*Rubs Eyes* Is that…a new Jay Electronica song? Last night (March 14th), the epitome of mystery, Jay Electronica released his first song in over three years, “better in tune w/ the infinite”.
On “better in tune w the infinite”, Electronica raps over Ryuichi Sakamoto’s “Bibo no Aozora” which was featured in the ending credit score for 2006’s movie Babel. “This is similar to his 2007 EP Act I: Eternal Sunshine (The Pledge), which found Electronica rapping over the score for Michel Gordy’s Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind.
In the song, Electronica touches on a few of the reasons he has not been releasing music. One of the most poignant reasons seems to be his fear of revealing himself to a judgmental society:
It’s frustrating when you just can’t express yourself/and It’s hard to trust enough to undress yourself/standing exposed and naked/in a world full of hatred/where the sick thoughts of mankind control all the sacred.
Electronica has appeared on numerous songs as a featured artist since his signing with Jay Z’s Roc Nation in 2010. However, this is Electronica’s first solo release since his 2011 freestyle over Kanye West’s “Devil In A New Dress”, entitled “Prelude To A Freestyle”. Electronica appeared on J. Period’s “In The System”, a tribute to the Notorious B.I.G this past March 9th.
