Atlantic Records flaunted its formidable fourth quarter Hip-Hop roster last night at the “Joint Chiefs” concert inside the Apollo in Harlem, New York. The evening was hosted by Atlantic rapper Lil’ Kim and Hot 97’s DJ Envy, who also released an album for the label.
The evening boasted performances by “Joint Chiefs” Trick Daddy, Lil’ Kim, Juvenile, T.I., Fabolous and Fat Joe. Twista wasn’t able to make the event as he had a scheduling conflict.
Each artist performed a medley of their hits as fans frequently followed the entertainers’ lines word-by-word.
Southern rappers Trick Daddy and Juvenile worked the crowd up performing their biggest hits from their Atlantic catalogue. Juve noticeably didn’t cover some of his Cash Money classics like "Ha." The self-proclaimed “King of the South” T.I. emerged soon, bringing out producer Swizz Beatz, who produced "Bring ‘Em Out" on T.I.’s Urban Legend album.
After an energetic performance, T.I. took off his sweat-drenched tank top and threw it into the crowd to the screams of young ladies. The rapper’s jeans sagged down to his knees exposing his boxers and bare chest for the majority of his hit “Rubberband Man.”
Fabolous followed T.I., running through his hits, donning a red fitted hat and iced out sunglasses, getting a hand from his new R&B artist, Mike Story.
Just before the final performance set by Fat Joe and his Terror Squad, Warner Music Executive Vice President Kevin Liles appeared on the stage to make a special announcement.
“As much as we take, we want to give back, to Harlem and the world,” Liles said. “A portion of each ticket sold will benefit charities in Harlem and South Africa.”
Meanwhile, members of the audience were slyly trying to coerce a scantily-clad Lil’ Kim into removing her clothing, a request she denied.
Fat Joe followed with a medley of his smashes such as “We Thuggin’” and “Lean Back,” with Remy Martin and fellow Terror Squad members.
The concert was part of Atlantic’s Joint Chief’s promotion featuring Twista, Trick Daddy, T.I., Fabolous and Fat Joe.
Atlantic has already released albums by Twista, Trick Daddy and Fabolous, while T.I. and Fat Joe’s albums drop in the next four weeks.
