The 19-track album was produced entirely by The Heatmakerz (Dipset, Lil Wayne). Contraband 2 includes contributions from top-notch rap representatives Joell Ortiz, Jim Jones, Vado, Maino, Kevin Gates, Cory Gunz, and more.
Fred recently dropped a video for the Cocoa Sarai assisted cut “Black Power.” The song touches on the history of racial injustice in America as well as the modern-day struggle to combat police brutality.
In addition, the 2011 XXL Freshman uses Contraband 2 to address the effects of the drug game on his community as well as the importance of spirituality. Those two themes are also expressed in the controversial cover art for the LP.
“The reason for the cover is because Jesus died for our sins but the world is backwards,” explains Fred. “We are ruled by money and drugs. When you look at the rosary on the track list… it’s right side up.”
Wayno of The Heatmakerz adds, “[The cover] is controversial to some, but it has a meaning. It represents what people put above their core values. Not some illuminati foolishness. People put drugs, money, and other vices above the things that are important in life. Money is the enabler and the vessel and as the cliché goes – the root of all evil. That is the message we hoped to convey.”
