On the Beck Grammy controversy:
The other day I went to dinner with Taylor Swift. Ironically, they were playing the Beck album… Maybe they did it on purpose, so I could finally hear it. I was like, “Man this is kinda good”… Nah, I hadn’t even heard it [when I said Beyoncé should have won the Grammy for Album Of The Year]…
The Grammys still have a commercial component to it, and they wanna sell commercials. So they have these big superstars sitting in the audience and advertising their performing next to get views. You don’t have these people sitting here and having their hearts beating. We work too hard to deal with all that. We ain’t got time to be losing in a situation. Cause who’s winning? We ain’t getting none of that advertising money. That was my main point.
On racism:
We know there’s racist people. We know a lot of White men over the age of 60 are racist. We embrace that. We know that a lot of people that are in power, they’re like [former Los Angeles Clippers owner] Donald Sterling. We understand that, but the world is moving. Ten, twenty years from now every person of color, female, or any minority that comes into power will eventually shift it.
On Amber Rose:
She’s just soaking in the moment. Nobody is compelled to do nothing [in response to Amber’s criticism of Kim Kardashian]. If Kim had dated me when I first wanted to be with her, there wouldn’t be an Amber Rose…
It’s very hard for a woman to wanna be with someone that’s been with Amber Rose… I had to take thirty showers before I got with Kim.
On Tyga and Kylie Jenner:
I think he got in early. I think he was smart… They’re closer in age than a lot of relationships that I know.
On Minister Farrakhan:
I actually asked for the Minister to give me my BET Visionary Award. He felt like it wasn’t the right time. Right now I’m working on a documentary with him, about him, and about his music. He’s a classically trained violinist…
In the same way my wife got stamped with a sex tape, the Minister was stamped with [bigotry], and it’s important that while he’s still alive he sees the people appreciate his message. If you ever hear him talk, it’s about humanity, it’s about one race…
The documentary shows he had a White violin instructor. He talked about how because he was Black he couldn’t get the White instructor, and there was no Black instructors that could instruct him well enough. He talks about how he was asked to stop doing music. He had to choose between The Nation [of Islam] and music…
It’s a beautiful story about a beautiful soul that’s very misunderstood, and one of our most powerful messengers. It’s very important we protect and support our messengers.
On possible joint album with Drake:
I’m just gonna go ahead and say it, because maybe this will promote it happening. The “Wolves” song came from a conversation that me and Drake had where we was gonna do an album together. The album is called Wolves…
Me and Jay Z started talking about Watch The Throne, and Drake went and did all the records with Wayne and did the tour, and we never did [the Wolves album.] But I just put it in the ether, out in the world. Y’all don’t like it, then y’all can send it right back.
Kanye also announced his next solo album is 80% done and likely will drop as a “surprise” release. The so far untitled project will address social topics. He also squashed rumors his wife Kim K and Beyoncé do not get along.
