. “While the power and peril of Ghost’s world are specific, we hope to address the truly universal questions we all face when we look in the mirror: who am I? Where am I going? Who do I want to become?”

Production for Power is set to begin later this year. The series will debut in 2014.

Kanye West Debuts ‘American Psycho’ Projection [VIDEO/ AUDIO]

(AllHipHop News) Kanye West continued his non-traditional rollout of his new album Yeezus this weekend. His latest effort was debuting a new visual inspired by the 2000 Christian Bale film American Psycho. The 2-minute clip was projected on a building in Los Angeles during an album listening party.

Kanye’s version stars Kardashian clan member Scott Disick and family friend Jonathan Cheban. Disick stars as Bale’s “Patrick Bateman” character and Cheban takes on the role of “Paul Allen” originally played by Jared Leto. The short film is an homage to the movie’s “Do you like Huey Lewis and the News?” scene where Bateman murders Allen with an ax.

This is not the first time Kanye has shown he is a fan of the film adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’s serial killer novel. Back 2008, Kanye appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and shared that American Pyscho was also inspiration for his 808s and Heartbreak album and the video for “Love Lockdown.”

“On [808s and Heartbreak] I kind of embody Patrick Bateman from American Psycho, ” said West. “You know at the end of the movie [that] he didn’t really kill anyone. [I just liked] the clean aesthetic and the way he was all about labels. I wanted to express all of that in the [‘Love Lockdown’] video.”

Hip-Hop Rumors: How Kanye West And Kardashian Tricked The Media!

Rumor has it, Kim and Kanye gave a false due date on purpose to throw off the media. Makes sense. They were bound to have a circus around them anyway, but the open revelation of a due date would have only added to that. So, sources say Kim purposely put a date out there so that people would be looking 4-5 weeks in the future and they sneakily had a lil girl Yeezy!

Some have theorized that Kanye dropped the album so that the massive press would promote the album while he chills with the kid and Kim. That’s just talk though.

Well, this part ain’t no news flash. Word on the street is that Kanye and the Kim Kardashian Krew are hype to have their new baby in the fam. Hey, that’s great news. It would be awful to catch a rumor that somebody was somehow miserable with this new bundle of joy. There are some other things floating around. And yes, we’ll probably be writing about this kind from now til…infinity. :/

Here are some things floating out there. Kim had to have a C-section to get the child out. The baby girl arrived 5 weeks early.

Apparently, Kris Kardashian has a talk show coming out soon. It has been speculated that she hopes to break first images of the kid on her show.

Kanye and Kim have reportedly moved into the Kardashian Kompound.

Hip-Hop Rumors: WHAT? Karrine ‘Superhead’ Steffans Begins To Ether Yung Berg

DAMN! That was fast! When we last talked to Yung Berg about Superhead, he kept it 100.

“Karrine is just the homie, it ain’t nothing more, nothing deeper, she’s not my girlfriend,” he told AllHipHop.com. “I know I’ve seen people say that we’re dating and all this other stuff, but that’s not the case, she’s just the homie, smoke, drink, hang out, talk s### type of vibe.”

But, peep! Now, Superhead has straight up turned on the boy Berg! She’s gonna use him as the footstool to her next damn book! Peep what I saw on Rhymes With Snitch!

This week, after posting pictures of Yung Berg with a gaggle of groupies [not including herself] Karrine calls Berg an abusive drunk who slapped her, choked her and pushed her around.

Yung Berg: From Underdog Rapper To Dope Ghost Writer

At age 15, Yung Berg burst on the scene making all the sexy ladies swoon with those green eyes. Signed to DMX’s Bloodline records, Yung Berg’s first single “Sexy Lady” led to a deal with Epic Records for the release of 2008’s Look What You Made Me, which he co-produced. In addition to spawning the gold hit, “The Business”, the album’s centerpiece became “Sexy Can I” the platinum smash co-written with Ray J. Made famous for his rapping, and infamous for cumbersome rumors and headlines, he has long since been a force behind the music as a songwriter and producer. Though seemingly adolescent in age, Berg’s pen game has cemented him a place among some of the biggest and best names in the business.  Among his most notable writing credits are Tamar Braxton’s 2013 hit “The One”, King Louie’s “My Hoes Do Drugs” (Featuring Juicy J and Pusha T), Lil Wayne’s “John” (Featuring Rick Ross) and T-Pain’s “B###### Link Up” as well as titanic tracks from young upstarts such as Driicky Graham’s breakout “Snapbacks and Tattoos”. A proven hit maker, Yung Berg is all grown up now and has a lot to say and he’s using every artist possible to express himself. Berg took a little time out to talk to AllHipHop.com about his passion for crafting songs.

