According to E!, Latifah will play the role of Carlotta on Daniels’ Star. The character is a mentor for a trio of female singers looking to break out in showbiz. Production for the Star pilot is scheduled to begin this month in Atlanta.

“It’s a modern-day music business in Atlanta and Empire is a modern-day music business in New York,” said Fox chairman and CEO Dana Walden. “It’s not inconceivable that the two worlds could cross. But that’s definitely not Lee’s intention as we go into it.”
