Is Slaughterhouse Over As A Group?

The word on the street is that Slaughterhouse might be done as a unit. Their “newest” album was done over two years ago and nothing has come out. Meanwhile, Royce Da 5’9″ is the talk of the town with his new song “Tabernacle” and saying Drake’s ghostwriters invalidate him as one of the greats. Anyway, the other members have been active in other ways. Joe has the podcast and dropped an album last year – All Love Lost. Crooked I (KXNG Crooked ) recently released Statik KXNG with producer Statik Selektah. Joell Ortiz just released a full album That’s Hip-Hop with producer Domingo. SOOOOOOOOOO….these incredibly talented dudes cannot get a release date for a group event, but have all these “smaller” project out? Why? I don’t know for certain, but source with AllHipHop say it lies with Eminem’s camp. Word is, Eminem and his manager Paul Rosenburg cannot seem to get an “industry” foothold in for the group to come out. Does that make sense? Basically, the buzz is low. I don’t think this is a case of the album being wack or anything. I personally think that the times have changed and how people see lyricists has changed as well. Others have stated that Jimmy Iovine moving from Interscope to Apple may have some bearing on it too. Lets face it, Eminem is somewhere sitting on half a billion or something, chillin’ and his guys are out here doing it for the culture. Facts.

Hopefully, Slaughterhouse returns in glorious form, but if they don’t, there is PLENTY stuff out there to support RIGHT NOW.

So…check out “Tabernacle.”

    • Inmadopicouroz✓QUEENSᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

they were nice 7 summers ago……….

  • vanilla isis

nvr was a slaughterhouse fan but now with all the individual albums out i might do my homework on them

  • yomomma

i hope it is,so joell ortiz can focus on his solo career

  • RayStantz

Besides a few songs on their various group projects, I just think the whole delivery of the songs are sloppy and I’m a fan. Some songs are nothing but lyrics, others seem like they reaching trying to get a certain demographic instead of sticking to their strong points. They need to learn how to put songs together as a group better and that really only comes with volumes of work together. Get on them mixtapes heavy and just put out work until they find their niche. Nice as soloist but together they sound sloppy at times. Just my opinion… some diehard fan will come and dispute this in a few minutes lol.

  • Live Well

They never had a real identity besides being 4 lyrical dudes who Eminem got behind.

  • D_Ably

This was bound to happen the min they signed to Shady. Most rappers on other rappers labels have to get by on a diet of shelf dust. What rappers need to do is sign to people who want to run a label and not their own career through a label.

    • Savimbi

Eminem just sucks as a producer and executive producer, that’s what happened to them.

      • TheAfroRican

True. The group was forced to rhyme over Em type beats and trying to sound like his type in the last album.

      • Live Well

Without Em they would be battle rapping on YouTube though. He did his job, they just don’t have that intangible that people grasp onto.

    • TheAfroRican

That last sentence definitely summed it up.

  • Dope

As a group they simply had nothing to offer, there was no group identity, just 4 random dudes on a song. Without that you can’t really market a group, nor will the songs sound as they should

  • bklyn representa

because real rap is not popular anymore so it’s not surprising that nothing came out radio plays down south strip club garbage all day long

    • Knickfan4life

      Joeybadass is doing good

      • bklyn representa

yeah he is but the problem is that real talented emcee’s like him and them are pushed into the underground and the internet instead of getting there props from the mainstream like they deserve

  • NotTomFromMySpace

And niggas wer tryna assasinate me yesterday when i said niggas like this dont sell and acted like it means nothing if they cant/dont sell. Where them niggas at now lol great artist but they dont appeal to the masses. Doesnt mean their wack, but they not popping no more. Our society revolves heavily around image and $. Dont have either? Sit down. Not saying its right but thats how it is….

    • Savimbi

Nah stfu, you insinuated that Drake was a better artist than Royce, which is outlandish

      • NotTomFromMySpace

Never did. You need to go read it again. Comment is still up 😉 Never said Drake is better rapper then Royce. If your misconceptions or misguided comprehension mislead you that is no fault of mines.

  • StephenDedalus

There was a massive missed opportunity here, dudes just didnt seem to gel right. Couldve been one of the GOAT rap groups ever with the right circumstances.