AllHipHop.com: People know you as a rapper so to see the list of R&B songs you’ve written is surprising. Is it hard for people to wrap their brains around you as an R&B songwriter?

Yung Berg: I think that I was so young, I’m 26 now, when my 1st album came out 5 years ago and I wasn’t aware of how I wanted to be seen if I was more seasoned I would’ve been doing interviews with AllHipHop.com and telling you guys if you like my album and you check out the song “The Business” or if you like the song “Sexy Lady” then you would see I wrote all the R&B parts for all of that if you look at my album, Trey Songz is on my album, Lloyd is on my album, Amerie is on there and I wrote all the R&B parts that they sang as well, so I think that I didn’t really get across to the masses that I was actually the writer and producer of my songs I think that when people seen me I was just a cute lil dude with green eyes and it seemed like ok maybe some A&R just gave this guy these records and he added some rap in the middle or something which was totally not the case. I was crafting records myself. I think my first song writing placement was when I wrote the hook to the title track of Eve’s Evolution album when I was like 16, so I’ve been doing this for awhile.

AllHipHop.com: What does a 16 year old know about writing love songs?

Yung Berg: I would credit that to my mom being the best multi-tasker in the world. While she would be driving me to school, talking on the phone, smoking a cigarette, and smacking my brother in the back of the head, she would be singing Anita Baker and playing all these older records that resonated with me on a different level. I didn’t know it at the time but I think it kinda bled into my life the melodies and things of that nature and I just fell in love with melodies from there.

AllHipHop.com: You’ve worked with such a wide array of artists how do you differentiate when you’re writing for a Lil Wayne vs. Tamar Braxton?

Yung Berg: The way I work is I go into the studio and I get f*#ked up and I write songs. So that particular day I went to the studio with a partner of mine and on that particular record I wanted to do it over again because I felt like the “Juicy” drums every 4-5 years become relevant again, whether its Keyshia Cole or Biggie or whomever, so I already had it in my head that I wanted to bring that back so we created the music and once we got to the studio we just filled it in and I didn’t know it was gonna be Tamar’s song to be honest, we just did it.

AllHipHop.com: Has there been anyone who doubted your ability when you walked in the studio whose mind you had to change?

Yung Berg: I think I have the opportunity to do that everyday when I just go to work with different people because their misconceptions or people not having the full information on who I am as a writer and a producer as well so I think I overcome those odds everyday and at the same time I welcome that as well because it gives me a chance to win people over because it makes them say I had a totally different perception of you, you’re nothing like Media Takeout or Worldstar portrays.

AllHipHop.com: In today’s musical climate of twerk it music versus the days of Marvin Gaye how do you keep a song sexy and romantic as a songwriter? And do you feel that any of your stuff has been disrespectful?

Yung Berg: I’m a lover. I love women up and down, so with the content it just varies. I’m also human so sometimes I might go in the studio and tell you my hoes do drugs and then the next day I might feel like I’m in love and I want to write a song like the Tamar Braxton song. I don’t think people give me due credit because I’ve also helped break artists with my songs like if you look at one of the biggest songs last year was “Snap Backs and Tatoos and I produced and co-wrote that record and no one knows that, but nobody knew Driickey Graham was before that he was just a kid who was hanging out with me and we made that record and it took off, same with Kid Ink.

AllHipHop.com: Being from Chicago, how do you feel about your homeboy Kanye West and his Yeezus album?

Yung Berg: I think Kanye is very artistic and when you’re dealing with people that are artistic they’re gonna be scrutinized and they’re gonna be taken literal but I don’t think Kanye thinks he’s Jesus or anything like that I think he has a clear distinction of who God is but I also think you can’t put any limitations on art. A lot of people might view it like he’s being an a###### or whatever but at the end of the day its art and he’s taking nothing and making it into something. That’s the beauty of what we do, you’re able to go to the studio and not have any idea of what you’re gonna do and then watch something grow right in front of your eyes from a thought or an idea into a full fledged project so at the end of the day I just think Kanye is doing Kanye and that shouldn’t shock anyone.

