Dr. Jan Adams has been cleared of any wrong doing in the November 10 death of Kanye West‘s mother, Dr. Donda West, who died of complications from plastic surgery at the age of 58.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s office released a 17-page autopsy report today (January 10), which revealed that although the exact cause of Dr. West’s death could not be determined, there was “no sign of surgical or anesthetic misadventure.”
“Based on the history and available information, as currently known, the manner of death could not be determined,” said Deputy Medical Examiner Dr. Luis Pena said in the report.
The inconclusive report cited “pre-existing coronary artery disease and multiple post-operative factors,“ including the use of pain medication, as possible causes.
“What came out of the autopsy released today was exactly what I thought was going to be reported,” Adams told TV show Extra.
The celebrity surgeon came under fire when early investigations into West’s death indicated that complications from the plastic surgery performed by Adams on November 9 could have caused her death.
Shortly after West’s sudden death, Adams told the LA Times that nothing had gone wrong during the surgery, which included a tummy tuck, a breast reduction and liposuction.
According to the coroner’s report, West acted against doctor’s orders by returning home after her surgery, though she was advised to receive post-operative care at another facility.
The report also suggests that West might have had difficulty breathing, which could have triggered a cardiac event.
Speaking to the Associated Press, Captain Ed Winters of the LA County Coroner’s office stated that West “could, possibly” still be alive if she had not had surgery; however, he went on to say “she could have also died because of pre-existing cardiac issues.”
West, a former professor, left her position as chair of Chicago State University’s Department of English and Speech in 2004 to become Kanye’s general manager.
She co-founded and chaired of the recently created Kanye West Foundation, which aims to affect the severe dropout rates in high schools across the country.
