(AllHipHopNews) Gary, Indiana rapper Freddie Gibbs will be detained in France until at least next week, as he awaits a hearing on a rape charge in Austria.
Freddie Gibbs, born Fredrick Tipton, was arrested last Thursday (June 2) in the French city of Toulose, after being accused of rape in Austria last year.
A hearing on the charge was supposed to take place Tuesday (June 7) but it was pushed back to June 16.
In addition, the bail hearing requested by Gibbs’ lawyers will be examined next Tuesday as well.
According to The Local FR , the rapper plans to fight his extradition to Austria.
“Freddie Gibbs has indicated to the court that he would not be willing to be handed over to Austrian authorities without exercising his rights to a defense,” Gibbs lawyer Michael Malka stated.
Freddie Gibbs, 33, was on a tour that would have stopped on France, Canada, and Portugal.
The tour came to a halt when the gangster rapper was arrested by authorities before a performance at the Rex venue in Toulouse under a European Arrest Warrant for rape.
“He categorically denies the accusations made against him in Austria,” Freddie Gibbs’ lawyer Michael Malka said. “He is even very surprised that Austria could act on this a year later, while he was on tour in Europe.”
