Charges Dropped Against Men Accused Of Slaughtering BTY YoungN

(AllHipHop News) The two men accused of murder in the shooting death of rapper BTY YoungN will escape charges in the killing.

Kyron Williams and Darryl Bannister were charged with second-degree murder for the death of BTY YoungN, who was shot and killed at a Shell gas station in New Orleans last April.

Even though cell phone was retrieved at the murder scene with Bannister’s fingerprints on it, prosecutors did not have enough proof to take the case to trial.

Bannister stated he was at a party when BTY Young’N was executed and could not have been the gunman.

To complicate the case, Bannister told detectives that his phone was stolen from him while he was at the same function the evening of the murder.

“Based upon the totality of evidence available, we decided it was not prudent to proceed to trial at this time,” said Ken Daley, a spokesman for District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro’s office.

The investigation is ongoing.

#AHHPowerfulWomen:Biba Adams Takes Detroit Rap & Gives It To The World

(AllHipHop Features) Biba Adams began her entertainment industry career as an Artist Development Representative for Warner Elektra Atlantic Corporation, then becoming a Product Manager for Barak Records-home of Slum Village and legendary producer, James “J. Dilla” Yancey. Her reputation of working with Detroit’s most successful artists earned her the nickname “Detroit’s Daughter.” In the mid-2000s, Biba stumbled into a career in hip-hop journalism given her connections in the industry and innate talent for the craft of writing. Since, Biba has contributed to Jezebel Magazine, The Atlantan, Ebony Magazine, AllHipHop, Revolt, The Root, The Grio and more. She has written hundreds of articles celebrating hip-hop music and culture with her specialties being retrospective pieces about the golden era, as well as insightful feature articles about her hometown music scene.

Biba also worked for seven years at Year Up, Inc-a national workforce development program for young adults where she taught and mentored hundreds of students. Her passion for hip-hop is only matched by her belief in urban young adults and love of community service. She recently relocated back to her hometown of Detroit where she founded The Detroit Hip Hop Organization, a non-profit focused on preserving, promoting, and protecting the legacy of Detroit’s hip-hop music and culture. She also serves on a variety of boards and is active in local politics. A valued Digital Marketing and Content Strategist, Biba Adams is also a Brand Consultant to a variety of lifestyle brands, high-profile clients, and entertainment companies.

A classic “Gemini,” Biba is known for the quick wit, insightfulness, and playful energy that she brings to every project she puts her hands on.

AllHipHop: You recently moved back to you hometown. Talk about Detroit and how it factors into who you are.

Biba Adams: Detroit is everything to me. I grew up in the 80s which was a very tumultuous time in Detroit. Like most major cities, we were heavily impacted by the crack epidemic, we also had a very contentious mayor in the late Coleman A. Young. Detroit also experienced a very high rate of white flight, for most of my life the city was about 90% black. As Detroiters we learn very early that we are the center of the state, and a very powerful city (being the hub of the auto industry), but our blackness also made us heavily disliked and the butt of national jokes and disdain. It puts a chip on your shoulder. You can see that in the artistry and the images of Detroit. People think we are some gangster town, but the way “they” talk about Detroit is all just code for black.

AllHipHop: You are Detroit’s Daughter. I’ve always had a love of the brand of Hip-Hop Detroit produces and you as the conduit to the industry.

Biba Adams: Aw, thanks. It’s hard for me to say, but is factual that I am a Matriarch of Detroit Hip Hop. There are never a whole lot of women on any hip-hop scene and that was true here too. I was very passionate about the Detroit hip-hop community because we were a community. We were (and still are) friends, family even. The brand of hip-hop that we make here is born out of that same need to prove ourselves and our worth to the world. As well of a little bit of “F**k you.” Detroit has always been a musical city. When you grow up in the shadows of Motown, that doesn’t leave. Although the company left, the energy that created it, and a lot of people who were responsible for that sound were still here. We are the children and grandchildren of Motown, which is probably one of America’s most recognizable and influential musical eras. We have a strong sense of pride. These are also just amazing emcees, they are really smart, amazing dudes. Guys like Royce, Guilty, Elzhi, Black Milk, Marvwon, the rappers from my hip-hop shop era, as well as younger dudes. There are a lot of people that I can’t mention because of time and forgetfulness, but this is a city full of amazing rappers. Steel sharpens steel. I admire them a lot.

