Jamie Foxx, Phylicia Rashad & Questlove Star In Disney’s Jazz-Infused ‘Soul’ [TRAILER]

(AllHipHop News) The list of Disney/Pixar movies reads like a rollcall of the most celebrated family films of the last three decades. Titles such as Toy Story, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, WALL-E, and Coco have entertained audiences of all ages.

Next year moviegoers will be introduced to jazz-loving middle school band teacher Joe Gardner (Jamie Foxx) in Disney/Pixar’s Soul. The computer-animated motion picture was directed by two-time Oscar-winner Pete Docter (Up, Inside Out) and co-directed by Kemp Powers.

“I think Joe is having that crisis that all artists have,” explains Powers. “He’s increasingly feeling like his lifelong dream of being a jazz musician is not going to pan out and he’s asking himself, ‘Why am I here? What am I meant to be doing?’ Joe personifies those questions.”

Acclaimed musician Jon Batiste is writing original music for the film. Academy Award winners Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (The Social Network) are creating an original score. Set in one of the jazz capitals of the world, Soul will incorporate elements of New York City into its visual and musical aesthetic. 

“I was born and raised in New York,” says Powers. “This is the first time Pixar has gone to my hometown and I’ve been so impressed by the amount of energy that goes into making sure that everything is right. When the character’s in Queens, it looks like he’s in Queens. When he’s in Manhattan, it looks like he’s in Manhattan. It’s pretty incredible.”

He adds, “The contrast that Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross bring is really exciting. It’s an unexpected choice for Pixar—this is like nothing we’ve ever done before.” Minnesota-bred Pete Docter also discussed how his upbringing inspired Soul. Plus, he praised Batiste’s contribution to the movie.

“I grew up with Peanuts cartoons and the Vince Guaraldi music,” states Docter. “I feel like it’s coursing through my veins and this is our version of that. Jon Batiste is a fantastic musician—he’s a historian yet is able to push the music forward, bringing all these different influences to the work. I sincerely hope that the jazz music in Soul will inspire a whole new generation.”

Soul also features the voices of Phylicia Rashad, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson Tina Fey, and Daveed Diggs. The movie is scheduled for release on June 19, 2020, via Pixar Animation Studios for Walt Disney Pictures.

Eric Andre To Host ‘Rapper Warrior Ninja’ Series On Quibi

(AllHipHop News) Yet another digital platform is set to present Hip Hop related content. Quibi, the forthcoming mobile-first media company, announced it will air Rapper Warrior Ninja.

Comedian/musician Eric Andre (Disenchantment, The Lion King) will host the series. Andre and Kitao Sakurai are credited as co-creators and executive producers with Sick Duck listed as a producer.

Rapper Warrior Ninja is based on a segment from Adult Swim’s The Eric Andre Show. The Quibi version will be presented in installments that will be under 15 minutes in length.

A description for the program reads:

From the mind of Eric Andre comes the biggest rap battle to ever hit the Hip Hop world — and it all goes down on an obstacle course. Who has what it takes to freestyle while traversing a treacherous gauntlet of tortuous obstacles? What top Hip Hop artist will emerge the victor in the arena? Find out in RAPPER WARRIOR NINJA! 

Andre and director Sakurai also worked together on the comedic film Bad Trip, (starring Lil Rel Howery and Tiffany Haddish) which is due out on April 24, 2020. In addition, attendees at the 2019 Adult Swim Festival will have the chance to see The Eric Andre Show Live! at the Los Angeles event.

Casanova Talks Feeling “Hopeless” After NYPD Barred Him From Rolling Loud Festival

(AllHipHop News) Last month, news broke that the New York Police Department requested Rolling Loud organizers remove select rappers from the festival’s lineup over “public safety concerns.” As a result, Pop Smoke, Don Q, Sheff G, 22gz, and Casanova were blocked from performing.

Hollywood Unlocked sat down with Casanova to get his side of the story. The Brooklynite revealed his reaction to not being able to hit the stage in his hometown for Rolling Loud New York. 

“It’s backward. If I come, I might be able to be like, ‘Nah, y’all not doing that right now. Both of y’all.’ Or whoever a situation might occur with,” said Casanova about possible adversaries being at the event. “I looked at the lineup – not to be a b*tch about it – I was like, ‘This motherf*cker got locked up on this day, this motherf*cker got a case. Why me? In my city?'”

