Hip-Hop Rumors: Chuck D And Public Enemy Declined Jay-Z For Made In America!

This is crazy! Why would they do such thing? Chuck D and Public Enemy reportedly turned down Jay-Z (and Budwieser) for a slot on the Made In America Tour!

Here is what PE frontman Chuck D said:

“I know I’m made in America but I’m really made on the planet. I’m not made by America, or in it. So, we like to protest and be difficult. But I salute them for bringing Rap music to the forefront and being able to have Run-DMC to get that slot.”

Chuck seemed to slick diss Jay and Ye in other parts of the interview.

“It’s really very important that hip-hop and rap music supports the people,” Chuck D said. “’Catch the Thrown’ is very obvious in the lyrics. It’s like who’s gonna catch the people who are thrown at, thrown under and thrown to the side? And ‘watching the throne’ is a little arrogant elitism that we’ve always shot down.”

From what I remember, Chuck D and PE have always been rebels (with a cause). It’s dope that they have NEVER changed.

    • Never have & Never will!
I believe this rumor %100. Chuck D won’t sell St. Ides or Budweiser!

Keeping it real may get Chuck D deeper in debt, but his beliefs are worth more than a check!

      • when u dont waist your money on maybachs, audemars, plat and gold chains, drugs, designer cloths etc … debt shouldnt be an issue evenfor some one with the most modest salary …..

      • Not sure what an audemars is, but yeah, but…that’s not the only reason they go broke.

Keep in mind that the industry is designed to keep the artist in debt.

      • RBG4Life

just about everything that concerns money seems designed to keep a person in debt.

      • Google Videos : “Monopoly Men : Federal Reserve Fraud ( or something, like 45:00mins. )

Money = Promise on Human Labor ( Standardized Unit of Trade )

All money = Loaned into existence….with Interest
( Islam calls it “Usury”, or committing “Shirk”?)

Jesus turned over the money changers’ tables & chased them out the temple with a stick.

( Could safely assume that he was whuppin’ that a$$ with it, since the money changers didn’t pick up their bread when they left, they were just picking up their lumps from Jesus’s stick. )
*Only time Jesus ever got iLL in the bible…..was on the bankers.

With all dollars being loaned into existence, ( Variable interest rate but…..) the “MONEY” to pay off the interest is also loaned, with an interest rate that has to be borrowed to pay back, with interest, that has to be…… & so on.

Yea chuck d keeps it way too real. I still don’t get how flavor flav ended up part of his click..

      • Nah, back then, Flav wasn’t like that.
        Operation Crackola fugged him up!

      • hoeyuno

I always figured he used flav as a tool to get the youths attention. Like what krs claims he used criminal minded for. Unfortunately flavs hard rock life started so early in his 15 minutes the man never really had a chance to show us his other side.

      • Kinda, Flav was like Ja Rule to DMX, a Hype man. He wasn’t smoking back then, but then, he did. I remember when he got booked for chasing his nieghbor with a pump on 165th & Grand Concourse. ( Executive Towers ) It was all downhill from their.

      • LetsBeRealpeople

The only thing, I have seen him back pedal on is Elvis. He has done EA Sports, but who can fault that, for the most part he has kept it on the level. In that idea of Hip Hop high moral ish. Grif’ may have ish to day, pends on how you look at it.

      • He might have backpedaled on Elvis….but he still stepped all over him! LOL

Chuck is a MAN who believe’s in his message. It’s not sold to the highest bidder. That’s why he is a legend and his music will live long after his death. A man is based off his actions alone…believe that!

Being stuck in 1996 is awesome. I’m glad that’s working out for you.

      • LetsBeRealpeople

Coming from someone not born in time to know what they are talking about. Disregard this ma’fa y’all.

      • Jim Beam

You have no idea when I was born. Why are people so stupid ?

      • LetsBeRealpeople

Nah, man I say my comment is pretty g’damn astute, given that if your were conscience at the time of 1996, you would know better to call somebody stuck. You don’t even need to pick a regime to know what that time period means to Hip Hop to this day.

      • lol what time you still liven inn JIM BEAM hahaha

    • I used to have this attitude, too, then I grew up.

      • scullyson

        lmao

  • TruthSerum

Chuck has integrity. To be honest I view Jay-Z as the complete opposite of everything Public Enemy ever stood for. I’m a fan of both of them but If I ever saw Chuck doing business with Jay I would lose massive amounts of respect for him, it would be a total contradiction of everything he ever stood for. Chuck was “Mr. Anti-Establishment” his whole career taking stands & preaching positive messages while Jay is a former dope dealer-turned rapper-turned businessman/politician who will smile & kiss as many babies as it takes to make people forget his criminal image that got him where he is & get himself in the room with Warren Buffet. There are no 2 people in the world as different as Chuck & Jay. Chuck would be leading a protest outside of an unfair business and Jay would be inside trying to figure out how he could become a partner in it, lol, it is what it is

    • Jay Z’s “criminal past” is MINUTE compared to that of many other rappers. I agree with you on most of this post, but you lost me on the whole bit about Jay trying to “make people forget about his criminal past”… Nobody ever cared about it.

      • TruthSerum

The people he is in business with now would tho. Jay’s image today is like Bill Cosby more or less, Warren Buffet wouldn’t be so open to working with him in his “Reasonable Doubt” days and Jay has spent the last 5-6 years working a complete makeover of himself to distance himself from it. I really wasn’t trying to hate either, I guess it came out wrong, lol

      • hoeyuno

Exactly. Business people are about making money and could care less how a man learned his business skills 20 odd years ago.

  • its funny to see this article … i live in delaware so im connected with alot of folks up in philly … and alot of those folks felt like that concert came and went and didnt do a darn thing for the city

    • brotha_man

its prob like wyclef and haiti…say its for one thing but really its to make their pockets fat.

    • LetsBeRealpeople

It’s more like a paid advertisment in the form an article…per anything “M.I.A” I’m shocked the cat who wrote this is printing this fallout. However, bad press is better than no press. The mayor may have got some kick back, but this was a sponsored event produced by an outsider. Corps have their own crew and concession. So follow the money. Maybe they had to bring in the local IATSE, but you can get around that too. So, yeah, Philly probably didn’t get anything except traffic delays.

  • James

Quite honestly, what’s the point of “announcing” that you turned down the offer? We didn’t know you got the opportunity before the show, the show was spectacular without you, and I doubt the fans were thinking,”hmmm…this would have been perfect if PE were here.” I just don’t get the point Chuck. What? They didn’t cut a bigger check?

    • I’m sure our soldiers in afghanastan are thinking the same thing about this so-called war on terror. bunch of mindless puppets

  • hoeyuno

Chuck just mad cause white kids rock the mic now…. Ha ha

    • LetsBeRealpeople

..and you would do yourself good to know Chuck D’s relation to people, all people, before yo go tossing some g’damn lies on him. Way more worthy of air and purpose than you any given day.

      • hoeyuno

I was joking, not trying to make you cry.