AllHipHop: How does business factor into the art of Detroit?
Biba Adams: One of my favorite music business people from Detroit is Al Nuke. He currently manages Zaytoven. Nuke is under-credited, but he was always so innovative. He was one of the first guys to promote our music across the river in Windsor, making him one of the first international Artists. But, there is also a dearth of business here. There are a lot of amazing rappers, but not a lot of amazing writers, publicists, managers, etc. So we still need more of the business polish to get what it is that we deserve.

AllHipHop: Explain what your present role entails work and business-wise?

Biba Adams: I wanted moving home to be something special. I tried the label thing in New York and Atlanta. I knew that when I came home, in the midst of this amazing resurgence that is largely benefitting white people, that I wanted to serve small, black businesses and artists. I recently founded The Detroit Hip Hop Organization which is a non-profit organization that is focused on protecting, preserving, and promoting the legacy of Detroit Hip-Hop through events, educational programming, and strategic partnerships. Right now, a big part of what I do is getting people to work together productively. I brokered the deal for Detroit vs Everybody to offer discounts to customers of Dilla’s Delights donut shop, for example. I’m really big on cooperative economics because Detroit has a big underground economy and a lot of minority owned businesses.

AllHipHop: What’s the most enjoyable part of the job and your duties?

Biba Adams: Being home is the best part. Being with my family. Seeing friends. Seeing the success of people that I love. My sister just opened an amazing French café, Le Petit Zinc. I love just being a part of the city again. I’m a very passionate person, and Detroit is so full of opportunity that every day can be exciting and interesting.

AllHipHop: What is the hardest part:

Biba Adams: It’s hard, sometimes, to find forgiveness. I still feel under-respected, underutilized, underpaid sometimes. So, I have to go within very often and realize that the work that I am doing is bigger than me. I want kids to write book reports about Detroit hip-hop. I want the city, it’s artists, and myself to have the respect we deserve (and the money that comes with it on a larger scale.) I’m fortunate that I have an amazing family, and my brother, Dean, works with me, as well as runs his own marketing company, Humble Flei. The hardest part exists mostly in my head. When I get out of there and just do the work, I have great days.

AllHipHop: Can you describe a moment of adversity personal and in your career?

Biba Adams: I feel like, as a woman in this industry, that I haven’t been given (or taken) opportunities. In addition to my work in hip-hop, I also work in the non-profit/service space. I’ve been discriminated against, I’ve been gossiped about. I’ve had the struggles most people have, and especially people who have any kind of high-profile. It’s important for me to always stay clear about what is an adversity? Am I causing it? Can I change it? Most importantly, can I go around it to get what I want?

AllHipHop: What keeps you from giving up?

Biba Adams: I love my city. I love the music we make. I am a fan first. I am a fan of the people that I work with. I love J. Dilla with all my heart, I loved Proof with all my heart. The love and legacy for Detroit and Detroit hip-hop makes me want to keep going every day. I had a difficult time in my late teens and early 20s, I wouldn’t be exaggerating if I said that this music and this culture, in this city, saved my life. I owe it my best.

AllHipHop: Who inspired you to become a leader or boss?

Biba Adams: My Grammie. My grandmother always worked two jobs. If you didn’t have a job and a side hustle, she questioned your character. She owned a flower shop when I was growing up and I admired her tenacity. After the flower shop, she made and sold church hats, successfully. She is a very hard-working woman. She’s also really funny, loves God with her whole heart, and loves her family. She, my mother, and my daughter inspire me every day.

AllHipHop: How do you balance work, and personal life?