He added, “I ain’t gonna lie. When that happened to me, that’s the first time I felt a little hopeless in a long time. Like, ‘Dang, ain’t nobody helping me. Ain’t nobody saying nothing. I’m with Roc Nation. Where y’all at? I need some help right now.’ But you don’t wanna say it.”

The Behind These Scars album creator continued, “It just started coming in. The top dogs just started hitting me up: You alright? We don’t like what’s going on. Top dogs were like, ‘You’re gonna perform at Barclays, so just be ready’… I felt good. That made me feel a part of Roc Nation.”

Previously, Casanova was reportedly banned from Brooklyn’s Barclays Center over his highly publicized, violent feud with Tekashi 6ix9ine. The two New Yorkers later settled their beef. However, 6ix9ine cited Cas and other rap stars as Blood gang members in open court during the 2019 federal trial for Anthony “Harv” Ellison and Aljermiah “Nuke” Mack.

(AllHipHop News) Tip “T.I.” Harris has faced significant backlash this week over his parenting decisions. The Grand Hustle leader admitted that he attends his daughter’s gynecologist visits to ensure that the 18-year-old girl is still a virgin.

T.I. is clearly very concerned about his child’s sexual practices and her potentially getting pregnant. While it is not an immediate family issue, some people may wonder how he would react to finding out that a woman on his label is carrying an unexpected child.

“I think I announced it in July on Instagram, but I told him a few months before that. But I didn’t really want to tell him,” said Grand Hustle rapstress Tokyo Jetz in an interview with DJ Smallz.

She continued, “When I did decide to tell him, he was like, ‘Somebody already told me. I was just waiting on you to tell me.’ He was basically like, ‘I’m with you, regardless, whatever you wanna do. And we’re gonna make it work.”

Tinashe Signs Management Deal With Jay-Z’s Roc Nation

(AllHipHop News) Tinashe parted ways from RCA Records earlier this year. Even though the singer-songwriter is still currently an independent artist, she has partnered with another music industry powerhouse.

Billboard reports that Tinashe signed a management deal with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation. Since joining the Roc, Tinashe released the singles “Die A Little Bit” with Ms. Banks and “Touch & Go” with 6lack.

The Roc Nation management roster also includes acts such as Big Sean, DJ Khaled, Fabolous, Jim Jones, Lil Uzi Vert, Mariah Carey, Meek Mill, Miguel, Rihanna, and Yo Gotti. Hip Hop newcomer Megan Thee Stallion recently announced she was being managed by RN as well.

While under the RCA umbrella, Tinashe released the projects Aquarius, Nightride, and Joyride. Her upcoming Songs For You EP is expected to be released independently via Tinashe Music Inc.

Young Dolph Pulled Over After Allegedly Tossing Green Substance From His Lambo

(AllHipHop News) According to reports, Young Dolph was cited by Georgia cops for littering and driving with an expired tag. The rapper, born Adolph Thornton Jr., may have escaped a trip to jail.

A TMZ article recounts how cops in Fairburn apparently caught Dolph behind the wheel of a Lamborghini Urus with an expired paper license plate. After police turned on their lights, the Nashville native allegedly kept driving before tossing a “green, leafy substance” out of the driver’s side window.

Law enforcement eventually searched Dolph’s vehicle. They did not find any drugs, weapons, or illegal contraband. It was never determined if the “Major” rhymer threw marijuana out of his SUV because the material was too scattered on the road.

In September, Young Dolph was handcuffed in Atlanta after police claimed they smelled marijuana in his car during a traffic stop. No weed was found, and the 34-year-old walked away with a warning for not wearing a seatbelt.

(AllHipHop News) What would you do if someone was constantly trolling you on social media? One music superstar decided to actually address two men that were bashing her online in person.

Apparently, fans of Nicki Minaj were upset that Cardi B supposedly shaded her longtime rival by suggesting she chose not to work with Karol G on “Tusa.” Nicki appears on the new song with the Colombian singer.

“Caused I passed on it… now sip on that,” wrote Cardi in a now-deleted tweet.”  One user warned the Bronx rapper not to get beat up. Cardi responded, “By who? Cause I’m [on] 46 and 8th ave in NY in case somebody want to see me.”

