(AllHipHop News) Lifetime seems to be branding itself as the network of the fallen R&B star biopic. The channel recently announced it was producing an Angela Bassett directed movie about the late Whitney Houston, and according to THR Aaliyah is up next.

The project is currently titled Aaliyah: Princess of R&B. Disney Channel star Zendaya Coleman is attached to play the “One In A Million” singer.
Coleman previously appeared on Disney’s Shake It Up! and ABC’s Dancing With the Stars, and she is set to take the lead role in the upcoming sitcom K.C. Undercover also on the Disney Channel. Zendaya also released her self-titled album in 2013.
There had been talk for years that a feature film about “Baby Girl” was in the works. Several actresses/singers including Solange, Tristin Mays, and Keisha Chante had been rumored to be up for the part of Aaliyah.
Aaliyah: Princess of R&B is being produced by Aaliyah Productions. The TV movie is being written by Michael Elliot (Brown Sugar, Just Wright) and directed by Bradley Walsh (Turn the Beat Around, A Killer Among Us).
