The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Too Tuff, born Joseph Hicks, recently had surgery to remove his thyroid.

DJ Too Tuff, 41, is currently in jail awaiting an October trial for an aggravated assault charge stemming from a fight in front of nightclub Silk City.

He is being held without bail, because he was already on probation for possession of marijuana.

“It can happen to anybody,” DJ Too Tuff told the Inquirer, while adding that a benefit show was being organized to help cover his medical and legal bills.

DJ Too Tuff along with Tuff Crew group members Overlord Ice Dog, Tone Love, Monty G. and LA Kid released a number of classic Hip-Hop records in the late 1980’s.

He is noted for being one of the earliest of the turtablists, along with Philadelphia based DJ’s Jazzy Jeff, Cash Money , DJ Spinbad and DJ Miz.