Someone then posted a video at that location claiming Cardi was not there. The “Bodak Yellow” hitmaker literally pulled up in a vehicle where two men were filming on the New York City block.

“It’s like, you troll, I troll,” one of the guys told Cardi after she confronted them. She replied, “I’m not about trolling. I pull the f*ck up.” 

Cardi also posted a video (now deleted) of the troll saying “love you.” While the 27-year-old Grammy winner took down most of the tweets and vids about the situation, she did leave one final statement on her Twitter page.

“Stop trying and pick and pick and pick cause I ain’t going keep letting people play with me. I been chillin let me chill in peace,” tweeted Cardi around 11:40 pm.

 

Planned Parenthood Gives Rapper T.I. Sex Education Lesson

(AllHipHop News) T.I. has been slammed by bosses at Planned Parenthood for taking his daughter to a gynecologist to check her hymen, and to confirm if her virginity, is still intact.

Speaking on the “Ladies Like Us” podcast the musician, real name Clifford Harris, tried to explain how important it is to him that his daughter Deyjah Harris waits for the right time before having sex.

And, he said he takes her for yearly trips to the gynecologist.

Deyjah, who is now at college, liked tweets branding her father “possessive” and now chiefs at the U.S. reproductive health charity have waded into the dispute by giving T.I. a biology lesson about the hymen and the nature of virginity.

“Idk (I don’t know) who needs to hear this but virginity is a made-up social construct, and it has absolutely nothing to do with your hymen,” the first in a series of tweets from their account reads.

“A virgin is someone who’s never had sex. But ‘sex’ means different things to different people, so ‘virginity’ does too. Many don’t care what it means or think it matters. Whatever you believe, the fact is you can’t tell if someone’s had sex by checking their hymen,” they continue.

“The hymen is a thin, fleshy tissue that’s located at the opening of your v#####. Like other parts of our bodies, hymens are a little different for everyone.”

Experts at the non-profit went on to explain that hymens are penetrable by sanitary products, in case girls are worried about using one.

T.I. originally said on the podcast: “Deyjah’s 18, just graduated high school now, and she’s attending her first year of college, figuring it out for herself. And yes, not only have we had the conversation (about sex), we have yearly trips to the gynecologist to check her hymen.”

(AllHipHop News) Actresses G.G. Townson and Laila Odom have been tapped to star as rap veterans Salt-N-Pepa in an upcoming TV biopic.

“Everybody Hates Chris” actress Townson will portray Cheryl ‘Salt’ James, while “The Young and the Restless'” Odom will play Sandra ‘Pepa’ Denton in the limited series, reports Variety.

Also, cast in the Lifetime network project are Monique Paul as the group’s third member, DJ Spinderella. Jermel Howard will star as Denton’s rapper ex-husband Treach, from Naughty by Nature, and Cleveland Berto as music producer Hurby Azor, who discovered the trio.

The as-yet-untitled show will chronicle the stars’ rise in the hip-hop industry in the late 1980s as they established themselves as one of the first all-female rap groups, while also going behind the scenes to examine the ups and downs of the musicians’ relationship.

The project will be directed by Mario Van Peebles and is set to feature some of Salt-N-Pepa’s biggest hits, such as “Shoop,” “Whatta Man,” “Let’s Talk About Sex,” and the Grammy-nominated “Push It,” when it airs next year.

Salt-N-Pepa will serve as executive producers on the series, alongside Queen Latifah.

The reality TV star was offered the extortionate amount to post a snap of herself on Instagram wearing garments from the outlet, which she did not name, but turned down the money “out of respect” for her husband.

“So there was a fast-fashion brand, a few of them, and they would knock off Yeezy all the time, his color palette, designs. So this fast-fashion brand offered me a million dollars for an Instagram post,” Kim said at The New York Times’ DealBook Conference in New York. “And I thought, ‘Okay, well that’s easy’ — just to wear clothes that I could pick, anything that I wanted, it’s a quick post — and when I told him about it he asked me not to do it and said out of respect, I don’t think that we should be giving them everything, they copy everything.

“I completely understood why he said no. I gladly said no,” she added.

However, when it came to Mother’s Day, the rapper and fashion mogul gave his wife a check for $1 million, alongside a note which read, “Thank you for not posting for the other brand,” and a contract to be an owner in Yeezy.