  • BK

they never really lived up to their potential

  • Flip Jones

As a group, they don’t slaughter anything. They talk greasy but let Joe bidden get plunked in a rap battle… next

  • All Headz Realize

The whole Slaughterhouse concept, Eminem bit off the Masta Ace album from ’92! Eminem stole a lot of his HipHop concepts from 80’s and 90’s artist. D12’s “Purple Hill” was a wack imitation of Kool Keith’s “Blue Flowers” and he had the fat dude Bizarre trying hard to steal ODB’s style! Eminem in his “rap god” song bit from everybody from JJ Fad to Sticky Fingers of Onyx. What’s wrong with that is the fact that Eminem never gave those artist public acknowledgment so his White fans who are new to HipHop bcuz of him were mind blown and justified him as the greatest rapper ever!

    “Bighters got no worth!”

    • #Mr.Toadman AKA Toastman

      True

    • Dope

He often gave props to a lot of old school rappers in his songs, interview etc. And Rap God was supposed to be a song where he took a bunch of different flows and showed he can do them all, do them well, and combine them into a song that doesn’t even sound half bad.

      • All Headz Realize

He never publicly said that about”rap god”, that is your take of it. He mentioned his favorite artists knowing that he’s only speaking to real HipHop heads. He never gives recognition to old school artist, especially the once he copy off of in a way that his mainstream audience would understand. In turn like I said, they are convince that he’s the greatest rap artist ever bcuz Eminem never tried to educate these new HipHop fans on exactly where he got his style or how he got his style. He does that on purpose for his fans to think he’s the greatest but in fact, HE’S JUST TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THEIR IGNORANCE TO REAL HIPHOP AND ALSO HIS RACE!

      • ApricotNapalm

shut up dude, its too late he’s one of the best already. focus & do u, see how far u get

      • All Headz Realize

        You wish!

      • ApricotNapalm

i wish to be a multi millionaire dude

      • Apex Productionz

Bro are you DAFT? Eminem has done songs with Redman shouted him out in interviews plenty of times,When LL came to shade radio Em called up and rapped LLs whole Verse and L said damn i like my song even better now.He also shouts out Master Ace numerous times in interviews.Dude you are reaching or just running your mouth. You OBVIOUSLY don;t check ANY of his interviews.smfh

      • All Headz Realize

No body said he bit off Redman or LL. The shouting out Masta Ace was minute.
Look, Eminem was put in the Guinness book of world record for (rap god),most word in a song or something.
“Rap god” was the second single released of that album.
HAVE YOU EVER SEEN HIM PERFORM “Rap god” LIVE?

    • qnsnyker

Em didnt start Slaughterhouse. That whole concept started on a Budden album with a song with the groups name as the title and for what ever reason decided to carry it on in a group. Only connection between Em and Slaugherhouse it Royce.

      • All Headz Realize

Name the song or stop it!

      • Tohn

The song was called Onslaught if memory serves me correct.

      • All Headz Realize

Thanks for the research Tohn but let’s look at reality.
Wiki said that the name of the song Buddens made was called Slaughterhouse but the actual name of the track is Onslaught. This is a group that featured one of Eminem’s original dudes, Royce Da 5’9 from the job. Common sense tells me that these HipHop heads new exactly what they were doing when using the name Slaughterhouse and Eminem was with it from the job. This kind of sh*t is why niggas were giving Joe Buddens eye jammies back in the days! Sucka niggas think they can fool the world but you got niggas like me who refuse to be fooled! On top of everything, like your mans said, Eminem admit to idolizing Masta Ace! “Come on, son!”

      • Vinsanity

Phuck yea, “That’s what it’s all about”….”MC Negro and The Ignant MC……shit went so hard back then.

  • ilexx

I actually thought them going and doing individual albums was smart and if anything alot of this continues to build the buzz, I also believe that’s what they are hoping on.

For all the reasons listed in this comment section, they are 4 lyricists that came together, no real identity outside of that group and just some rapping ass rappers. While that concept would’ve worked well in the 90’s. For the past almost 20 years ppl have been buying into characters and their persona. Slaughterhouse the group, just the idea, is bigger than any of these individuals in the group. So how do you turn this into something viable? You almost have to do the opposite of normal groups, you have to build up the individual careers and have ppl asking for the group album.

Which I believe we are kinda in that stage right now. Every interview they do individually that album will be a question.

I think they likely have an amazing album with mostly Just Blaze production but they know if they just drop it with no buzz, it’s almost a waste.

