An unknown artist getting co-signed by Hip-Hop’s elite is like a well-known rapper marrying his child’s mother; it rarely ever happens. Massachusetts MC Termanology has managed to do just that via his popular Hood Politics mixtape series.

Upon getting endorsed by DJ Premier, it was a matter of time before the underground Latino rapper made his proper introduction to the masses. With his official debut Politics As Usual (ST Records/Nature Sounds), he showcases his versatility and ability to hold his own with the likes of Mobb Deep, Bun B, Sheek, Freeway and others.

Sampling Jay-Z’s “D’evils”, the album opens strongly with “Watch How It Go Down.” Produced by Premier, Term likens himself as the holy resurrection of Big Pun. The jazz horn driven “Respect My Walk” falls a bit in the shadows but things piece back into place with “Hood Sh*t” featuring Prodigy of Mobb Deep. Term’s raspy flow works well over the minimal beat provided by Alchemist.

Unfortunately the disc looses pace with the next two tracks both manned by Nottz. “Float” which samples The Floaters’ classic tune “Float On”; and the West Coast leaning “Please Don’t Go” fail to stand out amongst the rest of the consistent material.

On “Drugs, Crime & Gorillaz” with Sheek Louch and Freeway, Term sounds very comfortable although he does sound a bit like Eminem on his opening verse. “In The Streets” featuring Lil Fame of M.O.P follows. By this point it’s clear that Term has a major New York influence to his delivery. Additionally The Bun B assisted “How We Rock” is probably one of the better collaborations involving two different spectrums of Hip-Hop.

Rounding out the album is “So Amazing”. Anchored by Premo’s signature boom bap production style, Term makes it clear he’s the most underrated and underestimated new face in Rap. Lastly “The Chosen” brings things to a proper close as he positions himself next in line to B.I.G. and 2Pac’s legacy. After hearing this album in its entirety, it’s inevitable that Hip-Hop may have found its new diamond in the rough. Termanology has proven that he’s ready to give rappers a run for their money.

Reviewer is right on review. The only time Term fucks up is when he tries to go into the typical rapper wants to make an R&B track. Other than that, nice cd, plus he worked with some of N.Y's finest (Premo, Pete Rock, Havoc, Large Professor, even Easy Mo Be.) Good album.

I will agree with the review with as much I respect and like Nottz' work, Flow was weak.  But to me one weak track is good when the rest is dope.  The track that should have gotten mention was the Pete Rock produced track.  That is the truth.

I disagree with some of the comments, Float is actually one of my favorite tracks. The beST thing about "PAU" is that Term shows his different rap STyles. He can come at you hard on a track, or he can flip is and slow it down for the ladies. His flow is consently changing, but he always remains a dope MC.

Right on Hip Hop Honey. I joined the ahh community just to big up "float". The album is dope to me. "Please don't go" is the only track I couldn't really get into. As far as debuts go, Term's future is looking bright.

The album is great overall.  "Sorry I Lied To You" (produced by X-tra P aka Large Professor) is my favorite joint off the album.  Good to see X-tra P still workin'.

I was just wonderin where this nigga was at today.

My only problem so far (even though I havent heard the cd yet) is the fact that he still circulating "Watch How it go down" that song is like 3 years old and he had it on two of the Hood Politics mixtapes. But Ima check it out nonetheless

I agree with pretty much everything except...the fact that he/she says RESPECT MY WALK falls in the shadows...not only is it produced by BUCKWILD...it gives u that sound like...Nas's "Memory Lane (Sittin' In The Park)" or Jay'z "Feelin' It" It's smooth and Rough at the same time...and to be honest by the time u stop listening to this album and u come back to it...u gonna keep replaying RESPECT MY WALK...Plus LARGE PRO n PETE ROCK come on not a mention!!! Now as far as "Float" & "Please Don't Go" IT'S NOTTZ it's sick! and Term makes it work for him...they may have a west coast feel...but Nottz is from the south...plus real rhymes over any beat sound good and TERM IS RHYMING...if anything the track that falls in the shadows is HOOD SHIT...i love alchemist...and P's voice...but over all is the least dope next to the Bun B collaboration despite of the DJ PREMIER TRACK...Bun B is not lyrical he's average...he'd get murdered in any cypher...all in all from beginning to end like the pretty lady said it's LOVE AT FIRST LISTEN...we should be glad emcee's like Term are around to remind us where it all began...and where we should be going... It's a classic simply cause...u don't even think of skipping even the songs u might not enjoy as much as the others...this is how an album is done...NOW GO BUY THAT SHIT!!!!!!!!