She joked: “So there is power in saying no sometimes.”

Kim also called the 42-year-old, “my ghost stylist and my ghost creative director,” for helping her dramatically evolve her personal style since they met in 2012.

Scarface Forces Run-Off In Bid For Houston City Council

Back in June, Scarface revealed he was going to run so he could represent District D.

Earlier this week, residents voted for candidates running to fill one of 15 spots.

Scarface, real name Bradley Jordan, ran against Carolyn Evans-Shabazz and Carla Brailey.

Carolyn Evans-Shabazz is currently the front runner, but Scarface and Brailey managed to snag 12% of the votes.

Voters in Houston will head to the polls in December to make the final decision.

Podcast Hosts Apologize For Letting T.I. Talk About His Daughter’s Sex Life

(AllHipHop News) Rapper T.I. is still being roasted over some controversial comments he made about his daughter’s health.

The Atlanta rapper was a guest on the “Ladies Like Us” podcast when he revealed he goes to great lengths to make sure his daughter Deyjah Harris is a virgin.

During his sit down, T.I. said he takes Deyjah to her “yearly trips to the gynecologist to check her hymen,” just to be sure she isn’t having sex.

T.I.’s social media accounts have been overrun with angry comments labeling him everything from “weird” to “sexist.”

The criticism has become so great, that the hosts of the “Ladies Like Us” broadcast have decided to delete the episode altogether.

Nazanin Mandi and Nadia Moham issued a statement after they were blasted for joking with T.I. in a conversation many have labeled as inappropriate.

Yung Al Says He’s The Face Of The Ghetto

Houston is home to many legends, from Scarface to Trae Tha Truth to Travis Scott to now Megan Thee Stallion.

From the Southside of the city also hails Yung Al, putting on for the ghetto the only way he knows how.

Yung Al: Nah I stay outside the hood, I go to the hood every day though. I moved.

AllHipHop: What is it like seeing Meg kill it out of H-Town?

Yung Al: It’s pretty interesting. Because before I got shot in August, I was one of the mains. It was me, a guy named Fast Lane, then it was Meg. That’s the order it was. Then I got shot. This happened last year. You know, Megan blew up like this [snaps]. Meg was already working, she was climbing to the top. She blew up.

AllHipHop: What’s your relationship like with her?

(AllHipHop News) Jennifer Lopez cried tears of joy when she was officially invited to co-headline the 2020 Super Bowl Halftime Show because it was a lifelong dream come true, according to her fiance Alex Rodriguez.

The “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” hitmaker will share the stage with Shakira for the half-time spectacular in Miami, Florida on February 2.

Alex admits J.Lo was very emotional because she had previously missed out on the show earlier on in her career.

Chanel West Coast Calls Out Sharon Stone Over Lawsuit

(AllHipHop News) Rapper Chanel West Coast has responded after Sharon Stone sued her over her 2018 track “Sharon Stoned.”

According to a lawsuit obtained by AllHipHop, the “Casino” actress alleged the rapper is trying to capitalize on her “extraordinary level of popularity and fame” by repeatedly mentioning her name in the lyrics.

Her complaint alleged Chanel, real name Chelsea Dudley, says the rapper “gratuitously repeats the name ‘Sharon Stone’ thirty-three times and the name ‘Sharon’ ninety-nine times,” during its lyrics.

Following news of the lawsuit, Chanel released a statement admitting she was “surprised and disappointed” that Stone had decided to take legal action.

“Sharon pulled out of participating in the music video the day of the shoot after months of conversations, in-person meetings with myself and the director, two dance rehearsals and even had her own ideas that she shared with myself and my team for the collaborative on the video,” she said.

“To be frank, the entire production team and myself were surprised when she walked off. Nonetheless, the shoot proceeded. I am an artist who was expressing myself through music by making a song and video about someone whom I greatly admire,” Chanel West Coast continued. “I only had the best intentions to create something visually amazing that highlights Sharon Stone as well as myself and for that I have done nothing wrong.”

Sharon Stone is seeking an injunction preventing Dudley, who first found fame in the MTV reality series Rob Dyrdek’s “Fantasy Factory,” from using her name or image and is demanding punitive damages and any profits the rapper earned as a result of the song and video. 

