(AllHipHop News) Yesterday (April 5) friends, family and rappers from across the industry including Kanye West, Busta Rhymes, The Roots and Andre 3000 paid tribute to the late Phife Dawg.
While everyone celebrated, laughed and cried for Phife in “A Celebration of Phife Dawg” at the Apollo Theater, Smokin’ Needles Records released the first post-humous record from Phife called, “Nutshell,” now available to download via iTunes.
The video caps off what’s been a tragic two weeks for Hip-Hop as fans of A Tribe Called Quest mourn one of its founding members.
With the release of his “Nutshell” visual that premiered on Billboard, fans are also treated to a new track produced by J Dilla.
“Unaccustomed to unproven whack flows/Unresponsive to unapproved stages shows/That’s unacceptable, unexciting, lazy f*cker/Phife here, canny, uncommon rhyme spitter,” Phife Dawg spits on the new song.
The past two days have been dedicated to Phife Dawg by friends, family and partners in rap.
Prior to the funeral services two days ago (April 4), ATCQ asked fans to meet them at St. Albans Park in Queens for “A Celebration of Phife.”
The park is the same park that is being petitioned to be renamed Malik Taylor Park
The first 200 fans that arrived received a Phife Dawg t-shirt and ticket to yesterday’s show at the Apollo.
In the mean time, fans will be eagerly awaiting Tribe’s Give Thanks project.
Half of the proceeds from “Nutshell” will be donated to the American Diabetes Association and the National Kidney Foundation, check out the visual below.
