Lil Karma Explains Why He Gave Up Basketball For Hip-Hop

Lil Karma is next up out of New Jersey.

They always say, no matter how great your numbers are, if you’re selling tickets to your show, you’re doing something right.

The 20-year-old has performed his last eight shows with a capacity of 2,000 to 3,000 people, bringing his one-of-a-kind sound and energy to the stage.

With his most recent single “Lonely” (dedicated to his late friend Jaleel), he displays vulnerability, strength, and authenticity.

AllHipHop: For those who don’t know, who is Lil Karma?

Lil Karma: I’m from Orange, New Jersey. I started making music 3 years ago. I don’t really have a genre, I’m just lit. [chuckles]

AllHipHop: How would you describe your sound?

Lil Karma: My sound is amazing. [whistles] My sound is literally amazing, I can’t even describe my sound to you. You just gotta really hear it and listen to the music.

AllHipHop: Talk about dedicating “Lonely” to Jaleel.

Lil Karma: That’s my friend who passed away, Rest In Peace. I dedicated that to Jaleel because he was the first person to really support me. He was the first person to really, really show me that love musically-wise. Because I was shy when I first started singing and rapping. I was shy to show people my songs.

I didn’t want to show people my songs because I thought they would think it was not good, etc. I had a lot of problems with that stuff, I was too shy. But then Jaleel was just feeling it so much that every day, we were lit. He supported me. He rocked with me so I dedicated that song to him, because I lost him. I was supposed to link him for a video shoot, but it didn’t end up happening because he had to work. Then it happened.

AllHipHop: How did he pass away?

Lil Karma: Vehicle homicide. That was back home. Rest In Peace to him, he’s the reason all these blessings are coming my way.

AllHipHop: In “Grind” you say “mama always said shoot for the stars,” what do parents think now?

Lil Karma: My mom is proud. She’s proud of me. They all in now. It took a little minute for them to get all in, because I used to play basketball. Pretty soon, it happened.

AllHipHop: Talk about trading the hoop dreams for the rap.

Lil Karma: It wasn’t even really tough. It was way more hurtful quitting basketball than the decisions I made after what happened. Basically I loved basketball, but I accepted the fact that I can’t be down because it’s not panning out the way I wanted it to pan out. So instead, I just kept focus and said “okay if this ain’t the one, I’ma try something else.” And music was there, it was destined. Literally destined.

AllHipHop: What can we expect music-wise?

Lil Karma: Music-wise, oh my god. I got 40 unreleased songs right now, fully mixed and mastered. It’s about to get lit this year. I got 2 mixtapes coming up and an album. Right now, I just shot 2 videos for 2 singles I’m about to drop at the end of this month.

AllHipHop: Who’s in your Top 5?

Lil Karma: Biggie, #1. I’m a huge Biggie Smalls fan, Rest In Peace. I don’t really listen to a lot of people though… Lil Uzi. I’ll give lil Uzi. Who else is lit? I don’t really listen to a lot of music like that anymore, that’s why I’m having a hard time. I know the songs but I don’t listen to them like I’m a huge fan or something. Let me throw out some names” Biggie Smalls, Lil Uzi, PnB Rock. I used to f##k with him heavy, he’s lit. Damn… Lil Baby and Gunna.

AllHipHop: What’s your favorite Biggie Song?

Lil Karma: It’s between “Suicidal Thoughts” and “Sky’s the Limit.”

Man Charged Over Mac Miller’s Death

(AllHipHop News) A man in California accused of selling Mac Miller a fatal dose of drugs has been charged in the rapper’s death.

Almost a year ago, the Pittsburgh rap star overdosed and died at the age of 26 from a combination of fentanyl-laced pills and cocaine.

One of three people accused of supplying Mac Miller with a lethal dose of drugs has been arrested in charged in relation to his death.

According to investigators, a 28-year-old man named Cameron James Pettit was taken into custody this morning (September 4).