Biba Adams: What personal life? I have kind of resigned myself that I am an extremely independent woman. I’m not in a relationship right now, because it is sometimes a challenge for men to have to play the background to a woman who works as much as I do. I really like the Chris Rock analogy that being in a relationship is like being in a band. Sometimes you are on lead vocals, and sometimes you play the tambourine. But, when you do, play it with all your heart. Don’t compete, support each other’s success. That’s what I’m hoping for in my next relationship. As far as my family life, I give myself in service to my family. I take the trash out, I clean, I take my grandmother to doctor’s appointments. I give, give, give…somehow, I find that it also fills me, in return.

AllHipHop: What do you like to do for fun?

Biba Adams: How awesome is it that my professional life is fun for me? I don’t really have an “off” switch. But when I’m not working, I LOVE to read. I learned to read at 3 years old and haven’t stopped since. I read a book a week, at least. I also have a pretty strong spiritual practice, so I like to read stuff about metaphysics, A Course in Miracles, that kind of thing. My mom is a big movie buff, so I watch a lot of movies with her or on my own. And, I hang out with my dog.

AllHipHop: Final words?

Biba Adams: I am thankful for this opportunity. You are a dear friend and AllHipHop will always feel like home to me. It’s SO important that hip-hop music and culture love and celebrate women. We contribute to it, we make amazing music, we run these labels, we love this culture as much as the men do. I hope that we continue to open doors for female emcees, and other contributors to the culture. Respect women, Listen to women, Trust women, Love women, Invest in women, especially Black women.

AllHipHop: Oh, do you hate ironside hex (formerly known as hex murda)?

Biba Adams: [Laughs] No… Hex is a big old pumpkin. He is such a legend in Detroit hip-hop. I’m so grateful that he is embracing his talent as a writer, and telling all these amazing stories. He just wrote a mini-history for the D-Cyphered book by Jenny Risher. I love how active he is on social media. I could never hate Hex. I love him very much. He hates you though. Kidding, I think the only person he TRULY hates is Trump.

Detroit, What?! .[Laughs]

Trey Songz Snapped After “Occasional” Partner Flirted With A Friend

(AllHipHop News) A woman who claims Trey Songz punched her at a party last month has been granted a domestic violence restraining order against the singer.

The alleged victim claims that she and the R&B star had been friends and “occasional romantic partners” for the past few years.

In a sworn statement obtained by the New York Daily News, the woman claims that the singer, real name Tremaine Neverson, became enraged when he saw her talking to another man at his rental home in Los Angeles on February 17, allegedly asking her: “You want to act like a ho and get with my boy?”

She then claims that Neverson then “charged” at her and “began choking” her.

“I tried defending myself by hitting his hand off of my neck but when I got out of the choke hold, he then started punching me in the face,” she added in the petition. “I was able to get away from him and began circling a car in the garage screaming and crying while others just watched and spread out.”

The woman claims that Neverson hit her again after chasing her, before throwing her two phones off a cliff.

Apparently, the singer later began to apologize and gave her money to replace her phones, before instructing a driver to take her home.

The next day, the woman went to hospital “after suffering migraines all day that lead to vomiting.”

Alongside her petition for the restraining order, the woman submitted photos to the court which showed bruises on her face, jaw, back, and arm, as well as a report she filed with Los Angeles Police at the hospital on February 18.

After hearing the woman’s statement, a judge granted the restraining order, which means Neverson must stay 100 yards away from the victim and is forbidden from contacting her in any way.

A hearing has been set for March 27.

Lisa Bloom, the lawyer for the alleged victim, said in a statement: “We took this step today to protect my client’s rights to peacefully live and work, and we will continue to fully cooperate with law enforcement’s investigation of this serious matter.

“The room was filled with Mr. Songz’ friends and employees. We are asking just one of them with a conscience to reach out to us and tell us what they saw. Don’t be a bystander to violence against women.”

22 Savage Label CEO Arrested In Major Drug Sting!

(AllHipHop Rumors) Funny Mike made a lot of noise with his music in 2017. The YouTube/Instagram comedian first began making waves after his parody videos of rapper Kevin Gates.

However, he didn’t begin to really make noise until he began doing parody videos of 21 Savage.

His parody videos as 22 Savage were so good that people began to take him serious as a rap artist. The run was short lived after a brief back and forth with the real 21 Savage.