Actresses Bash T.I. For Making Sure His Daughter Is A Virgin

(AllHipHop News) Madeline Brewer and Padma Lakshmi have slammed rapper T.I. following his revelation that he takes his daughter to the gynecologist annually to “check her hymen” to ensure she’s still a virgin.

The musician, real name Clifford Harris, made the controversial comments on the “Ladies Like Us” podcast.

During the interview, T.I. explained how important it is to him that his daughter Deyjah Harris waits for the right time before having sex.

T.I. continued in the podcast interview to detail the gynecologist appointments, adding that the doctors have told him previously that it’s not just intercourse that can lead to a hymen breaking.

“So then they come and say, ‘Well, I just want you to know that there are other ways besides sex that the hymen can be broken, like bike riding, athletics, horseback riding, and just other forms of athletic physical activity’,” he said. “So I say, ‘Look, Doc, she don’t ride no horses, she don’t ride no bike, she don’t play no sports. Just check the hymen please and give me back my results expeditiously.’”

The “Live Your Life” hitmaker continued to try and dissuade any potential suitors from pursuing his daughter, laughing: “Who wants a virgin? Like, really? All that work.” 

Drake’s More Growth Company Partners With Canada’s Billion-Dollar Cannabis Company

(AllHipHop News) Earlier this week, it was revealed that Drake was launching a new cannabis business.

The rapper teased a video for the More Life Growth Company on his Instagram but revealed little information.

But more information has been revealed about the venture, thanks to a More Life Growth Company’s new partnership with Canopy Growth.

More Life Growth Company is a fully licensed producer of cannabis-based in Drake’s hometown of Toronto, Canada.

According to Drake, the new cannabis venture will be based around wellness, discovery and “overall personal growth with the hope of facilitating connections and shared experiences across the globe.”

“The opportunity to partner with a world-class company like Canopy Growth on a global scale is really exciting,” Drake said. “The idea of being able to build something special in an industry that is ever-growing has been inspiring. More Life and More Blessing.”

Drake owns 60% of the More Life Growth Company, while Canopy will retain 40% of the venture.

The company is already licensed by Health Canada to cultivate the “cultivation, processing and sale of cannabis” at a huge facility in Scarborough, Ontario dubbed the More Life Facility.

When we first began talks with Drake we were extremely inspired by and aligned with his vision to bring best-in-class cannabis products to the world,” said Mark Zekulin, CEO, Canopy Growth Corporation. “Drake’s perspective as a culture leader and entrepreneur combined with Canopy Growth’s breadth of cannabis knowledge will allow our new company to bring an unmatched cannabis experience to global markets.”

Canopy Growth will run the day-to-day operations of the More Life Facility, as well as the rights to distribute the product that is cultivated.

Drake has also sublicensed the rights to license More Life Growth brands the company has developed to Canopy Growth, in return for a revenue share.

Canopy Growth is a publicly-traded company worth over $14 billion, but the company is dealing with sluggish sales in Canada.

 The rapper says this is his right as a parent and also in the best interest of his child. Now, his daughter is a recent high school graduate and 18-years old. 

Anyway, T.I.’s daughter has not said a lot, but she did do something. She “liked” a few comments that disparaged or disagreed with her daddy checking up on her privates like that. 

So, she is definitely sending a message here, but she is also wants her inheritance money as well! LMAO!!

I have seen a number of people talking about this and there are views and opinions on both sides of the matter. I think there’s something to be said from those who agree and those that disagree.

2 Chainz & Rapsody Added To Adult Swim Festival Lineup In LA

(AllHipHop News) The second annual Adult Swim Festival is scheduled for November 15 and 16. In addition to previously announced acts such as Vince Staples and Tierra Whack, organizers tapped 2 Chainz and Rapsody for the event.

Rapsody released her critically acclaimed third studio LP Eve in August. 2 Chainz drafted NBA great LeBron James to executive produce his 2019 album titled Rap or Go to the League.

Attendees at the Adult Swim Festival will experience sets by some of the most skillful acts in the business. They will also have access to other activities like the “Exclusive Rick and Morty S4 Screening” and the “Robot Chicken Intergalactic Power Summit.”

There will also be a live edition of The Eric Andre Show. The always unpredictable program, hosted by comedian Eric Andre, will likely create some memorable moments at the Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles.