Police say Pettit, an unnamed prostitute, and another person provided Mac with the lethal cocktail of drugs found in his system.

A coroner disclosed the rapper overdosed after consuming a mixture of fentanyl and cocaine in his San Fernando Valley home.

Police also found a stash of drugs in the home, including Adderall, Xanax, Oxycodone, and Hydrocodone, which he bought from Pettit, the prostitute in the other unnamed individual.

“Fentanyl disguised as a genuine pharmaceutical is a killer — which is being proven every day in America,” said United States Attorney Nick Hanna. “Drugs laced with cheap and potent fentanyl are increasingly common, and we owe it to the victims and their families to aggressively target the drug dealers that cause these overdose deaths.”

So far, Pettit is the only person charged in Mac Miller’s death.

Reports Of Cardi B Blasting A Group Of Kids Over A “Diss Song” Is Fake News

(AllHipHop News) Numerous YouTube channels, gossip blogs, and even some traditional entertainment news outlets have been reporting that Cardi B cursed out kids on Instagram Live. The problem? The story is completely untrue.

Cardi did go on a rant via her Instagram account, but the harsh words were not directed at the group of children that created a “diss track” about the Bronx rapstress. The IG Live comments were a response to Travis Scott fans that took issue with Invasion of Privacy winning the Best Rap Award Grammy over AstroWorld.

Some of Scott’s followers began slamming Cardi after the release of the Houston-bred rhymer’s Look Mom I Can Fly documentary on Netflix. There was a scene in the film where Travis Scott expressed his disappointment over not winning on Grammy Night 2019. Cardi then took to Instagram to fire back at the social media trolls.

“I got these white boys coming at me on Twitter all day, because of this damn documentary that came out,” expresses Cardi in the days-old vid. “I’m tired of explaining myself. I’m tired of coming at people. Everybody’s so f*cking mad that this little motherf*cking b*tch from the motherf*cking Bronx won a f*cking Grammy. It’s ridiculous.”

Later in that same Instagram Live, Cardi says, “Everybody be busting their ass when they work on their album. I’m not gonna let no little f*cking white boys motherf*cking come at me all motherf*cking day long. Shut the f*ck up, and stay in y’all motherf*cking place. Go drink y’all motherf*cking milk, b*tch.”

It is clear a clip circulating on social media took the last part of Cardi’s Instagram Live out of context to make it seem as if she was reacting to Z-N8tion’s diss video. When, in reality, the 26-year-old mother’s words had nothing to do with the young boys from Westchester County, New York.

“First of all, I was talking about a fan base that was coming for me when it comes to [my] album and [the Grammys] and people chopped my video to make it seem like I was talkin about them kids. Second, why don’t ya go b*tch to the parents that got lil kids talking sh*t about others?” tweeted Cardi on Wednesday afternoon.

This is not the first time Travis Scott’s name has been involved in deliberate “fake news” that went viral. In 2018, YouTuber ChristianAdamG “fooled the internet” by creating a bogus photograph that appeared to show the AstroWorld creator cheating on his longtime girlfriend Kylie Jenner. That false narrative was also picked up by various outlets.

EXCLUSIVE: Fyre Fest Documentary Makers Accused Of Stealing Footage

(AllHipHop News) The disastrous Fyre Festival is the gift that keeps on giving – to lawyers.

A guy named Austin Mills is suing Jerry Media, Vice Media, Netflix and creators of the Netflix documentary “FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened,” claiming they stole his footage.

Austin Mills is a former point guard for Baylor University, turned social media personality and entrepreneur.

The former point guard has provided behind the scenes commentary for the National Basketball Association while cultivating a significant presence on social media.

Austin attended Billy McFarland and Ja Rule’s Fyre Festival in April of 2017.

Once he was there, he helped break the news of what was happening in a YouTube video titled “Fyre Festival COMPLETE Disaster. VLOG of Chaos!”

