(AllHipHop News) Questlove of the Roots has really taken to his adopted home of New York City. The Philadelphia native works in NYC as a member of the house band for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and now the drummer/producer has been named an “artist in residence” for the city’s new Made in NY Media Center.
The Made In NY Media Center’s main goal is to connect independent filmmakers, artists, and other content creators with entrepreneurs and technology companies. Located in the Brooklyn area named “Silicon Alley”, the center will provide classes in areas like digital marketing and script supervision, expert seminars, and film screenings.
Start-up businesses called “incubators” will also be housed in the 20,000 square foot open space. For a $450 monthly membership fee approved incubators will get access to experts-in-residence, monthly networking events, and 24/7 use of personal desk space at the center. Public members who pay $150/month will have first-come, first-serve daytime access to desk space and receive invitations to networking events.
“This will be a vibrant space that will embrace forward-thinking, like-minded artists for film, art, music, new media, games, storytelling into the digital space,” said Questlove at the center’s ribbon cutting ceremony. “It will act as hub.”
The Made In NY Media Center was developed and will be operated by The Independent Filmmaker Project. For more information visit www.nymediacenter.com.
