Hip-Hop mogul Russell Simmons will be honored next month at a reception and program presented by the New York Police and Fire Widows and Children’s Benefit Fund.The 22nd annual event, which will take place November 13 at the New York Hilton, will kick off with a cocktail reception at 6 p.m.A dinner and program featuring entertainment and special guests will follow at 7:30 p.m.Simmons will be recognized by various city leaders including Benefit Fund chairman Daniel J. “Rusty” Staub, New York City fire commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta, New York Police Department commissioner Ray Kelly and Fund board president and Weil, Gotshal and Manges LLP chairman Stephen J. Dannhauser.Since its inception in 1985, the Benefit Fund has distributed more than $96 million to the families of New York City police and fire personnel who have been killed in the line of duty.Although it was initially created to help families of New York City police officers and firefighters, the Benefit Fund has expanded to help the families of Emergency Medical Services and Port Authority officers.A portion of the money will benefit Officers who helped secure New York after the September 11, 2001 terror attacks on The World Trade Center. In addition to Simmons, the Benefit Fund will celebrate the launch of its Answer the Call campaign.Individual tickets for the event begin at $750.In related news, Simmons’ Hip-Hop Summit Action Network will stop in Atlanta on November 3 on the financial empowerment ‘Get Your Money Right’ international tour at Morris Brown College.Simmons and individuals including Jermaine Dupri, Yung Joc, T-Pain, Cassidy, LeToya Luckett, Huey, Belly, Young Berg, Bryan-Michael Cox, Lil X, Free, Dr. Benjamin Chavis and others will offer young people financial advice about today’s economic market.The free event take place at Morris Brown College’s John Lewis Gymnasium from noon - 3:30 p.m.