The comedian is now preparing for his addition to the MTV comedy series “Wild ‘N Out.” Funny Mike began his music ascension as part of the Baton Rouge, LA record company Travis James Entertainment.

Recently their CEO reportedly ran into some legal problems after being caught up in a massive drug trafficking sting. According to the indictment papers, the investigations focused on drug networks ran by James C. Hull, known as “Fat Boy,” Travis R. James, and Bryron A. Lawson, known as “B.”

Their alleged paths flowed through Houston, TX, Baton Rouge, LA, Prairieville, LA and Hattiesburg, MS. The charges are serious with law enforcement stating money was exchanged by several individuals.

A total of 41 people were arrested and charged with more than 80 counts of narcotics and firearms offenses. Law enforcement officials did make sure to include one interesting point. They said they didn’t identify the 41 people indicted as being part of a gang.

However, they did say they were all working for a major drug trafficking organization.

(AllHipHop News) DJ Khaled has spoken of his love for his son in a touching video which serves as an open letter to the tot and his fans.

In the video, which explains the meaning behind the name of his upcoming album Father of Asahd, Khaled shares home footage of Asahd, now 16 months, and reveals how much becoming a father has changed his life.

“I have an important message for you. It’s a message about the master key of master keys. I’m talking about love,” he says in the voiceover. “Love can change everything. It’s changed me… My son, Asahd. He is my legacy, my love, my lion. That’s what Asahd means: Lion.”

Despite being a few months short of his second birthday, Asahd has already experienced many of the finer things in life. The video shows the toddler hanging with his father everywhere from the red carpet to the back of yachts. Fyre Festival Founder Cops Plea And Faces A Long Stretch Behind Bars

(AllHipHop News) The founder of the Fyre Festival took a plea deal yesterday (March 6) and is facing up to ten years in prison.

Billy McFarland pled guilty to two counts of fraud in a scheme that defrauded investors and would-be purchasers of tickets to the Fyre Festival, out of millions of dollars.

The guilty plea stems from the Fyre Festival, which was supposed to be a costly event in the Bahamas in April and May of 2016.

Tickets for the festival were sold for $1500-$250,000 to see stars like Lil Yachty and Blink 182,

Patrons who were unlucky and made it to the Bahamas encountered “hellish” conditions.

Fans told tales and shared images of makeshift tents while being served cheese sandwiches, even though McFarland was blowing money on expenses like a yacht for a tent city ($470,000), carpet ($260,000) a yacht for Blink 182 ($150,000) and towels ($18,208).

McFarland and co-promoter Ja Rule decided to scrap the event, which resulted in a surge of lawsuits reaching into the hundreds of millions of dollars, against both Billy McFarland, Ja Rule, and The Fyre Festival.

McFarland will do some time after prosecutors claimed he doctored business reports to investors of the Fyre Festival who maintain they were defrauded out of $1.2 million in the scheme.

DRAM Discusses His Friendship With R&B Legend Erykah Badu

(AllHipHop News) DRAM has been hinting at a joint project with Erykah Badu since 2016. The two vocalists did collaborate for the Big Baby DRAM song “WiFi,” but the world has yet to see the two come together for a full-length effort.

The lack of a DRAM/Badu LP is not because of any bad blood. Revolt interviewed the Virginia singer-songwriter about his friendship with the Queen Of Neo-Soul.

“I think what draws us to each other – me and Erykah – is the fact that there’s so much musical talent. We’re both made of music. We both have an extreme respect and love for one another’s craft,” DRAM said. “We work good together, we sound good together, and we honestly talk about damn near everything.”

Last year, DRAM took part in AllHipHop‘s “My Five Firsts” series. He talked about his first meeting with Ms. Badu.

“That sh-t was lit. This was down at SXSW [Festival]. It was at one of the sponsored shows where she headlined as a DJ. I was on the bill as well. We had been conversing, but that was the first time we met in person,” recalled the LoveRenaissance/Atlantic recording artist. “I went into her dressing room. It was so dope. A few days later, we ended up linking up and working in the studio. That was even more lit. It was pretty monumental.”