Austin claims reps for the documentary approached him to license his clips for “FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened” but they never struck a formal agreement to use the valuable footage.

Austin Mills took a shot a Jerry Media, which was one of the companies who originally helped promote the Festival, by declaring they are attempting to make their own culpability by helping to produce “FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened.”

“Defendants seem to have scammed Plaintiff of his footage for use in their film about a major scam, which of course turns out to be little more than a media campaign to absolve some Defendants of their complicity in said scam,” Austin Mills said.

According to Austin, the producers of why used over 500 seconds of his footage in the documentary without his permission.

Austin Mills is suing Netflix, Exuma Films, Matte Projects,, Library Films, LLC and, Vice Media for copyright infringement, vicarious and/or contributory copyright infringement and violations of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

This is not the first time creators of the documentary have been accused of being too thirsty and stealing footage to complete their documentary.

Last month, another filmmaker named Nicole Pinedo sued the producers for using her footage without permission to create “FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened.”

The Fyre Festival was supposed to be a luxurious concert/getaway on Great Exuma island in the Bahamas.

Patrons paid $5,000 to $250,000 for all-inclusive tickets, to see big acts like Major Lazer, Tyga, Migos and Pusha T.

Instead of being treated like VIPs, guests arrived on the island where they were served cheese sandwiches and offered up wet tents as shelter.

Dozens of people who bought tickets have filed class-action lawsuits against Ja Rule and other organizers of the Fyre Festival.

Just last week, a bankruptcy trustee attendee filed a lawsuit against Pusha-T, Migos, and Lil Yachty for profiting off the festival, by accepting money to perform at the event, which was canceled before it started.

Founder Billy McFarland was sentenced to six years in prison for fraud and bilking investors out of millions of dollars.

Billy is due for an early release and will hit the streets again sometime in 2023.

During the sit-down, DaBaby said Kirk, the follow-up to his debut Baby On Baby is coming in the next three to four weeks.

https://twitter.com/Beats1/status/1168184459507585024

“I can’t wait…man. I got some mad features,” DaBaby said. “I got a song with all three of the Migos. You get what I’m saying? “I got something with Chance the Rapper and somebody else on the same song,” he cryptically revealed.

DaBaby has been busy as he prepares for the release of Kirk.

He was one of the most anticipated acts last weekend at Jay-Z’s Made in America festival, and DaBaby also has an upcoming up appearance on Post Malone’s new album Hollywood’s Bleeding.

Mysonne Talks Supporting Jay-Z, Issues With Kaepernick Protest + Hip-Hop

(AllHipHop Video) Mysonne has been on the front lines of being “Gangsta But Woke” and for the past 5 years, has taken his message into action. The rapper has been supportive of Colin Kaepernick, but also gives some insight on some of the confusion that has come as the former football star has settled an employment grievance. On the other side, the NY General has been a vocal supporter of Jay-Z, who has made a deal with the National Football League (NFL) in the midst of protest.

The rapper also updates on how activists get money and how he’s doing as one of New York’s premier rappers. In this conversation with Chuck “Jigsaw” Creekmur, Mysonna talks about Chikesia Clemons and the Waffle House police case as well as the plight Black men face in this overtly hostile and racist atmosphere.

Is DMX Sending Shots At Rick Ross On Their Joint Song?

(AllHipHop Rumors) When I heard that song, all I said was “DMX is back!” And I felt good about that. I gently said, “Ross was Ross – solid bars.” I went on with my business. And then people started hitting me up and telling me was going on – PER THE STREETS.

So, let’s take it back a bit. We know that DMX has been to jail almost every year he has been in the music game and even more that we don’t know about. He is the streets and he’s also the dude that we know is heavy in the prison! His first rap beef started in jail! So, he is really BOUT THAT LIFE!

Rick Ross has a book out called Hurricanes and I cannot wait to read it. But, for the sake of diplomacy, we say that he and DMX have very different lifestyles s they ross to fame!