AllHipHop.com: Which of your records surprised you the most?

Yung Berg: Honestly there’s this song I gave to T-Pain that I went in to just do a rap hook over and it turned into a record that’s going crazy in Miami right now. When I wrote the song I was being a f*#kin creep because I was on instagram and its these girls called Taz’s angels and I love them and I never met them before but they’re so bad and I would just look at their pics and be like these girls need a song and their slogan was bad b###### link up so, me being who I am,  I was like what other way can I get on their radar so they can know me and know how much I like them so I made a song called “Bad B###### Link Up” and I played it for T-Pain and Trey Songz jumps on it and Juicy J jumps on it an now its their little anthem and they go crazy to it every night.

AllHipHop.com: Do you feel like an underdog?

Yung Berg: I would say yea to a certain extent, but that would be selfish and me not thinking about all of the blessings that God has done for me like I don’t even think people realize like “Sexy Can I” that was 6 ½ million, “John” for Rick Ross and Lil Wayne that was 3 ½ million, “Sexy Lady” platinum, “The Business” platinum. Every song I’ve ever been affiliated with was either gold or platinum, so maybe an underdog in perception, but I’ve done great for myself in the music business so I can’t complain.

Kanye Exonerated; Groupie Admits To Lying

(AllHipHop News) A Canadian model now admits she lied on Mr. West after saying that the rapper cheated on girlfriend Kim Kardashian with her.

Leyla Ghobadi was paid a reported $20,000 for giving the Star and exclusive scoop that said Kanye was cheating. Now, she has changed her story in a new interview with the UK Sun paper. The initial story broke Wednesday of this week.

She admits to a tryst but says it was before Kanye met Kim Kardashian.

“I was introduced to him at the Montreal concert. We met backstage as I knew members of his band. We ended up having sex at the Thompson Hotel,” she told the The Sun. “He then flew some friends and I out to Toronto for his two concerts in the next two days. We had sex again there. This was all before Kim Kardashian and he never spoke about her. But what I do know is that Kanye is a Romeo — he can never be trusted.”

Ghobadi initially said that she and Kanye had discussed Kim.
“He told me . . . he wanted to ‘hook up,’ but I was concerned that he was seeing Kim Kardashian,” she had told Star magazine. “He told me that [their relationship] was for publicity and nothing serious.”

Despite her admitted contractions and lies, she maintains that she knows Kanye’s ways.

“He will never be faithful to one girl and has women falling at his feet all the time,” she continued to the Sun.

She also claims that Kanye tried to reach out to her through his bodyguards.

Kanye denied the allegations from the beginning. A rep for the rapper/producer said, “This most recent attack on Kanye West and his family is totally without merit. It’s a blatant attempt by a misguided individual who is clearly seeking publicity, and another in a series of malicious stories drummed up by non-credible ‘news’ sources. This is a sad attempt to hurt two people trying to live their lives.”

Hip-Hop Rumors: What Is Jay-Z’s Major Announcement? Kanye West Rumors!

Jay-Z stays winning. Now, the rap mogul man has another trick up his sleeve, which will supposedly be this new big music streaming service with Samsung. Well, I thought that cat was way out of the bag. Apparently, it is not. While there are a number of reports that have verified there is something on the horizon, nothing has formally been announced. Insiders speculate that it will be announced sometime tomorrow.

ITS THE ROC!

Is Kanye riding on the bootleggers!

There are a couple sites that are offering links to download Kanye West’s new album. From what I’m hearing, the boy Yeezy and his lawyers are not playing with ’em. I’ve been told that certain sites have been told to cut the links or be terminated off the face of the internet. I’m speaking about one site in particular, but they shall remain nameless at this point.

Seems like there was some fact behind the notion that Kanye was going to call this Yeezus album “American Psycho.” Why? Because Kanye and future brother-in-law Scott Disick premiered a movie of that name recently. And they premiered it on a wall in Hollywood. Peep what The Rap-Up got.

Mind you, American Psycho is already a move that starred the dude that played Dark Knight, Christian Bale.

I dunno. I guess I need to check the video. But, I’m trying to care.