(AllHipHop News) Vince Staples’ troll game is on a million right now. Or more accurately, it’s on 2 million. The Big Fish Theory album creator is asking his fans/haters to invest in a satirical GoFundMe campaign.

Apparently, the $2 million crowdfunding request is a response to concertgoers complaining about Vince’s performances. So the Long Beach, California spitter is now offering his critics an alternative to attending his shows.

“You can decide to donate to the call of $2 million which will allow me to shut the f-ck up forever, and you will never hear from me again. No songs, no interviews, no anything,” says Staples in a video message. “If not, you can choose to let me do what the f-ck I want to do when I want to do it. Get off of my d-ck or fund my lifestyle. The choice is yours. Either way, we appreciate you.”

Rae Sremmurd Declares ‘SremmLife 3’ The Best Music They’ve Ever Made

(AllHipHop News) Rae Sremmurd took a bold step by deciding to release a triple album. SremmLife 3 is split into three parts – Swae Lee’s Swaecation, Slim Jxmmi’s Jxmtroduction, and the brothers’ joint project.

Billboard caught up with Rae Sremmurd to talk about the forthcoming collection. One half of the duo is confident that the new songs represent their highest level of artistry.

“It’s the best music we’ve ever made. Of course we’ve still got SremmLife 1 and 2 flavor, but we’re giving y’all sh-t y’all never heard from Rae Sremmurd before,” stated Swae Lee. “It’s just gonna be a surprise – every song you hear you’re gonna be like, “Damn, what the f-ck?”

Mike Will Made It and EarDrummers tackled a lot of the production on SremmLife 3. Previously, Mike Will revealed the 3-disc idea was inspired by the 2003 OutKast double LP Speakerboxxx/The Love Below.

Jxmmi stated about the triple-set concept, “We wanted to give y’all something different because it’s one side saying, ‘Man, this person should go solo,’ so why don’t we just end the argument and give it to you, and then give you Rae Sremmurd so you can see why we are Rae Sremmurd and who we are as individuals.”

Last week, Rae Sremmurd dropped three songs from SremmLife 3 – “Hurt To Look” by Swae Lee, “Brxnks Truck” by Slim Jxmmi, and “Powerglide” by both artists. The native Mississippians also announced they are heading on tour with Childish Gambino later this year.

(AllHipHop News) In recent years, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson has dived deeply into the film world. The Queens representative starred in the 2018 heist flick Den of Thieves and is set to appear in Escape Plan 2: Hades.

Tory Lanez is also supposedly working on a movie with 50 Cent. The singer/rapper spoke with Beats 1’s Ebro about I Told You Memories Don’t Die which is said to be based on the stories from Tory’s two studio albums I Told You and Memories Don’t Die.

“It’s not gonna have any music videos in it,” explained Lanez. “Everyone’s doing these random ‘short films’ for their albums all of a sudden which I kind of feel like a lot of people are biting from me.”

He added, “This is a full-on 45 to 50-minute short film. That area is where we’re aiming for. I’m doing a real feature film, not a rap video or a musical.”

Tory Lanez and 50 Cent connected for the “Pieces” track off Memories Don’t Die. The LP also features Future, Nav, Fabolous, Wiz Khalifa, and more.

Waka Flocka Bans Lil Xan From Hip Hop Over Comments About 2Pac

(AllHipHop News) It’s been a rough week in the media for Lil Xan. The rapper born Diego Leanos had a somewhat challenging interview with Hot 97, and now the 21-year-old is catching heat for comments he made last month about Tupac Shakur.

During an interview with Revolt, the California native ranked 2Pac at 2/9 and called the icon’s music “boring.” That opinion led to Atlanta rhymer Waka Flocka Flame kicking Xan out of the culture.

“LiL Xan banned from hip hop,” tweeted Waka. “Pac help me get thru childhood!!! Sh-t hurt to see the youth disrespect man that paved the way for all of us literally… I hope nobody overlook [my] accomplishments when I leave.”

This controversy comes after Xan announced he would no longer being doing interviews. He posted on Twitter, “I love my fans to death but I can’t let these companies keep taking advantage of me and using me to further there [sic] sh-t, it’s f-cked.”