Now, listen to this song!

The song is from the new series “The Godfather of Harlem,” which is a dope show coming from Markuann Smith. Speaking of Markuanna, check him out right here!

Anyway, now that you have heard the song, do you think DMX is dissing Rick Ross? I would certainly hope not! DMX is on the rise AGAIN and has not gotten into any trouble since he’s gotten out of the bing! The very last think we need is for him to burn any bridges now! On the other hand, maybe this is just what the dog needs! A good ol fashioned rap beef! I don’t see Rozay entertaining any sort of drama with anybody, much less DMX.

It should be stated that a lot of people feel this is total BS! And it might be! I guess we’ll find out later…or we won’t! I don’t think this will manifest as nothing. X sure sounds extra mad though!

Trina Mourns The Death Of Her Mom Vernessa

(AllHipHop News) Rapper Trina is mourning the death of her mother, Vernessa Taylor after she lost her battle with cancer.

Vernessa, who went by the nickname Nessa, was just 62 when she passed away at approximately 12.30am.

Trina frequently shared snaps of her mom on her social media pages, and shared an image on Instagram back in June, writing: “My entire world…my strength, my weakness, my reason for never giving up, my peace, my joy, my EVERYTHING.”

She also paid tribute to Nessa in the 2017 song “Mama” which included lyrics about her wanting to pass away before her mother so she wouldn’t have to deal with the loss.

Netflix Confirms Only Select Shows Like ‘Rhythm + Flow’ Will Be Released Weekly

(AllHipHop News) This week, news stories began circulating that claimed Netflix was planning to follow Disney+’s upcoming model of releasing original episodes on a weekly basis. However, Netflix’s official Twitter account pushed back on those rumors.

“The weekly release of licensed titles (like Great British Baking Show) isn’t new and in hopes of keeping Rhythm + Flow‘s winner a surprise, we’re trying something new! But not happening with more shows than that,” tweeted Netflix in response to several outlets that reported a modification in the company’s binge-friendly format. The streaming service later added, “We’re not changing.”

Rhythm + Flow is the upcoming Hip Hop competition show starring Cardi B, Chance The Rapper, and Tip “T.I.” Harris. The three rap superstars will serve as judges.

Back in 2018, Cardi responded to critics that took issue with her being in a position to evaluate other artists. The “Bodak Yellow” hitmaker said, “I don’t give a f*ck if you don’t think I’m qualified as a judge. B*tch, I make good f*cking music. You know my name and you know my motherf*cking records. I make hits, hits, hits, hits, hits, hits, hits.”

Rhythm + Flow’s 10 episodes – which take place in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, and Atlanta – will come out over a three-week period. The first installment will cover the auditions. The second installment will focus on cyphers, rap battles, and music videos. The third installment will cover samples, collaborations, and declaring the winner.

Netflix’s Rhythm + Flow is scheduled to premiere on October 9. The series follows other music-centered programs on the platform such as HΘMΣCΘMING, Look Mom I Can Fly, Rapture, and Hip-Hop Evolution.

Wale Reflects On Collabing With Megan Thee Stallion & Rihanna During His Career

(AllHipHop News) Wale has worked with numerous other artists. The DMV representative recently spoke about connecting with Hot Girls leader Megan Thee Stallion for “Pole Dancer.”

“She’s just a star,” said Wale during an interview with Travis Mills on Apple Music’s Beats 1. “I knew that the first time I ever met her. She’s just a star. She was made to do this.”

The American-born emcee of Nigerian descent acknowledged he and Meg offer each other advice at times. Wale was later asked to name his favorite collaboration from his extensive catalog.

“Well, I was just listening in the lobby to the one me and Rihanna did, that was fun. We went out partying all night, and then we laid that joint down,” stated Wale. “That one sticks out to me, because I’m like, ‘Dang, I pulled it off.’”