What Royce did with Phryme, Joell did with House Slippers, Joey did with All Love Lost, Statik Kxng might be the weakest of the bunch, which is unfortunate cause Crooked is arguably the dopest but all in all the quality is there. I personally have faith in them, I just think they are playing the long game and it might be the best way to play it.

    • JerZeBoy

      well said

  • ApricotNapalm

they gotta drop the album and go on a world tour with Em…..

  • Apex Productionz

These are a bunch of PURE LYRACISTS who are in a NEWGAME that does not care about lyrics. That is the damn problem. These new fans don’t care about that. When you see Drake is exposed for not writing his Rhymes and he still the top dog then that should tell you something. You guys are late i BEEN knew the game changed when Drake first showed up to Funk Master Flex show “freestyling” from a blacknerry ON CAMERA and NO ONE SAID ISHHHH.C’mon.Remember this:YOU CAN’T APPLY OLD RULES TO A NEW GAME!” Yeah i said that!

    • Live Well

To keep it a bean they couldn’t make it in yesterday’s game either. Crooked I, Joe Budden, and Royce have been around for 15 years and never really popped.

    • JerZeBoy

      agreed!

  • ZUBU

Tabernacle, that’s some real stuff there! Good look, sound, message, etc. Heavy duty content, I’m older so I felt it yet I can see how the young heads may not feel it…

  • STEPH

I fu-ks with Royce (he’s from my city) fu-k those other clowns, I could care less.

    • James lewis

Peace. Could care less? So you don’t mean fu-k those other clowns. I’m confused.

      • STEPH

        got you the first time

    • James lewis

Did you mean couldn’t care less?

  • ChrissyCorey

Niggas talk all that real hip hop shit…but they favs drop just to sell like 11 thou the first week and wonder why they dont drop more often. we all know what a record label is and what they do…why expect them to put a few mil into a project they know yall niggas not goin support..

  • TRUTH SPEAKER

4 boring, borderline square rappers over boring beats. No style, no ill qualities. I’m not surprised.

    • king joe

Those four boring rappers can rhyme circles around whoever you think is hot

      • TRUTH SPEAKER

        Ghostface?
        AZ?
        Papoose?
        Lord Finesse?
        Big L?
        Redman?
        Buckshot?
        Big Daddy Kane?

        I think not my friend.

      • king joe

Ghostface…yes, papoose..yes, az..lord finesse…yes but the last two especially finesse would be a problem

      • king joe

Buckshot???? Really you got to be kidding!!! Redman and Kane I respect, I respect all those names but lyrically, yes I believe they would kill buckshot papoose. Ghostface AZ …and AZ is one of my favorites

      • TRUTH SPEAKER

I’m talking emcees that have flow and are dope on the mic. Which I don’t feel anyone in Slaughterhouse is. Sure they have technical skill, they can write more than I ever could, but it’s boring and has zero impact. It’s what I call “babble rap”. Buckshot on Funkmaster Flex 60 mins of Funk vol 2 sh!ts on anything anyone in Slaughterhouse ever put out.

      • king joe

I totally disagree bro, all four of slaughter house to me has both flow and dopeness on the mic….but that buckshot record you’re referring to, I do agree was a monster record

  • dbfromdc

      • Dope

That’s not the only audience. It’s true Slaughterhouse isn’t a money maker, but I just want to point out that many artists cater to other audiences besides drunk idiots in clubs and get way more money than do cheap rappers who see that as their key audience.

      • dbfromdc

IN 2016 IF YOU ARE NOT GETTING PLAYED IN THE CLUB AND RADIO EVERYDAY YOU AIN’T SHIT!!!

  • brotha_man

Royce and crooked I is all they need

  • All Headz Realize

Joe Buddens and Joell Ortiz can rap but they had no clue that they were being used by the powers that be to take attention off the original “SlaughtaHouse by Masta Ace inc”.
This was definitely a planned propaganda by Dr Dre and Eminem!
Listen to the album and its message in the original “Slaughtahouse” by Masts Ace inc from 1993 before you speak.

  • Vorn

They should go back to how they where before they signed to Shady. Slaughterhouse lyrically are on top but they don’t have identity needed for commercial value which is what a label wants. In fairness I don’t think Em put enough work into them to make them commercial but real hip hop fans like myself respect them….true talent.

  • WorldStar’s A&R

Tabernacle is pure unadulterated nastiness and will be played loudly in my truck tomorrow
