West Coast Hip-Hop pioneer Lonzo Williams has released a new DVD detailing the rise of the Compton/Los Angeles rap scene, AllHipHop.com has learned.

Williams, who is often referred to as the “Godfather of West Coast Rap,” partnered with Dub Kris Media to produce the new documentary Once Upon A Time In Compton.

The new film follows the rise of the West Coast scene from its earliest moments from Williams’ privileged behind-the-scenes viewpoint as CEO of the influential label Kru Cut Records.

Before creating the World Class Wreckin’ Cru, which featured a young Dr. Dre and fellow N.W.A. member DJ Yella, Williams developed his career as a businessman and DJ.

His Eve After Dark nightclub was an integral part in the development of L.A.’s Hip-Hop culture, introducing such artists as Eazy-E, Ice Cube, and of course Dre.

In 1987, when the group was at its height, the World Class Wreckin Cru hit the national charts with the single “Turn Off the Lights.”

Combining his personal tale with vintage footage including Dre’s first gig as a DJ, Williams creates a story that few have told before.

As the man who introduced Eazy-E to his Ruthless Records partner Jerry Heller, Williams is able to provide insight into the creation and rise of N.W.A., bringing to the forefront other key players who have often been left out of rap history.

Once Upon A Time In Compton also portrays Lonzo Williams’ continuing presence and influence in Hip-Hop.

Once Upon A Time In Compton is available online at www.Amazon.com and www.FilmBaby.com.

@Tommy K...co-sign....I'm saying, how many times is Documentaries like this is going to be recycled... I could predict whats going to take place on this DVD, just by reading the editorial. No hate, but people have to be more creative now days, and stop riding off of the last man. Besides I'm tired of watching documentaries about rappers and there come-ups...its the same ol shit

Game gives and documentary on the whole HipHop scene just by mentioning everybodies name on a song/album(Jay, Kanye, Nas, Jada, Air Forces, Beyonce you get the point) Hip Hop can be repititous at times...

i know who this guy is. guess im getting old.  his group with dre was on some prince type shit.  dre was in it and was the force of the group too.  dre met easy and they wanted to start the gangster shit. dre stayed with this clown and did the prince shit while dre and easy worked on the gangster shit.  yall thought that puff was shiny suit man.. sheeeeiit.. dre and this clown were on some shiny suit shit.  dre ended up leaving this clown and the cru and the prince type music to do the shit with easy.. the music the cru was makin was just starting to get out of date.. it had its time but it was over.  dre wasnt a gangster but he loved listening to east coast cats like krs one and rakim.. and wanted to make rap.. but anyways, this dude was the manager of the prince bullshit dre was doing before he left this dude to start n.w.a. basically.. this guy probably hated nwa cause they basically ended his career ..or atleast his current group.. now hes trying to make a movie about that time period? sounds kinda suspect to me...  but get your doller big brother, ill cop the bootleg.. and if i like it ill burn a copy for a partner.

lol.. i hear you.. in nas's case..  i was sayin there is not a track on that cd that i need to skip .. as an example, on pacs double disk (a classic undeniably) i cant stand the song toss it up or the track whats your phone #.. or even pac and snoops 2 of americaz most wanted..  and illmatic doesnt have any tracks that i dont like.. so to me it is flawless.. but to me it just doesnt have any bangers.. just a bunch of good songs.. i love that album dont get me wrong..

that spice one cd had bangers..  'rollin with my mutherfuckin gat on the side of me, dont mess with the east side g..

'i reached into my fruit of my looms and pulled out my gat'  e-40

hard to kill - with method man

- two of the hardest muthefuckas on the same mutherfuckin track? the tupac joint

that cd had bangers..  it some flaws too though..but if i had a draft pick between those two cd's , my first 5 picks would go to spice but my next 11 would go to nas...

I hear what you are saying but I have definitely got to disagree with you on that.  As far as Illmatic is concerned, that's a certified classic.  I had 1990-Sick, Amerikkas Nightmare, Spice 1 (self titled).  Those are some sick albums but this cat only talked about 1 thing and that was crime.  Trigga gots no heart, Trigga happy, klip and trigga, need I go on?  This cat couldn't see his way around rapping about crime.  That's all he knew.  Even MC Eight opened it up on We come strapped (platinum).  Wasn't all about killing cats.  When Pac dropped 2Pacalypse Now, you knew he had the ability to switch it up.  Even 2 of Amerikas Wanted was about both of them beating their court cases at that time.  Spice 1 never had any diversity so he will just be known as a Bay area rapper.  Even if you listen to Ni**as4Life and I mean really listen, MC Ren was dropping some solid knowledge.  These cats could keep it street and still talk about the struggle.  We come Strapped went platinum and all of Spice 1 albums only made it to Gold status.  This is just another little piece of info (Ice Cube Amerikkkas Most Wanted, Kill at Will, Death Certificate, all platinum albums. The Predator (double platinum).  11 of Pac's albums went platinum so where is Spice 1 in this mix?