The “Bad (Remix)” with Rihanna was a hit during The Gifted album era. Singer-songwriter Tiara Thomas appeared on the original version of the 2013 tune which peaked at #21 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.

Wale has been working on his sixth studio LP, the follow-up to 2017’s Shine. His latest single is “On Chill” featuring Jeremih. That record has already entered the Hot 100 and rose to #55 on the most recent chart.

Watch A Clip Of Jennifer Lopez Giving A Pole Dance Lesson In ‘Hustlers’ Movie

(AllHipHop News) On September 13, Hustlers will arrive in American theaters via STXfilms. Jennifer Lopez leads a star-studded cast for the real-life-inspired story of strip club employees on a mission to scam their wealthy Wall Street clientele.

“We’re presenting a world we may have seen in many movies and TV shows, but from a different perspective – that of the dancers,” says writer-director Lorene Scafaria. “It’s an epic mix of crime drama, stripper movie, and an exploration of the economic upheaval that upended the lives of so many, including our characters.”

J.Lo plays Ramona, a veteran stripper that mentors Constance Wu’s Destiny in the art of exotic dancing. In one scene from the motion picture, Ramona has to teach Destiny how to perform on a pole.

“They are definitely anti-heroes and survivors in a game that is rigged,” says Lopez. “It all began with the idea that they would get back at the Wall Street big shots who turned the country upside down in 2008. But just as it is with any hustle, once you start playing it’s hard to find the courage to stop.”

Besides Lopez and Wu, Hustlers also features Keke Palmer as Mercedes, Lili Reinhart as Annabelle, and Julia Stiles as Elizabeth. Chart-topping music artists Belcalis “Cardi B” Almánzar and Melissa “Lizzo” Jefferson make appearances in the forthcoming feature film as well.

Recently, Cardi talked about having to dance on top of her castmates for the movie. The “Money” rapper said, “I was really nervous, to be honest with you. I was like, ‘Oh god, I gotta sit on J.Lo. I gotta sit on Constance. This is crazy. Oh lord, I’m not ready for this. My heart’s pumping fast. Like, ‘Oh my god, I gotta rub my v##### on them! Because that’s how you give a real lapdance if you’re really trying to get extra dollars.”

Jay-Z’s Roc Nation & NFL To Reportedly Donate $400,000 To Chicago Youth Programs

(AllHipHop News) There has been a lot of discussion about the new partnership between Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter’s Roc Nation and the National Football League. One of the main complaints centered around the public not being aware of how the deal will actually create positive change in local communities.

A new report from TMZ reveals the alliance’s initial attempt at helping people through the Inspire Change initiative. According to the website, the NFL and Roc Nation are donating $400,000 to two Chicago groups focused on assisting at-risk children.

Hip Hop artists Rapsody and Vic Mensa are set to visit Better Boys Foundation (BBF) Family Services on Wednesday. The next day Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill and Pop singer Meghan Trainor will stop by Crusher’s Club.

On September 5, Inspire Change advocates Meek Mill, Meghan Trainor, and Rapsody will also perform a free concert at Grant Park in Chicago. The “NFL Kickoff Experience” will be part of the Chicago Bears versus Green Bay Packers pregame show airing on NBC and the NFL Network.

Inspire Change focuses on education and economic advancement, police and community relations, and criminal justice reform. Roc Nation, the National Football League, and the Players Coalition will supposedly donate to two organizations in every NFL city.

In addition, the Roc Nation/NFL cooperative announced the launch of Inspire Change apparel and Songs of the Season. All proceeds from the songs will go toward Inspire Change. Proceeds from the apparel line will fund and support Inspire Change programs.

“With its global reach, the National Football League has the platform and opportunity to inspire change across the country,” said Jay-Z in a statement. “Roc Nation has shown that entertainment and enacting change are not mutually exclusive ideas – instead, we unify them. This partnership is an opportunity to strengthen the fabric of communities across America.”
