“Lil Wayne is a legend. People forget a lot of the work he’s put in and what he’s done for Hip Hop culture,” said Kendrick. “It’s phenomenal.”
The TDE emcee then showed off his impression of Weezy. Kendrick’s take on the Young Money leader may rival Drake’s SNL impersonation of Wayne.
Lamar became the latest public figure to reinforce Wayne’s musical legacy. Slaughterhouse’s Crooked I recently credited Wayne for helping to bring lyricism back to mainstream rap, and a new book by college professor Kreston Kent compares Wayne’s writing ability to William Shakespeare and Bob Dylan.
